Re: Can a laptop / data be recovered with only serial number (BTC DATA)
by

If you happen to have the MAC address of the Wi-Fi card within the MacBook (any old router/firewall logs lying around? possibly a picture of the MAC on the unit's label?) .. there would at least be a chance. .. however slim that might be.

If it was logged by a wardriver using kismet, the client MAC *could* have ended up being logged into WiGLE's database. This would be a really really long shot, but it would be worth a look.
If you think it might still be in the general area, you could grab an ALFA and go wardriving yourself. (This is almost assured to be a complete waste of time).

.. but, even if you did manage to recover it, you would still be banking on the following
*the original hard drive remained (and is in working order)
*the thief didn't inadvertently discover your stash of internet monies
*the wallet was not overwritten or otherwise unrecoverable

Re: Which USB hub to use with Block Erupters or K1? A List.

The Tek Republic hub would appear to be an Action Star UH-217C-US. The power adapter shown in the Amazon photos is the same included with mine (Sunny branded, 5V 2.6A).

Personally, I am mining with my 6 BEs + fan on an ancient (~14 years old) Newer Technology 7-port USB 1.0 hub w/ some random 5V 4A power adapter.

I have tested a unit with the adapter listed in the original post. iperf ran both ways across the wireless (with only WAN connected) without issue. Transmit power was also bumped up to 70mW.

Not sure if there would be any interest in these, but I have some I need to unload.

Specifications can be found here.

The devices will run DD-WRT, OpenWrt, and Tomato (+variants).. but the units have currently been flashed to TomatoUSB build 54 (k2.4, NoUSB Std).

No power supply is included and the label specifies usage of a 3.3V 2A unit. I have been flashing the units with a 3.3V 1.5A unit (5 bucks on eBay) but I can't guarantee it will function properly under load with those specs. Do not overvolt these units.

US shipping is included in with the price. International shipping will be calculated based on the actual cost.

PM if interested and leave a message here if you like

Re: 23andMe DNA Test Kit - Free + 2 BTC shipping
by

on 30/11/2011, 16:53:28 UTC
Are the kits that you're selling "gift kits"? This webpage says that they cannot be used more than 12 months after the purchase date. Would love to get one, if you can somehow show that the kits can still be used.

While the prepaid kits are indeed 'Gift' kits, I believe that applies to all kits 12 months past the purchase date. Some communication from 23andMe has led me to believe the kits may still be processed, but I can't guarantee anything. I suggest only parting with the 2 BTC if you're fine with that..

[CLOSED] 23andMe DNA Test Kit - Free + 2 BTC shipping
by
m86
on 29/11/2011, 22:53:57 UTC
As the title says, I am giving away a few 23andMe kits. These kits may (see below) allow an individual of your choice to get genotyped on 23andMe's custom Illumina microarray (~990,000 SNPs), receive 23andMe's annotated data, and allow you to download your raw data (example files). These kits are also prepaid for 1 year.

These kits, if not expired now, will probably expire very soon. It has been over a year since their purchase date.

It's not really kosher to sell the kits (or rather is against their ToS), so the only charge will be the 2 BTC for shipping via Priority Mail. Limit one per person.

For more information, see 23andMe's website (sign up for a demo account). For relevant third party tools and related blogs, see 23andYou.

edit: all kits are gone

Re: 802.11b/g USB Wireless Adapter - 2 BTC each shipped worldwide

The adapters in question are Sagem-branded Z-Com XG-703A adapters. They are sealed in anti-static bags and presumed to be new.

These adapters have an Intersil Cohiba chipset (ISL3887 + ISL3686). Linux support is well established with p54 (which will support Station, Ad-hoc, AP, Mesh, and Monitor [with injection] modes). The devices will also work with 32/64-bit Windows XP, Vista, and 7. Windows drivers are available here.

The price, again, is 2 BTC shipped worldwide. This is stupid cheap.

What is "presumed" to be new and how can you even make profit on this after shipping worldwide...  i don't mean to say your a scammer at all, the post just strikes me as odd...

They are presumed to be new in that they probably have not seen usage from anyone aside from the manufacturer.. but these are from a Chinese vendor which I assume packaged them individually in small anti-static bags.

I am not making a profit on these things. I am just aiming to get rid of them.

There are 24 of the devices remaining. I don't really feel like taking pictures.

Dedicated scammers or trolls will still be able to spam out the required 25 posts. Newbies with something of interest to say will mainly be frustrated and may abandon the forums altogether. I don't see this as being a smart move.

Wait, are you saying this pretty little thing can accept an external antenna?

Yes, they have antenna connectors. They're MMCX so they're pretty small. Most Ubiquiti stuff has MMCX connectors.

It certainly appears so according to the datasheet. I want one. Where are they coming from (zip) and how do you ship? Got any references/reputation to share?

The item will ship from 21009 via First Class Mail with delivery confirmation.

My heatware is m86.
I am listed on the 'honest traders' list, FWIW.
I am also 'wombat-machine' on eBay if you put any stock in that.

Ubiquiti SR71-USB abgn Wireless Adapter - 23 USD -> BTC shipped worldwide
by

Ubiquiti Networks SR71-USB abgn USB Wireless Adapter
http://www.wikidevi.com/files/images/sr71-usb.jpg
Chipset: Atheros AR9001U-2NX (AR9170 + AR9104)
Antenna connectors: 2x MMCX

Datasheet
Windows driver

This is just the dongle. No antennas, accessories, or CDs are included. You will need an antenna if you want to use the device.

The devices are supported in Linux by carl9170, written by the most highly esteemed Christian Lamparter. The driver makes use of the highly irregular attribute of an open firmware (Atheros GPLed the firmware back in 2009). carl9170 supports station (a/b/g/[draft-]-n), ad-hoc, AP, and monitor (w/ injection) modes.

The devices will work with AirMagnet in Windows.

The total price shipped is the equivalent of 23 USD converted to BTC as the highest current MtGox bid. Multiple adapters will be cheaper as shipping can be combined.

If you are interested in MMCX (m) -> RP-SMA (f) pigtails, I have a limited quantity and can include them at the price of 10 USD for each. If there is significant demand (LOL!), I can look into acquiring more (and perhaps other types).

The price is set to at the equivalent of 10 USD in BTC (set at the highest MtGox ask price). If you are interested in multiple adapters, the total price will be reduced. Please send me a PM if you have any interest (though I certainly expect none).

It appears to be a Ralink RT2870+RT2820 dongle (or at least that's what my intelligence says), so it should work in Linux. Ralink's drivers are probably a bit better off (minus master mode).. but rt2800usb will also work.

What's the FCC ID of the thing (should be on the back on the label)? What is the output of lsusb?

Ok, this has been revised into a two part bounty.

The reward for inclusion into wireless-testing is a bit larger as I would really like to see it (finally) get integrated into the kernel.

If you are interested as in 'send me the hardware' interested, send me a PM.

[bounty] add radiotap headers to orinoco - 50 BTC
by
m86
on 03/05/2011, 00:22:14 UTC
I would be incredibly surprised if this went anywhere, but hey.

The task is fairly simple. Create a patch that adds Radiotap headers by default to the Linux orinoco driver's monitor mode and get it integrated into the mainline kernel driver. The signal and noise levels should be adjusted to provide accurate levels in dBm for ORiNOCO-based devices.

The bounty consists of two parts:
-16.5 BTC for the completion of a patch which will enable Radiotap headers in monitor mode for the orinoco driver.
-33.5 BTC for the integration of above (or later revision) patch for the orinoco driver into the wireless-testing branch (after submitting it to linux-wireless and orinoco-devel for review)

Interested but have no hardware? I will send you a USB ORiNOCO device free of charge if you state your interest in this thread. You will need a USB (B-Type) cable for it, however.

Uninterested because this hardware is ancient and no one uses it anymore? I am unsurprised.
