Re: Block Erupter USB Sales [New Sales Policy with New Price]

DIY chips and USB miners are for VASTLY different markets.  I showed my wife and non tech friends how I setup the USB miner... I doubt I myself could figure out how to solder on the chips to some board without burning my house down.  You keep those diy chips, I have a little led light that blinks and keeps me up at night, and I love it!
fine. then i hope that people that buy these usb know these are truely for novelty purposes. while i spew out reasons why one should not purchase these usb you and the people that think like what you have quoted better stress to people these sticks are ONLY for novelty purposes.

There are people that have stated they want to purchase 50 of these. i hope you know with 50btc you can buy ALOT of hashing power than what these usb can offer.

All Men may be created Equal, but not all Men are equally capable. I scratch my head wondering just what i would do with a bunch of asic chips. Do they need Salsa? or at least a microcontroller to run them?
is that a rhetorical question? there is a diy community. do people read word for word of everything i write?

i have quoted there is a diy community.

Even without quoting me people should already realise there is a diy community that will assist people with issues... or someone can just correct me wrong on that point...

Hell, i have never programmed a microcontroller but i'm betting $600 worth of diy chips that this diy community will come through so money where my mouth is...

from my previews post https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=217104.msg2569407#msg2569407 dated on the 24th i pointed out how fast time goes and only less than a week from my post burnin has already posted pictures of asic diy chips soldered on to pcb.

people NEED to stop giving bad advice. buying diy asic chips is ALOT better than buying these usb stick.

if only more people pointed and out stressed out gpu mining is a money pit i probably and hopfully would have listen.

if you really want to maximize your profitability ONLY buy diy chips.

You can get your usb stick now but when those diy chips come out the diff will skyrocket to god knows how much.

If you want to cost average then buy diy chips!

by buying these usb you are betting on diy chips NOT being delivered.

i hope people have done their homework regarding hash/$

people need to calculate total hash you will get from these usb and the price you will paid.

now calculate the total hash for those diy asic chips if you had purchased them.

the issue is hash rate and difficulty, nothing to do with the price. as you can see if 1 diy asic person could get away with that much power what chances are that your usb stick can do anything?

i got into mining during the mania around march and time went by so quickly yesterday seems like my first day mining. yesterdays profit calculation means nothing today.

this is not a few months ago or last year where there was just speculation on asic. i dare anyone to look back on history posts to see what people wrote.

there are now concrete results from bbk and burnin. sample chips have been delivered. there is a diy community so nothing is impossible.

in a few months, which i consider a very short time, diy asic will be delivered in full force.

i predict those with usb stick are going to start smashing their heads against the wall because of what potential hashing power could of had.

7950 do have good hash to watt ratio... but you got to lower your hash rate.

best i could do is 5 * 580khash for just over 1000watts

soon as i go over 600 khash it can EASILY go over 250watts each card.

your power consumption is about right but if you really want to save on power you have to shave off the hash rates.

if only btc diff was lower because i was doing 5 * 550 mhash for 840 watts!!!

sucks to pay 27c/kw

Re: Help getting afterburner to control 5th video card

uninstall afterburner, uninstall ati drivers, uninstall opencl, use ati cleaner

install another set of ati drivers, install opencl, install after burner

had the grey out happen to me few hours ago as i was trying to glitch afterburner to let me set my video cards to 300 memclock.

like what others have said so i won't take credit for their leg work but last night i manged to get 5 7950 working on a socket 775 mobo, 4gb of ram. windows 2008 server r2 (same as windows 7) working with ati 12.6 drivers. 13.1 will not work!

i had ati 13.1 and had issues detecting 5 or more gpus and decided to install 12.6 and it worked.

my socket 775 mobo has 2 pci-e 16x and 3 pci-e 1x. you need to either short or use dummy plugs on the 2nd pci-e 16x slot.

i'm currently using dummy plugs mod on the 2nd cpi-e slot and have my 5 7950 are mining at 1volt, 1000core, 1600mem doing just over 600 hashs, but these cards can potentially do 670 each but had to undervolt them as i have got other miners running off the same power socket and i am hitting my power limit.

i would like to add that i am having this issue too so it is not just the OP...

I have spent over 24 hours smashing my head against the wall trying to figure out why my sapphire 7950 4L simply will not mine, can not connect to servers, produce HW errors.

turns out i require 2 gpu threads to mine. 1 gpu thread will not connect me on to any server! i've been searching this issue and there are some people with this issue.

do note that i have 5870 and 5970 mining at 400 hash per core  and soon as i put a 7950 on to that machine h/w are produced!

i am thinking maybe it is either the brand new 5 * sapphire 7950 4L cards that have this issue or it is the operating system. hoping to get windows 8 installed and see what results i get.

current using server 2008 r2 and just like the OP too auto thread-concurrency give me 8960

amd app sdk
by
ma_rine_sa
on 05/05/2013, 12:23:21 UTC
so there is the ati ccc drivers and the amd app sdk

i'm confused. why are people installing the amd app sdk?

unsure of linux installs but on windows once you decompress the ati ccc drivers there is opencl drivers there for you to install, that is how i have always done it and cgminer always works correctly.

question is why are people still recommending people to install amd app sdk, obviously i am missing out on something so i am here asking.

thanks.

is it just only me? but the first thing that comes to my mind when i see those capacitors is dodgy soldering?

to be honest it doesn't look like those capacitors were soldered correctly.

if a capacitor was soldered correctly it would require a good amount of energy to pull it off even with pliers!

for those that just want the bare pcb is it possible to have the chips delivered to you so the chips and the pcb board can be shipped together?

just putting it here for reference dual 5970 (4 cores total) on my computer pull 240*3.5=840watts ltc mining

if i am btc mining i underclock the memory to it's lowest and pull 240*3=720watts

1 week experience
by
ma_rine_sa
on 17/04/2013, 06:33:25 UTC
Wanted to share my 1 week experience and how i got myself into this hole.

Was watching bloomberg while surfing the web and suddenly something i never though the main stream media would mention was "BITCOIN".

I stopped whatever i was doing switched my attention to bloomberg to be told it had increased to $80USD.

I knew of bitcoin years ago but brushed it off so straight away i put my foot down and decided to research as much as i can about bitcoin.

Took about 2 days to digest what is was and what i needed and went to work mode.

I went to forums, ebay and classifieds to search for every 5870 or 5970 i could grab.

1 week later i have invested $1200~ and have obtained:

2 5970 hashing 800 each
3 water blocked 5870 hashing 400 each
2 corsair GS800

I may have to buy a new power supply as they are doing close to 800watts but using a fluke 179 meter i measure over 12v on the 12v line so don't really know what to think.

Using cgminer, copied the flags for them on the hardware comparison chart and read the README to tweak it and worked straight away.

The ONLY issue i ever had was trying to figure out why the ati drivers were not installing opengl for me, turns out i had to manually install them by exploring the decompressed ati drivers on C drive where there was a opengl driver.

What i noticed is the rise of gpu cards so if i want out i sell my cards and coins and could still come out on top.

To people in the buying 5870 over $150 and 5970 for $400 you really should just buy 7950, it works out better in the long run when you resell the gpu.
