Some very impressive setups here.  I started with a few sticks, a single 7 port hub and a RPi.  It grew and the mess on my desk was my cats favorite place.  I wanted something very portable.  This is a 12"X18" pegboard.  I need to do some clean up on the back side, too many cords!  All this runs on 164 watts.

I had 2 1K transfers, 1 from late Dec and 1 from mid Jan.  Emails back to me said they are in the works and well be processed very soon, I never received a thing, my piddly 4 btc balance does not show on the new balance page.  Got me for 2.2K and 4.45btc's.  Crooks, should be in prison.

I had intermittent problems using wifi with my Blades.  I bought a used switch and hard wired, instant 10.8ghs and runs for days and days with out problem.  Using Pi with bfgminer proxy.

That's great advise for anyone running more than 2 or 3 hubs.  The atx psu I modded could handle my load until I exceeded 40 usb erupters.  Most PC PSU's only have a 20-25 amp 5 volt bus, they are limited. I use a 5 volt 50 amp Mean Well industrial psu now.  The MW runs 64 sticks without generating a lot of heat and it's quiet, and they are cheap.

Those D-Link hubs may be your problem.  When I started it bought several D-Limks, was never happy with them.  Sold them and replaced them with Rosewill 500's, no more usb trouble.  I understand you can't get Rosewill in the UK, maybe ship from USA.

I have 8 Rosewill hubs, a BE 49 port hub and a few V2 Blades, all run happy on Pi.

2 Pi's running 53+ghs of miners.  About the only problem I have is the usb hubs power supplies tend to die under the 24/7 demand of mining.  They slowing loose there output amperage causing all kinds of problems, same goes for Blades and Cubes, you need adequate psu amperage for efficient mining.

I was fortunate to buy usb be's at $7 so I have made my roi, but now that I'm in the "profit" side the difficulty has made that a very slow process.

The Pi's weakness is it does not cope with usb will.  You need a 5v 1a psu for the Pi.  The Pi uses .500Ma for the cpu and .170Ma for each usb port.  What ever hub you use must have a psu that can supply a minimum of .500Ma to each hub port that is being used.

You should have a dedicated psu for the Pi, a dedicated psu for the hub.  Plug everything into the hub and then the hub to the Pi.  A wireless dongle can draw over .750Ma.  I never achieved good results using a wireless dongle and the Pi, much better speeds with cat5 cable.

I'm running 9 hubs with 100 erupters plus 2 Blades off the Pi and getting 53+Ghs, Minepeon under Arch & bfgminer.

I would think so.  You have several Blades running so you have the setup down, you've tried different cables and ports so I think that would rule out anything on the net side.  I would think it's related to this particular Blade, defective ethernet components?

Did you add "--http-port 8330" to the BFGminer startup setting in the settings page of minepeon?  Like this.


In the blade configure page (192.168.1.254:8000)  you have to point the Blade to the minpeon IP in the "server address" line on the config page.  You enter this twice, like "192.168.0.34,192.168.0.34"

The port  entry would be "8330,8330"

The port # you use here needs to be the port# you entered in the minepeon config line.

You need a passwd, like "Blade1:none,Blade1:none"  Each blade needs it's own passwd, I use blade1 blade 2 and so on.

Most retailers raise prices for the Christmas season so when they claim they are 50% off, they are really regular price.

I think most people miss the ever increasing difficulty factor.  I've paid as much as $20 and as little as $5 for block erupters.  I have 100 cranking away along with some Blades.  I've made my investment back but now that I'm in the profiet area the difficultly is so high I'm making 45% of what I was just six weeks ago.

I wonder what I could get for a 100 stick mine turn key?

The psu for the hub could be dieing.  I've had two or three slowly die and it generates all kinds of problems.  You must have .5 amp at each port.


The new hub had sufficient power for each stick?
Burn a new .img on a new sd card for the Pi, cards have a limited lifespan.

I gave up on the damn wall warts and the problems and heat they generate.  I hacked a psu to use the 5v rail to power most of my hubs, little more noise and lot less heat.

It seems to me the standard reply on can I make a profit with block erupters has been no since they became available.  I'm glad I didn't listen to any of the naysayers. 

You'll have no trouble with power.  I have a pair of Sapphire 7950's running now, I use CGM, undervolt, slight OC.  Fans at 70% gpu runs 70C and vrm's about 8C higher.  The Vaper-X cooling seems to be good for 3-5C vs other 7950's I have used.  I have a Thermaltake 850 psu, running a OC'd 8350 under water.

The wire on most pc psu's is 18 ga or less, some way less, like 22 ga..  I would use 14 ga or better for wiring a Blade.  I just got two Blades yesterday, this morning I'm off to buy 12 ga wire and more cables to setup a second router.

The Pi does not support usb 3.0 period.  Barely supports usb 2.0.  Read about it at the Pi foundation web site, been a topic of discussion since the first Pi came out.

I know a few have been able to get a 3.0 hub to work sorta, I wouldn't waste my time when 2.0 is plug and play and generally a less expensive hub.  I started with a few 7 port d-links but have all 10 port rosewill's now, they run 8 sticks without problems with the supplied psu (wall wart).  You can use a pc psu's 5v rail to power the hubs if you can diy the connections.  5 volt power supplies are cheap on evilbay, about 40 bucks for a 30 amp psu, add your own connectors.

I'm a noob, so what.  If I had listened to all these nay sayers about never getting roi I would not have started mining 3 months ago.  Fuck roi, I've made a profit and everything is paid for.  I've sold the btc's I have mined, paid for all equipment.  The equipment is worth as much if not more than I paid for it.  It's win win dixie.  As difficulty increases so does the value of btc's, it's a wash.
