Re: Hold your coins in multiple wallets
by

Most of my portfolio is on my Ledger, then I also have many other coins scattered around desktop wallets, small amounts at various exchanges (for coins I don't own enough to bother with securing on my own wallet) and some scattered around various staking websites.  I don't feel good about any of the coins I don't hold the key for, but I keep my risk to a minimal level by spreading it out.

Re: Do you think Bitcoin Cash will take place of Bitcoin?

No, or maybe a .009% chance.  It's use case doesn't exist right now as a P2P "cash".  I wouldn't be able to pay a single bill with it or buy anything with it where I live.  It's also associated with extremely shady individuals and companies.  Right now, it's just a pump and dump for Ver and Bitmain, nothing else, and they're probably running out of money to continue propping it up

NEO is one of my biggest holdings, really wish I would've sold earlier this year and locked in some profits! Oh well, tough coin to really know what's going on as it's based in China.  I have read some articles really tearing it down, but for now I still hold it and take my gas earnings to buy more NEO every couple of months.

Re: Best masternode coins to invest in?

I've gotten crushed in some masternode coins, all those crazy high ROI's sound amazing, and watching rewards flow into your wallet feels good, but nothing can survive that type of inflation.  I've learned to look for coins with a much smaller inflation % as one of many factors to consider.

Re: Can ETH break its highest record again

For ETH to get back to all-time highs, a couple things need to happen first.  First, it needs something actually useful with actual daily users to be built on the platform, however this would speed up the need for some kind of scaling solution.  Very tough task and the main reasons I keep a very small amount of Ethereum

Hardware wallets are a must, 2FA everything you can but not through SMS.  Use an authenticator.  Also don't save any private keys online

Wow, lots of love and confidence for XRP here.  I don't see it personally, but definitely wish I could invest in Ripple the company.  Too many risks and unknowns with XRP the token for me

Re: If your coin increased 40% - 200% in value over night. What would you do?

It depends on why you bought the particular coin in the first place and what your investment goals are.  If it's a coin that you believe in long-term, why not hold it and see where it goes?  I'd venture to guess most people probably end up losing/not earning as much by trying to play market cycles.

Ripple, or XRP does have a really passionate community following, which can go a long ways but there are some major red flags and confusion with that coin.  I'm not sure how anyone could have a significant bag of XRP and feel comfortable.

I hate KYC for anything crypto related other than a select few companies in the US that require it, like Coinbase.  Other than that, how can you trust that anyone won't misuse your personal data?

I completely agree with your comparison to the Internet.  I remember in the mid 90's trying to download a picture from the Playboy website, now I can stream porn on my mobile! I don't even remember what life was like before the Internet, hopefully someday we feel the same about crypto assets

Re: I think ethereum is the best crypto next to bitcoin.
by

Not sure I agree with all the confidence everyone seems to have in Ethereum, it has some major challenges in the future with scaling and from what I understand, it's very buggy and uses a difficult programming language.  Kind of telling that in three years of existence, nothing with significant daily users has been built on the platform...

Re: How safe is our money in crypto?

Learning how to properly store your cryptos should be the first thing you do before you buy a single one.  Unfortunately, most people don't and either screw it up when they try (get hacked or lose their coins) or blindly trust exchanges, which is really dangerous

Re: Ripple the next bitcoin?
by

XRP has a totally different use case than BTC, Ripple/XRP wants to help banks, BTC wants to replace banks.  I'd love to invest in Ripple the company but really don't understand why I'd want to own XRP.  Why would I want to own a coin that's just for inter bank transfers?

Until coins get some type of mainstream adoption, they will continue to just be driven by supply and demand. I have no idea what will trigger that, but it’s the next step

Re: I am most worried now
by

ETH investors should be worried, a lot of things need to fall into place for it to be successful long-term, mainly something needs to be built with an actual use case.  And if that happens, the network would get clogged up so then it would need to implement a scaling solution.

Re: Bitcoin vs Bitcoin Cash
by
makeitweird
on 13/09/2018, 19:21:52 UTC
I don't have any problem with forks of Bitcoin, it's a good way to experiment with ideas out of consensus.  I do have a problem with a fork that tries to bring Bitcoin down as BCash is attempting.  The price and lack of usage should prove that crypto isn't ready to be used as cash, so a scaling debate is a moot point.

Re: ETH is recovering?
by
makeitweird
on 13/09/2018, 19:14:44 UTC
At some point for ETH to fully recover, something useful needs to be built on it, there needs to be some progress on the scaling issues, prior ICO's will need to continue to hold the ETH raised and new ICO's will need to raise ETH, that's a lot to have happen.  And, they need to figure out their current inflation rate while making sure to not lose too many miners.  ETH is a really amazing tool and technical innovation, but not sure it's a good investment.

Any amount to start investing is fine, but if your plan is to "trade", then I'd spend my time learning how.  Unless you know what you're doing, you most likely will either lose money doing it or not capitalize if a bull market ever comes.

Re: My BIGGEST cryptocurrency mistake

Buying coins for future airdrops is one.  That and buying coin recommendations immediately that I hear on Twitter.  They're decent coins, but the person schilling on Twitter is just trying to pump the price and then dump on followers.  Being patient and waiting a few days would lead to much better entry points.
