The real question is : how can we regulate the bitcoin companies (brokerage, cloud mining ..) to protect investors from ponzi scheme?

Hello,

This is not the first time , this is not the last time ...

I think that regulation is an obligation to protect the investors.

Over 30 minutes for a single confirmation does not (and will not ever) work in the real world.
(Almost) Every time I start to believe that BTC is "going mainstream", I have a delay waiting for a 30+ minute block....  Shocked

BS, its called variance. I have always got confirmed within 10min, some even in secs ..... What does that tell you?

Look at the avg block time, you've been this ignorant b4. Sell your coins and fck off?

What intolerance ! it's not because someone is critical (maybe his critic is wrong) that he is against bitcoin and must f.....

solution:
if your paying for a coffee or a mars bar, dont wait. if your buying a house wait 30 minutes

between purchases under $ 10 and purchases over 100 000 $ there a lot of other product to buy, so you should wait or not ?  Tongue

Short Sale

Hello, Hello

I was thinking about speculating on a drop in bitcoin price :

Is it possible ?

If this is the case, how can someone short sale the bitcoin ?

Will The Winklevoss Twins' New Bitcoin ETF allow this ?

Excelente analysis.

Second, it is easier to win if your competitor lets you win. Build your opponent a golden bridge to retreat across. If a governement can take advantage of crypto (and I already explained it can), make it so that this is a mutually-profitable agreement. Hatred does not go far; negociation goes much farther. Hey, I'm French, I know what I am talking about, we have an A-grade in Stubborness and Stupidity (Africa, Indochina...) whereas the British were much smarter.
Governement wants money and control. Let him do it whilst allowing anyone on an individual basis to opt-out. If we create the tool, it will be possible. If we let the government create it, much less.

What concrete actions must be done in your opinion about this second point?

Maybe my suggestions and ideas are not good, but do you think that bitcoin is currently perfect and don't need to evolve ?

I don't understand your question.

The reference code is currently version 0.9.3.  Clearly bitcoin IS evolving.  It is different than it was last year, and it is even more different than it was the year before that.  New versions of the code continue to come out.

I'm talking about high level evolution : I feel no change as an end user when the code version evolves from 0.9.2 to 0.9.3

As for anything else (such as merchant adoption), you are the "bitcoin community".  If you are asking what the "bitcoin community" is doing about convincing more merchants to accept bitcoin, then you are asking what YOU are doing about convincing more merchants to accept bitcoin.  I can not answer that for you, because you have not yet told me what you are doing.  Why would you ask me what you are doing?

It is true that for the moment I do not do big things for the bitcoin apart speculating and mining. I also try to talk to my friends about Bitcoin : Some of them tell me that they can't afford to accept a currency that can make -25%  in one month, that is risky for their business and that they prefer to wait for the moment.  I do not know how to answer to this issue because I'd do the same if I were them.

Honestly, I suspect you are just trolling.  I really should know better than to feed the trolls around here.  It just attracts more of them.

I am very down to earth in my thoughts but I am sincere and I really hope that the bitcoin will succeed

The "bitcoin community" is not some monolithic Borg mind. Different people want different things. You seem to want State surveillance built in to your currency. I'm sure there's an altcoin that already does that for you. Bitcoin is not the only digital currency. So your real question is: "why don't more people want surveillance / regulation?"

Your other problem is that you arrogantly assert that your ideas (ie. surveillance) are better -- an evolution. That's quite insulting.

I didn't say it quite correctly : I respect and adhere to the principle of freedom offered by the bitcoin, allowing peer to peer transactions without any intermediate. Maybe my suggestions and ideas are not good, but do you think that bitcoin is currently perfect and don't need to evolve ?

I wonder why the bitcoin community does not evolve Bitcoin.

because altcoin try this ... and they ALL FAIL.

Evolution does not always lead to failure. There are certainly other reasons for the failure of altcoins.

The Bitcoin Community must list all the axis of improvements then work to achieve them.

  • Reducing volatility

The more people start using it the less volatile the price will become.

How can you be sure of that ?  Are there any argument to prove it?
Take the example of currencies like USD or Euro. There are 100 millions people who use them and yet there is need for a central bank to make the regulation.

  • Why is it still impossible for me to pay with bitcoin in 99,99% of supermarkets, restaurants, gas stations

Because not all merchants have adopted it yet. Just 2 years ago the idea that so many mainstream business would start accepting bitcoin was viewed by a lot of people as insane, so give it some time. There's still a long road ahead.

I agree with you. But why not be more proactive : What does the community do to make it easier for businesses to have a payment terminal for bitcoin for exemple.

  • Make concessions to meet certain laws

What laws?

Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Know Your Client (KYC) measures

Bitcoin is magnificent creation, but il must evolve and make concessions to reach a wider community.

Master One, I really appreciate your thinking and your attitude of detachment. It is rare to see people as objective in their strategical choices and not blinded by the greed.

I am looking too for a strategy to live from mining. For now, unfortunately I came to same conclusion as you.

However, here are some things I am trying to explore to improve the profitability of an investment in mining:
  • Go through a company to benefit from favorable prices for electricity (0.04 to 0.09 EUR / kWh) and for the deduction of certain expenses.
  • The antminer and PSU(EVGA) can be resold after 2-3 months of use which can recover a portion of the capital invested.
  • Start large (60 to 120 antminers) so you can mine solo and so you can negotiate prices with bitmain (I do not know if that's possible !)
  • stay in the starting block for the next generation of antminers.

What do you think?
