Executive summary:

1.) "I took advantage of an extraordinary event that turned out to be initiated by a rogue sell order, not legitimate trading."

2.) "Can I keep it? Look, here's why."

No, sorry. To allow the trade to stand would legitimize the attack, is that what you really want? (Besides bitcoins and dollars, I mean.)

People are being too emotional. He was just lucky, he's done nothing wrong. If you want someone to blame, blame MtGox security and immature rule of the market. He's earned his pie fair and square.

Proposal: Visual Identity for Bitcoin.
by
markietalkie
on 18/06/2011, 04:44:31 UTC
We're seeing Bitcoin gaining acceptance from restaurants[1]. In near future, it's going to pay for groceries, service and expertise, may be even a house.

Bitcoin will need a visual brand identity. Bitcoin will have to compete with AMEX[2]. And for that, it's going to need a visual in various forms. A brand sticker  to go next to credit card logos at cash registers. A small icon at Amazon's checkout page. Most important of all for this stage of prevalence, icons small business and individuals would put on their websites and cards.

We need it to be everywhere. We need those stickers to be available worldwide. [3]

Only then the value of a bitcoin will see a solid increase. Currency is no good unless it can buy stuff people actually want. All those bit coins you mined or bought with good rates will not evolve into multimillion dollar capital unless it actually grows.To promote bitcoin is to grow your bitcoin capital.

I say we collectively fund and hire a designer/marketing expertise to create solid visual identity to communicate with people.

[1] http://tech.fortune.cnn.com/2011/06/17/the-clock-is-ticking-on-bitcoin/

[2] List of competitors is long and complicated. It'd include everything from all credit card to PayPal, but we wouldn't want to kill off future possibilities of those companies accepting BTC as payment/transaction currency.

[3] And low-resolution picture printed on low-quality paper put on a wall with bluetack is NOT how you deal with currency. That's why we can't just have PDFs for everyone to download and print.

Um, what is the root password? Right after creating persistence it says "Authentication is required to mount the device." - and obviously it isn't "live" nor "alpine".

Chinese autocracy is cheap. That's how China is affording such radical change among people. Democracy requires autonomous individuals.

Autonomy, individuals experimenting at different stages and expertise to achieve maturity and proficiency, is a luxury only select personnel of developed country can afford.

If you live in the Chugoku region, we might be able to meet up and trade.

Unfortunately I live in Tokyo, and I haven't got any track record of online purchase besides my eBay rating.
I was hoping to secure cash out method - would you be interested in private trade online some point in future, at near-MtGox's rate? FYI, here's my eBay profile under an alias http://myworld.ebay.com/kalcifero - avatar changed to include my username.

I transferred JPY to MtGox's SMBC account from my Shinsei Bank account and it was converted to USD using the Google rate. I then bought BTC at the going rate minus 0.65% in fees to MtGox for the exchange. Shinsei give me 5 free domestic transfers a month so that didn't cost me anything. Keep an eye on TradeHill. They are coming up with some alternatives too.
Get an account with them and use my referral code for a discount on the exchange fee they'll charge you.

Holy shit, my brain must be really fried.  Thanks for the info! Will look out for referral input box.

Now, is there any better way to cash out BTC?

JPY <=> BTC, seriously lacking

So here's what I found after two full restless days of resilient research, assuming you do not have bank account in USA or other countries where BTC service coverage is good

JPY => BTC
  -international bankwire to MtGox, etc: bank will charge you 5500 JPY.
  -fund JPYs with NETELLER/Moneybooker domestic bank wire--> buy VirWox USD --> buy SSL with USD --> buy BTC with SSL. for each conversion you pay commission of 2%~4%.
  -buy BTC at amazingly high rate at Youtip: http://www.youtipit.org/faq currently 1BTC on sale for 27.5200 USD
  -buy liberty reserve from crappy Japanese vendors, takes severals days or up to several weeks

if you do have USD bank account in Japan,
  -go on forex market, buy USD with JPY, cash out, than international bank wire (which will cost you about 5500 JPY anyway ), fund Gowalla and than MtGox

if you have more than 10000000 JPY in Citibank Japan's bank account,  you'll be able to send funds to any bank account in the world for free.

BTC => JPY
   -cash out with liberty reserve, find someone to have it international bank wire to Japan, absurd handling fee as always
   -buy SSL with BTC --> buy USD/other real money with SSL on VirWox --> Paypal --> domestic bank wire

TL;DR: there are no viable option to buy or sell BTC from Japan,unless 5500 JPY is ignorable to you, or  you have 10000000 JPY sitting in Citibank Japan's account, or you don't mind losing 10-20% of your asset.

Has anyone had any luck?

It'd be great to have mining farm cooperate. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
You can just use your bitcoind if you don't need any advanced monitoring.
Otherwise search for pushpool open source pool software here.

thanks.

I could and would pay 700 USD IF I'm getting what I signed up for.

Q:How do I know you won't run away with my money? You can run away risk free. You have nothing to lose. You'll have to do some legal backing if you want to trust me.

Q:So what exactly am I getting out of this deal, if I'm the only financer?

Q:
>the more investors I have the more you get of the profit.
 but more investors there are, smaller cut of pie I get. I don't think you're thinking it thorough.

Q:
>If you want to make the short term profit with long term investment then I will require you to pay a yearly fee for server upgrades it will only be like 100 dollars or something like that.
whatever payments we'll have, I need much precise description. and legal backing.
