So was this an actual scam or did they legitimately cancel the project and refund people?

https://modulum.io

Fortunately I only dumped a negligible amount on it but I never received an e-mail or refund.

/e: it was legit, I got a reply and the refund via smart contract worked!

Please contact me in the official MODULUM telegram group.

Yes sure is, now more than ever actually. It is rare to find a project that has such value to its token from the stand point of the investor, but at  the same time providing a perfect score on the Howey test. I love the idea that you can invest in this project, and not have to depend on the exchange speculation to end up making a nice profit. All you do is HOLD and let the Index created by the Ignite Ratings system do the rest. It is just a matter of time till this whole project takes over Crypto. How could it not with so many ICOs popping up every day??

- Token listing on several exchanges

Are there exact dates for token listing and what are the exchanges?

The tokens will be available right after ICO completion, first platform to trade will be Etherdelta. We are also planning to list the tokens on one of the following exchanges: Cryptopia, CoinExchange, YoBit, Livecoin, C-CEX, Mercatox, Novaexchange, Tidex.

Why i have decided to invest in Ignite (IGNT) now.
by
martingore
on 23/09/2017, 14:22:31 UTC
Project name:    IGNITE  - igniteratings.com
Investment stage:   Pre-sale
Pre-sale/ICO:      Nov-Dec
Headline:   A decentralized rating system and Index for public offerings (IPO, ICO etc).

Description:  Ignite adopts an innovative approach by combining a decentralized ratings platform with an investment index that is powered by the ratings platform itself. Ignite's software automatically deploys the index's capital by way of investment into the highest rated assets.

It works much like any other rating or review platform, whereby Ignite's users are the ones providing opinions and feedback on blockchain-based assets. Ignite refers to their users as the Ignite HIVE, which seems appropriate - all users work together, combining their unique skills, opinions and investment methodologies to generate a collective ratings score.

Another interesting feature of the Ignite solution, is its "Reputation Engine". All individual submissions are, themselves, subject to review and rating by the HIVE members, which acts to build a user's on-platform reputation – HIVE members with low reputation scores have less, or even no influence on the ratings process, while highly reputable HIVE members have more of an impact. In this sense, the community is also self-moderating and the platform resistant to collusion from those who would seek to "game" the system. Ignite records all interactions with its platform on the blockchain, ensuring that all users' activity is fully transparent.

In traditional finance, ratings agencies are incentivized by the issuers, which creates a de facto conflict of interest Ignite points out that this "ratings shop" approach directly led to the financial crisis in 2008. Additionally, traditional ratings are not based on real time information, but are usually written and distributed after the fact; thus value for a trader or investor is limited at best.

Ignite breaks away from the traditional incentive model as its users are actually deploying capital which they contributed during the Ignite ICO. Thus, the token holders are incentivized to rate assets appropriately, as funds are automatically deployed by way of investment into the platform's most highly-rated assets. The HIVE members are also encouraged to revisit and maintain the adequacy of their ratings as assets can be liquidated, or purchased instantly should the HIVE make a collective "decision". The Ignite Index will only invest a maximum of 1% of its current net asset value into any one asset, which makes the token itself an incredible diversification tool in its own right, as it provides token holders with exposure to the highest-rated ICOs.

The end result is a decentralised ratings agency which, according to swarm theory, should provide superior returns to token holders, while providing real time ratings information to the industry in general.

WHITE PAPER: https://igniteratings.com/white-paper/

Team: Both co-CEOs have a solid background, with law, finance and investments in this history, with the CTO having all it takes to lead this project with an impressive solid technical background.  They are advised by a few very professional individuals from the financial sector, such as Joe Cammarata of Speedroute, Vikram Nagrani of Hassans, as well as an IBM security expert and others.  The team will grow once funding will happen.

Caps: “Unlike most ICOs or crowdsales where 100% of the capital raised disappears into the operating accounts of the business, a minimum of 60% of Ignite ICO contributions will be securely set aside and used solely for the purpose of seeding the Ignite MASTER INDEX”.  Until $25 million is reached, 60% goes to the MASTER INDEX, above that number, it goes all the way up to 90% going into the Master Index.  Hard cap  is 100 million USD.  So yes, the cap is high, but most of it is going into creating a serious INDEX, which all token holders will gain from.

Token use:
These are the main features:

1.   Access to the Ignite RATINGS platform and the HIVE knowledge store;
2.   Ability to participate in the Ignite RATINGS process as a member of the Ignite HIVE (subject to eligibility and reputation).
3.   Deployment of a minimum of 60% of all capital contributed via the Ignite MASTER INDEX.
4.   A source of real-time income in the form of 50% of gains realised on "winning" trades of the Ignite MASTER INDEX.
5.   A reinvestment of 30% of gains realised on "winning" trades of the Ignite MASTER INDEX.
6.   Preferential early access pricing on third party pre-ICO and on all future Ignite INDEX IC.

SEC Regulation:   Perfect score on their HOWEY test.
https://igniteratings.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/Ignite-RATINGS-Securities-Law-Framework-Checklist.pdf

Conclusion:  The Ignite system provides an interesting solution to public offering ratings, both in crypto ICOs and in the old world IPOs. Due to how things are going with ICOs, it is clear a real rating service, one that can be dependable upon for being authentic and updated, will be required, needed, and desired by many. The timing in my opinion, with regulations hitting us, is perfect.   I find this project to be an incredibly solid opportunity with both short and medium term potential, but of course a great long term investment.

Why I have decided to invest in Spectrecoin (XSPEC) now
by
martingore
on 28/08/2017, 10:47:31 UTC
For a while I wanted to invest into Monero, not so much for the gains in the short to medium term, but for the long run. I believe that within this crypto circus we dwell in, one can truly find ways to store one’s fortune in the most private and secure way, and in complete and utter contrast to the methods the bank system in the old world, have  forcibly put upon us.  I am of the opinion that we now live in an age, where we have given up way too much information of our own private financial  life, information which many times is used against us by those who have obtained it.  The old world has noticed us, and slowly but surely, is penetrating this world, spreading it’s destructive ways, trying to gain control.

I feel now is the right time to start to move forward with my original plan, and so I started to really dig into the world of all those projects that not only provide speed and convenience  at low fees, but also privacy at the levels I feel are required for the present and of course for the future.
I took a very close look at Monero, ZCash, Dash, Pivx, and Bytecoin BCN,  and though they each offer an overall very good level of privacy, they lacked one thing that to me seems so  trivial, yet was not included in any of them : TOR !

> Full table comparing all coins : http://imgur.com/a/nodcN

What I felt was missing was for the  wallet itself to run  within TOR, the anonymity network, in order to make sure that all in and out traffic from one’s wallet, goes through the TOR network. This in exchange, provides another level of solid anonymity on-line, censorship circumvention and network privacy,  one that has not been broken and is used and tested daily by millions.

“Tor hides the network traffic to and from your computer when you transact on the blockchain. Without using something like Tor, an actor with the ability to monitor a large proportion of the Internet (e.g. your government) can easily tell where the transaction originated, by seeing where the first broadcast of the transaction appeared. By using Tor this type of tracking is made virtually impossible.” – quoting the lead developer of Spectrecoin.

Three projects came up that provide what I was looking for: VERGE (XVG), Spectrecoin (XSPEC) and Signatum (SIGC).  The latter is now obsolete (“The dev abandoned project after too much pressure for a proper release. We have removed SIGC from the pool and cut our losses."  bitcointalk.org/ August 18, 2017), which leaves two projects, both I found to be very active with a serious supporting community behind them, and with an impressive outlook and development so far.

After spending time with both lead developers of both teams, as well as getting a better idea from their communities, on how the projects have progressed in the recent period, my conclusions are, that they are pretty similar. Both are led by very dedicated developers, who have a deep knowledge of the topic of crypto privacy, and who are eager to deliver the perfect solution and please their hungry, loyal and excited communities.  The XSPEC community especially impressed me with their friendly attitude and willingness to share information. The technical specs on both are impressive, with the VERGE adding i2p support and a few more neat options, and XSPEC providing working stealth addresses (yes, your address does not show up on the explorer!) with extra features in the near future.

I asked the lead developer of Spectrecoin, Jansen Garrick, to provide a little explanation regarding the stealth address included as part of the project “Spectre coins can be "minted" to Spectre tokens. When the tokens are spent, the input of the transaction is a ring signature over many tokens of the same value held by different people. This makes it impossible to know which of the tokens was the actual source of the funds.. Spectre tokens are held in "stealth" addresses.”

Another interesting unique feature, or even, bonus, is that there are no fees associated to sending XSPEC, and of course.. it does go from X to Y in 30 seconds on average!

At this stage, I was left with one point only to truly use as my final decision maker: value of the coin and it’s market cap. :

In the past week, XSPEC has risen by 138.60% , and in  the past month by 194.55%.  Market cap is 13 million! Potential is huge. The entire “privacy coin” sector is gaining fast in the last week, but all of them have large to huge market caps, which does in some sense, limit the size of the gains one can expect. I will type this again: $13,000,000 market cap!  Current price is below 70 cents!

Based on all my findings, as well as a raw view of the coin’s financial situation, is it clear to me that Spectrecoin (XSPEC) is the privacy coin I want to invest in now.  On a technological standpoint, it is impressive compared to the other five big coins. With it’s tiny market cap and steady growth, I feel the potential here is huge for both the short to medium run, and of course, the very long run, where it is important, in my opinion, to be able to achieve some level of privacy in this crypto circus we dwell in.

Why not squash two flies with one stone and go with a project like this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2041169.0

"ERC-20 token"

Oh, because it's an ICO shitcoin/cashgrab/gambling BS, nevermind me then.

a white paper is not a project .. just yet
i will 100% take a look though, as it does sound interesting.

I suggest you do the same with QRL.. as unlike the one you directed me to, this one is actually going live in Sep/Oct and is the first of its kind to actually reach that point

QRL is not "ICO shitcoin/cashgrab/gambling BS" . spend some time on it.. I did. you might end up happy you did. I am!

Every single ERC-20 tokens are lazy cashgrabs scams. There's literally zero reasons to start a project with the stink of being a noob-friendly plug-and-play coin with the stench of all the failed(/or intended scam) ICOs coming from ERC-20 tokens.

If the devs are confident in their projects they should fund it themselves or find outside investors. Otherwise you get a centralization of funds which goes against everything that crypto stand for - simple as that.

You might be happy but you sure as shit don't care about what crypto is all and simply speaking you're just a gambler looking for a quick cashgrab. There's nothing wrong with gambling - as long as you're honest about it but ERC-20 token "investors" (e.g. gamblers) are generally lazy and intend to take huge risks in the hopes of high returns completely ignoring the idea of cryptos.

you know what your rant just proved ? that you didnt even read anything i shared here. again!

the QRL was offered to the public as an ERC-20 token to create funding for the project. The project is a blockchain with its OWN token, and that has ZERO to do with Ethereum or ERC-20 tokens. I wrote : "QRL is an ERC-20 token for now until the blockchain launches, where one will be able to swap the tokens to new ones. " !!!

Now, instead of being obsessed with one small insignificant temporary point about this project, why not spend the time to read about it and make your self aware of what this actually is. ? you care so much about the purity and authenticity of crypto, them read about The QRL, as you might end up being impressed by a group of hardcore guys who have come up with an incredibly impressive result!

"You might be happy but you sure as shit don't care about what crypto is all and simply speaking you're just a gambler looking for a quick cashgrab. There's nothing wrong with gambling " :  not going to waste a second with that bs..

Why I have decided to invest in Quantum Resistant Ledger (QRL) now
by
martingore
on 22/08/2017, 16:33:42 UTC
The topic of quantum resistance is a complex topic, at least for me. When QRL came up a month or so ago, I recall moving on fast. Today it came up again, and as a result, decided to stop and spend time on the official website (theqrl.org), and figure out if this is a project I want and should invest in.

What is The QRL :

“The QRL is a cryptocurrency ledger which is designed from the outset to be resistant to both classical and quantum computing attack. It uses a different system of cryptography to bitcoin (and all other altcoins) known as hash-based digital signatures which are quantum-resistant.  The ledger will be the first to experiment with quantum-resistant signatures whilst providing an ultra secure backup store of value in the event of a sudden advance in quantum computing. The initial aim of the chain is to offer a low volume of ultra secure transactions in the first iteration with guaranteed longevity. “

More about QRL here:  http://cryptopotato.com/qrl-taking-quantum-computers/

These facts convinced me today to invest:

1. One of the key points I look for when evaluating a potential investment is timing, and it seems in that regard, my reacquaintance with QRL today, is incredibly well timed.  Next month, or early October,  QRL’s mainnet goes live with its Genesis block.    The actual blockchain goes live!

Kaushal Kumar Singh, one of the core developer on the team, confirmed the following in their Slack channel:  “The first hardcoded block created into the blockchain is the Genesis block. This block includes the list of stake validators for the first epoch. Mainnet is expected to be on September/October. Currently, it will be released with ephemeral messaging feature. As ephemeral messaging is in the roadmap for the month of October. Rest of the features such as VPN, VoIP would be planned between the year 2018 to 2019. The exact month would be released once the mainnet is live with ephemeral messaging”.

2. Dr Peter Waterland, the founder and core developer of the project, explained to me the differences between the Quantum resistance offered by QRL, NEO and Ethereum’s upcoming Metropolis.

 NEO :

“There are different candidate post-quantum signature schemes in existence. Hash-based signatures have minimal security requirements and XMSS which is used in the QRL is PQ-crypto recommended. Lattice- based crypto is another type of signature which is thought to be Quantum resistant (indeed we will be using it for our Ephemeral messaging layer. Our resident post-quantum cryptographer doesn't feel lattice-based crypto is mature enough to secure accounts/addresses. The bottom line is that currently NEO doesn't contain lattice-based addresses and what they are saying is they may add such address types in the future

ETH Metropolis:

“ETH has quantum-safe address types on their roadmap. Whether they appear in metropolis is anyone’s guess. Quantum-safe signatures are massive and so high volume blockchains like ethereum would immediately choke if they moved towards them..”

If it does appear, is there still an advantage to QRL over it?

“Yes. Firstly, we are using hash-based signatures, which only rely upon the cryptographic hash algorithm. In contrast, lattice-based signatures may in the future be broken. Secondly, once a fully error corrected QC emerges it will not matter if you have some addresses protected in QC-safe addresses. Prices of all tokens not completely secure will move to zero. If 5% of ETH is in unprotected standard ECDSA addresses with exposed public keys, then when a QC computer emerges those coins can be trivially stolen. Now if the other 95% of ETH are safely stored away in QC addresses then everyone might be feeling very safe.. But actually 5% is more than enough to crash the price to cents. The only true protection is 100% security of all ledger addresses. . So the QRL is taking the view that we are making our ledger completely 100% secure and are choosing the most robust signature scheme and hashing algorithm possible.  This isn’t something major chains will want to do because it basically increases block sizes massively. So we get roadmaps and possible QC-safe address options..We are being proactive and building something irrefutably secure from genesis block."

3. Market cap is at a small $29 mil (!!) with the token trading at around  55-60 cents $. Truly undervalued, with massive potential of gains in the short to  medium run.

QRL is an ERC-20 token for now until the blockchain launches, where one will be able to swap the tokens to new ones.

I expect very nice gains with the launch of the blockchain next month or early October. I believe if the media catch up, things could get very interesting!
