Plenty of theories on what is happening. I wouldn't be surprised if the Chinese government is interested in using btc to their advantage and maybe make some profit on the side.
The Bitcoin market cap is currently only around $16.2B. That's peanuts to a big government.

Don't forget that you can have multiple copies of the same paper wallet. Could keep a copy in a safe deposit box, and a copy buried out in your garden.
Yeah, I hope that they're at least getting compensated well by Ver and Jihan for their efforts

I think it's good that the exchanges are forthcoming about this. Ideally the blockchain wouldn't fork with angry people on either side, but I don't think that there's any other way for the exchanges to resolve this on their own.
No one uses cash at starbucks. It's all phones, credit cards and debit cards. Try and buy a beer on a plane. They don't take cash.
I don't know where you live, but in the UK cash is still common, even with tap and go on cards. Also what planes have you been getting on? They usually take cash in a ton of different currencies.
