the Led´s in the dummy plugs are not really usefull for everybody. they do the only job to show me if there is a card damaged. for the reason that it is very cold and drafty in the room and that i´m very sluggardly i decide to install the led´s because so i can see without open the glass door between the rooms that every card is ok. if there is a card doing not enought hashes i need only restart the miner by remote and to 98% the led will not light if the card is damages after the miner has restart.
I believe there are 2 kinds of fans, the normal everyday fans and the turbine kind like you have on the cards. The normal fans blow in every direction, but the turbines take it from one side and push it out to the other. The turbines take air from inside the case and blow it out towards where your monitors plug into.
I think in your setup you are blowing the hot air coming out back to the cards.
Put your hand where you would plug your monitor in, you will feel the hot air coming out. Or try it with a lit cigarette, and see where the smoke is being sucked in...

I'm a firm believer in trying to cram as much power into a single rig as possible. Buying (4) 5830's is cool and all - and yes the 6990's use more power and generate more heat - but if I can get the same BTC generation power out of two cards (versus 4) - why not go for it?
