Re: LocalBitcoins finally seeing some competition?? 165 BTC 24hr vol. on BitQuick.co
by
meganite
on 01/08/2015, 02:53:33 UTC
Just check bitquick, it charges 2% fee, but localbitcoin only charge 1% fee.

Yeah, but localbitcoin price is higher than bitquick, so it's still cheaper for buyers, but more expensive for sellers.

Localbitcoin is ridiculous expensive, I don't why some people still buy btc in localbitcoin. Maybe it's easy for some criminals to cash out, no wonder it's more expensive.

Been buying and selling on localbitcoin as a seller from a long time, I really feel safe and wouldn't move to a new site just because the rates are a bit lower. Most of the new buyers actually come to localbitcoins through their search. This thread is actually the first of what I am hearing about Bitquick.

Just got mentioned on Coindesk today: http://www.coindesk.com/bitquick-us-cash-bitcoin-market/

LocalBitcoins might feel safe, but they've been hacked multiple times and they still aren't using multi-sig. Bitquick has $250,000 of insurance on escrowed funds and uses multi-sig.

Apparently Bitquick isn't any safer; they ran off with my BTC, and do not answer their order support emails. Only way to contact them is email, no telephone number, and domain registered via Domains by Proxy..... what are they trying to hide?

Hey all, I just wanted to see if I could get some feedback about our service.

We are a peer to peer trading platform, and have been around for nearly two years. The service is very similar to Localbitcoins, but we protect users from scams and fraud, eliminating the need for a reputation system.

Give us a look if you like, and let us know what you think!

BitQuick.co

You want some feedback?

Try answering your order support emails in a reasonable fashion, and NOT running away with your seller's BTC. Shameful customer service for a boost.VC company...... I *really* expected more from Bitquick.

We are now having record liquidity! Over 200 BTC are currently for sale, and our processing time is less than 20 minutes.

Sorry to say, but seems as if Bitquick cannot handle their success. Sent some BTC to their escrow address, and it never appeared on their live sell order list. BTC has now been transferred out of that wallet, but I was never paid. Emailed multiple times, but no real response to my problem. Bitquick certainly looking scammy from where I'm sitting.

lol, this thread........  Grin

How ironic it has become after today's events.

What's ironic?
NXT today is exactly as NXT yesterday, nothing changed. It operates strictly as designed.

Sure, the function is the same, but the potential ramifications are not. Besides, I was referring to the thread title, and the tongue in check questions posed the past 12 hours.

This is a great thread. Well, it *was* much better before digitalindustry inserted his senseless propaganda into it.....  Cry

Anywho, I tend to agree with those that see a form of GlobalID coming into existence; something that automatically identifies your place on the blockchain, no matter where you are. However, such a concept is extremely frightening, as it would have serious, serious implications if abused or utilized by nefarious actors, especially actors of the corporate and governmental persuasions.

Re: Litecoin TANKING...opinions on future outlook both nearterm and long term?
by

For me LTC seems still high overpriced. Sometime it was THE altcoin. Now its just another one.

The market cap is still very high. If you put in the cap #5 at the same level of DRK i.e. the price will get to 1usd or below, where it should be.

little Litecoin is just going through its birth process none of the others on the Cap (top 20) (apart from Quark) flow with any free market force. (perhaps Zeta)

if ASICs proliferate Litecoin has a chance - if not its going to slip into obscurity.

sorry i'll add FTC and Prime to that list - they "pretty much" flow with the free market more or less.

Litecoins volume in USD today is nearly $7,000,000 ranking 2nd behind BTC

Many coins are in the top 15 for volume of trade.  For example Ripple, Darkcoin, Doge and Monero all trading 5 or 6 figure volumes (USD) so far today.

So far today Quarks volume is $1920.  LOL.

If by "fluid with the market" you are talking about liquidity...  well Quark is losing badly and is in 56th place as an alt.

have you read any of his "threads"? He is a huge troll and the best action would prolly be to put him on ignore.

Exactly this. Plus, you can vote for him here:

Quite a few good picks on the list (HOBO, MYR, DGB, GRID), but also wayyyy too many head scratchers. AC, MZA, P$, CAIX have absolutely no business being on a list of "sleepers/hidden gems".

Re: Pre-mined and Facebook distribution
by
meganite
on 06/08/2014, 03:27:54 UTC
Verified Facebook accounts .... because it's difficult that there will be more than one account for person.
That's completely false. There are TONs of people with more than one "verified" account. Not to mention all the "blackhatters" that have boat loads of accounts. Guys that are making a shit ton of money using facebook ads go through a lot of "agency advertising" accounts as well which aren't easy to setup and yet they create new accounts day after day when their others get shut down. Couple months ago I wanted to test something and bought 25 youtube phone verified accounts for $5. I'm sure you could find the same sort of thing for facebook.

Fact is, there's no way to distribute anything "fairly" on the internet as there are always people that can come up with a way to get a lot more than anyone else. Not to mention that not every uses or wants to use facebook (there's threads on the Stellar forum complaining about the use of facebook).

+1

Using FB to distribute is not a good idea for a multitude of reasons: inherently unfair for most (see above), big privacy concerns, use of two centralized corporate authorities to distribute, etc.

Re: CloakCoin scam warning
by
meganite
on 04/08/2014, 05:08:08 UTC
Hey folks, just want to share my thoughts about CloakCoin. Initially I was very excited but some red flags were raised.
No proof of technical details. The whitepapers are very vague and contain no groundbreaking details. Details that would be potentially groundbreaking, like how PoSA works or how the OneMarket protocol works are glossed over. The FAQ gives half-assed answers.
with integrated API trading. No stealth transaction functionality.
The dev(s) are completely anonymous.
Users on Bitcointalk have complained about critical posts deleted in the CloakCoin announcement thread
The PoW stage lasted 7 days, which means the dev(s) could have mined a large portion of the total coins. Some miners reported seeing 20 GH/s on the network immediately. This is effectively a premine dump.
I can't find much original code in the Github repo. It seems like it's all code copied from Bitcoin-qt and related repos with minor modifications. Certainly no code for the alleged groundbreaking algos in CloakCoin.
The site is all talk and no show. The vague whitepapers, the snazzy meaningless graphics, the pointless youtube videos under "development," and the lack of technical discussion in the community.
Putting all these together makes it seem like an elaborate scam. If this thread is deleted (which would then be found in /r/undelete), that would be even more reason to suspect. Buyer beware...

I agree with all of this.

Proof-of-Scam?  Check.
Long on hype, short on published code?  Check.
Pumped by new accounts?  Check.
Convoluted whitepapers radiating bogons?  Check.
New blue-sky features announced before fulfilling previous ones?  Check and double-check.

The Cloak team is very good at telling us what we want to hear, I'll give them that.  And their logo is fantastic too.

But where is the beef?  Put it on github or go home.

The only cryptographically proven means of anonymity at the moment is Cryptonote's ring signature based approach.

When the Cloak/XC/Dark/Black kids claim to have a system with equivalent security, just laugh at them and hlod Monero.

An extremely obvious +1

Re: Best pure POS coin? (or alternative 'mining')
by
meganite
on 02/08/2014, 05:22:38 UTC
whats so great about POS anyway?

Well in my very biased and bigoted opinion, PoW does nothing but waste a fuck ton of electricity which regrettably is usually made by the burning of fossil fuels (or worse). PoS on the other hand, can be fully utilized on something as basic as a Raspberry Pi that can easily be solar powered for a 'reasonable' amount on money. I say reasonable in the sense that it would be insanely cost prohibitive to power a GPU card or ASIC via solar cells for generation of coins/network health.

You want to use crypto currency to change the world, its much more feasible to connect the world with pi's then a gpu farm.

[edit] Or wind etc... maybe a pig farmer could burn enough methane to make it profitable but thats getting pretty far fetched.
