Thanks for your suggestions, but in meanwhile I earned the price of each 1060 again. Seems that you are real pros.

I am mining RVN coin using z-enemy 1.08 miner and pool ravenminer.
I have 8 x NVIDIA 1060.
How can I find out, which difficulty I should set in program parameter?

Cons of separate instance for 8 ethminer.exe on 1 PC?
by
mensa1984

Hello,

I have 8 Nvidia 1060 GPUs connected to 1 Windows 10 PC (Celeron G3900, 4GB RAM, 40 GB swap on SSD).
To find out max. overclocking settings for each card, I currently prefer to run a separate instance of ethminer.exe for every GPU itself. So I can see exactly which GPU failed and not the whole system stops after a failure:

Code:
ethminer.exe --cuda-devices 0 ...
ethminer.exe --cuda-devices 1 ...
ethminer.exe --cuda-devices 2 ...
ethminer.exe --cuda-devices 3 ...
ethminer.exe --cuda-devices 4 ...
ethminer.exe --cuda-devices 5 ...
ethminer.exe --cuda-devices 6 ...
ethminer.exe --cuda-devices 7 ...

So this starts 8 windows on my PC.
Do you think, that I should use that way of running ethminer only for testing? Are there any disadvantages if I start like this? Is the system or even mining slowing down cause of this?
Or can I leave it like that?

Automated speedtest script for GPU OC settings?
by
mensa1984
on 15/04/2018, 10:47:58 UTC
Hello,

I know that I can find out stable OC settings by hand for each GPU by lowering the Memory Clock (Ethereum) after each crash.
But it would be much more comfortable, if a script could doe that automatically.

Like this:
Start with highest settings. After each crash, lower the settings. After 2 weeks without a crash report the max speed.

What do you think about it?
Is there anything like this already available?

Yes, it's my own rig. But it is with 8 x 1060 GPUs. So as far as I know, 8 GPUs does not work in Windows 7, 7 are max., right!?

Don't you think, that they would be also good for mining Ravencoin?
I did look in that tutorial and it looks interesting too with 1060 3GB: http://1stminingrig.com/how-to-mine-ravencoin-rvn-with-amd-nvidia-gpu-and-cpu/

sell it or protest against bitmain
I don't have a problem with Bitmain, I understand, that they also want to make money.
I am just looking for another coin now.

Hello,

as 3GB cards will soon be unusable for Ethereum and also Bitmain seems to bring ETH ASIC miners, I am looking for a good coin to mine.

What would you suggest?
Ravencoin?

Re: Claymore's Dual Ethereum AMD+NVIDIA GPU Miner v11.5 (Windows/Linux)

-lidag 1
-eres 0

DDU + 376.33

worked for me too! Also with Claymore 11.5.

For how long time will that work now do you think?

try to run with -eres 1.. 2.. 3.. etc this will show you how many epoch forward this will work

Could you please say, what will that mean in days / months approximately?

3 GB Nvidia GPUs still mine ETH in Claymore but not with ETHMINER? Why?
by
mensa1984
on 29/03/2018, 10:24:35 UTC
Hello,

today all my 3 GB GPUs (Nvidia 1060) stopped working with ethminer.

Then I found a solution to be able to still use that 3 GB GPUs to mine Ethereum:
  • Remove all GPU drivers with DDU
  • Install Nvidia drivers 376.33
  • Use Claymore miner instead of ethminer
  • add that two parameters for Claymore: -lidag 1 -eres 0

Then it's working again.
I know that it won't be for really long time. How long do you think?

And is there also a solution to get them working again in ETHMINER?

To which coins do you switch with your 3GB cards now?
What's best currently you think?
Raven Coin or ZCash?
