Important note in case some people don't know

just watching a battle near the centre..

someone got the crown and it seemed by the play style that they do not know that: You cannot Destruct when you are holding the Crown of Fortune.

Is it possible to have game rules documentation readable within the classic client? Actually I don't know where to find the uptodate play instructions. I heard that third party client like MM client have something like this. that's sweet!

Again where to find the documentation regarding rules in the game?😂

I've actually been recommending his client to beginner players because of the tutorial inside. The core client has instructions at this link, but they're out of date, now. Mainly, generals are no longer a thing--they're all called Hunters--and destruct doesn't kill you, but instead drains surrounding hunters' life

sounds like a lot basic work to do

That's awesome, then, but where on the blockchain? Are you just inserting little markers for your client to interpret? My initial worry would be that this would bloat the system if you had AIs of greater complexity. I assumed the bots which plague our map currently live off-chain, given the number of responses and behaviors they must be programmed with.
The client only interprets the (blockchain chat) messages, and some regular "send coins" transactions. When I need "markers" then the method of choice is to have the client's open source code initialize gamestate variables at certain block heights. (to avoid preloading the gamestate with "secret" data)

Compared to the normal processing of tx's and game moves, there is no noticable performance impact.
(but betterQt client need an extra minute to start because the gamestate is pruned, would be 300MB to download if not)

I don't see any bot on the map, just human farmers (they probably use the stock version of Mithrilman's client)

If there is no one to play the game, then what is the meaning of changing the rules? As long as the blockchain can hold the capacity of players, the rules should aim to encourage people to play.
Yes, this is very necessary.

I can't do rule changes. Only Snailbrain can do rule changes.

So, things like gems, chronoDollar or the AI market maker just using the existing framework, which is rather flexible (but not enough).

Current game rules reward being relentless in such an extreme way that the economic metagame (plus some other things) has choked normal
gameplay. (If someone don't believe this, just go out and play for several hours, win most fights with a kill to death ratio of 2:1, then look at your bottom line, and then guess your opponents bottom line!)

Thats why the game rules need to change asap, pruning is nice but by itself won't change a thing.

If you had the power to change 5 rules (in a simple way), what would it be?

Thank you and sorry for the complaints. Huntercoin is a crypto project, and the token HUC except those gained in the game also mined as the way like bitcoin. So I see HUC as a cryptocurrency. In crypto world, not only huntercoin, if dev team has ablity to change protocols at will but not on consensus(of miners, coin holders, gamers specific for huntercoin), whatever the changes is valid or not it's not important, will scare everyone away from the project. imo Snailbrain and the dev team are all decent people, that's a proven fact after all work they.have been done.

Maybe naive but I do think the possibility of changing rules back to state when the game was created. It's may not a wise decision but certainy a safe one. And a attitude of respect of consensus as well.

Besides changing the game rules, pruning, bug fixing, etc. kind of job indeed very necessary and dev should get many credits because of it. They have been working all these for free after all.

Thanks for the input!  Have you (or anyone else) also experienced the crashes already on GNU/Linux?  I'm unable so far to get any crash with various combinations of name_list and other commands.  Also, if anyone is able to reproduce the crash, it would be cool to get a stacktrace or something from GDB (I can provide instructions for GNU/Linux).

on ubuntu, i got a seg fault after creating 2 hunters and then the next block coming in (but i dont' see any rpc's)

restarting the daemon seems fine, until i do do a name_list.

seems same issue on ubuntu,

I think domob is travelling for the next 2 weeks or so.

If someone can fix the issue, we can provide 5k HUC bounty from the dev fund..

I finally got synced and I can't seem to create a new player.  When I click new and put in my name it give me "Name Registration Failed"
"Error:  This transaction requires a transaction fee of at least .000 because of it's amount, complexity, or use of recently relieved funds"

I put 8 HUC in my wallet so there's coins to make a player but It just won't let me.  I've tried a bunch of different name in case my name was taken but same thing every time.

I remember now this is why I didn't play in the beginning... I was getting this same error.  Any ideas?

You need at least 10.01 HUC to start with one player. Besides it will cost you at least 0.01 HUC every move you make.

I haven't checked on HUC in months (though I still own a portion), so it's good to see that development is still ongoing. I like this little coin a lot, and wish it could get a little more love.

So I wanted to let you all know about a project initiated by James/jl777, who is a key (not core) Nxt developer, and a core BTCD developer, called Supernetwork (superNET). It's too complicated for me to describe in detail, but this is from the OP:

"This is the network that will be created by joining all the participating coins into a single unified network. Each coin will of course continue to operate normally, but there will be an option to use any of the services that are available in the Supernetwork. Each coin that joins the network makes it bigger and also adds its unique tech that is then crossmarketed to all the other nodes."

Please read more here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=762346.0

I think this offers an opportunity for much greater exposure. Of course, maybe that isn't what you want right now, while you're still solving critical issues. But maybe some attention would help.

From what I read, James is only going to sign up coins that bring something innovative to the crypto world, and Huntercoin certainly satisfies that requirement.

This is not just another exchange listing, but offers a kind of interoperability (from what I understand) among all the coins in the SuperNetwork. Please read more at the link above for the details.

Have you got any responses from Snailbrain? I feel very positive of your kind suggestion, as well with your comment on huntercoin.

I do not troll! I just got tired of loyalty on the part of the administration / developers. I am a supporter Huntercoin from the very first day of its existence !!!

I tried all versions from the beginning to this point (without exception). I tried to be always connected, but the latest version of the "F" is something ...

Personally, I have brought to this project a lot of people, but they almost immediately left this coin because of loyal administration !!!!!!!

I can not play (I'm an experienced player and by certain operating time), so please tell me how I can bring a new player in this ?! What he was able to do if nothing works properly ?! He immediately goes and no longer want to come back here!

Kindly reconsider your attitude towards society and let us work together for the community! The fact that I have a bad English, it does not mean that we can not find a common language!

tell me what problems you are having?? please explain.

The only issues technically are (that i can think of atm) :

Slow syncing (large chain) -- being worked on. Syncing blocks after disaster is actually 100x faster. Once pruning is implemented we can put up some "agreed upon" pruned chain (maybe domob can add some sort of rpc which prunes/normalises so everyone has identical output (pruned chain) so can make sure is legit (produces some hash?).
possible pending hunters if playing hardcore - try new update to see if it fixes.

Game Issues:

Need more players, needs possibly some adjustments of game mechanics >> accessibility (pruning/mobile client), playability...
Being worked on.

Explain in detail your problems

I won't use the word hardcore, coz pending problom is much easier to happen than you think. Actually when you are killed by someone, even with a new wallet, there is chance you ended up with pending situation.

It's a very serious problem can happen to even casual player. The ppl in the middle have "dominated" the huntercoin world, so it's very bold for them to creat new players because they know they will take every the pop-up coins created in the middle as always. So in this perspective the pending problem even do more harm to the casual player. Just my opinion.

Why do it still load when I have downloaded the whole blockchain??  22 weeks left...

This is normal! There can not write, because here nobody until you doing!

Here you are no help!

As it is not sad, but it is a fact !!!

There is only one person is MithrilMan. Work, good! If you do not help, then help is no longer wait, no one will help!

What? Dude, seriously, use google translate or something, your posts are largely unintelligible, other than the fact they are obviously negative.

I reckon he is a chinese...

Some time ago (during the last age) there was talk about a Chinese team controlling the centre for a living - I guess they more or less have to sell the coins they make in the game in order to pay their bills, if true.  Anyway, I'm HODLing and buying from time to time.

Dear Domb, good to know this.
I personally very excited of the news and attitude from official related to huntercoin market. Because it's so few.
Huntercoin's technical support is much better performed than marketing, if there is even any marketing there at all. LOL...

DOMOB! VN work!

I hope so!  I have not yet mentioned it so far, but I believe that running some bots with this (or a similar framework) may also help with "manual" play.  For instance, you could configure AutoHunter bots to keep certain areas (where you want to gather manually) clear, to hunt down specified players, protect a given player you manually control, keep some path safe or whatever.  I. e., the "gruntwork", while you focus on more complicated game moves.

I've discussed quite a bit with the MOTO community, on the general human mine and proof-of-play thread, and elsewhere that I believe that in the median term time-frame for these technologies this combined human/bot mining or "cyborg" mining, will likely be the most productive way to mine these coins.  I imagine that people will keep dumb or "tedious" bots running when afk, and will use combinations of more advanced scripts/tool-kits when "actively human mining" for increased output.

Since Gatra pointed me at the FoldIt game, I've been watching that community of players.  It seems that the successful players all play as cyborgs, and some of their "bot tool-belts" look to be pretty extensive collections of both specialized and general optimization/learner algorithms.

I see this as probably being inevitable for HUC, MOTO, and possibly (likely?) even projects like GRC should they stabilize.

Quote
I have no plans to try anything like that by myself, but I think there are a lot of possibilities.

This actually has me interested in trying my hand at HUC again.  I still have my old merge-mine pool server even though the pool itself has been dead for some time.

Quote
You could even offer running a certain number of bots doing specific tasks for someone "as a service".

I've always worried that someone might start a time-travel-hashing service and end up ruining the coin, heh.

However, I agree that there are a lot of opportunities for in game services in HUC.  For example hosted guard bots that, once procured for a small fee, travel surrounding your general and automatically clear out any incoming threats.

There are probably a lot of similar opportunities for "mining assist" services in MOTO/GRC/etc as well.

Dear HunterMinerCrafter, thanks for replying my PM. I think you will be much welcomed here in HUC community too as you earned in moto.

I have a player stuck in "pending" mode, but he is not moving and I do not have the option to move him.  He just kinda sits there? Any ideas?

There is a longer discussion about this at http://forum.huntercoin.org/index.php?topic=123

If you think your players are stuck due to some issue with destruct (double spend), the most efficient way I deal with it is to make sure all the transactions are deleted (use the transactions tab in the client, select pending transactions, and right click -> delete transaction), then send all of the coins out of the wallet to another wallet address. The goal here is to make the wallet balance perfectly zero. I would expect the transaction to NOT go through successfully, and you can clean that up later. Then send some new coins into the wallet and you will be good to go.

When you are done with that wallet (players all dead or you transfer them to a new wallet) you can delete the pending transaction for sending the bad coins, then rescan and you should be good to go.

Can't wait for domob to figure this one out as it would save me (and i am sure others) some headaches.

BGB, You are so clever and straight-forward.

There are less than 10 people in this game, compared to more than 100 people at  four months ago. Not only the huge block size is the obstacle, the game strategy is too simple, just  plan the trace again and again, the one create more characters has more chance to win, which has no difference with POW and POS, even worse than POW and POS.
There are some obvious faults in current game mechanism.  someone create large amount of characters to control the rich pool, waiting the coins full of pool, then create a self defined way points to collect hundreds of coins in a single transaction of moving, which largely decreases fees of  F2Pool or other pools supporting this coin.  The rich pool is more easily controlled in current game mechanism, Only 4 or 5 people create 80% characters of the map and capture 90% of the coins, which makes this coin more quickly to rubbish. Grin

exactly, but "it's in good hands" so we can't expect an aggressive change even in months.
