I've got the biggest chunk in cold storage (Casascius bar) which would require a plane trip for me to go get them. Hence the temptation to spend them is reduced.

Then a very small amount on my cell phone (mycelium) for my expenses and purchases.
When my Case wallet arrives tomorrow this might change - I'll keep my cold storages for savings and the rest on my Case.

There is a stupid simple way to not destroy bitcoin's value and cause forks and still allow for wiggle room when it comes to blocksize:
For smaller faster transactions; just use a frikken altcoin thats based around speed....

I don't see why people can't wrap their heads around this simple concept..... and instead they would rather risk everything falling apart over a whole redesign of the currently stable system.

What do you tell to the 150 000+ merchants that already adopted Bitcoin? There is also millions of dollars invested into development of Bitcoin based businesses.
Your solution sounds simple, but it's a lot more complicated than that. The alternative would be to just lift the block size a bit, and see how it goes.
A lot of the merchants accepting bitcoin can already accept other altcoins.

Very cheap at the moment and is a very good long term investment.

Wouldn't any number of XEM suffice then instead of the 3 million? The work alone discourages the setup of multiple nodes. Only wealthy people can join the node reward system with this setup.
In my eyes even people with no money should be able to setup a node.
And I think the aging and the testing of the nodes also protects the creation of multiple nodes from one person.
