Still worthwhile mining with antminer S5?

Tried the online calculator for an S5 running with 7 cent/kWh power cost... it chewed more power than it pooped BTC.

But it's still commanding 100usd apiece asking price. Any other use of that thing I dont know about??

A roomful of S3 chewing 10kW is now only the size of one at 13% power requirement. Just when I'm starting to get cozy with S7 prices the difficulty would skyrocket... again. Sigh...

The S7 I/O board by Bitmain

Saw that the board came with 3 connectors with space for 6 more. Does that mean I could just solder some more sockets onto it and it'll be able to handle 9 hashboards?

Someday a bunch of home miners would find it economically feasible to hire another bunch of people to blow up a couple multi-petahash mines and drop the difficulty a few notches...

Just get some thick copper cable, attach a hook on and chuck it up the nearest power line...

Hooked up 3 ant s3 to a 1gb/mth data plan once and it chewed 533MB over that period. so about 180mb/mth or so each I presume.

Hi to all

Just switched my ISP from totally unlimited (but very slow) to 150Gb per month (but quickish) 4G internet. I am hosting an S3 in my bedsit which actually is a nice little 400W heater now the nights are getting cooler here in Portugal. The question I can't seem to find an answer too is how much bandwidth does an S3 use in a 24 hour period? (up and down) I have Networx installed on my desktop and laptop which gauges the usage from computers but the S3 is connected directly to my 4G router so bypasses the monitoring.

Any help much appreciated. TIA

Antminer S3 locking me out...
by

Anybody else have this problem when suddenly the miner does not recognise the usual root/root login & password combo? Out of the blue a miner decided it's not the correct password and refuse to budge.
Tried to hard reset the thing but despite going with all the methods described everywhere, it refuses to reset too.
Thought the push button could be faulty so short-circuited its legs under the board to no success...

The miner is running... happily hashing away. But I cant make any changes to the pool & stuff.

Any idea what to do?

A possible reason is that he's running an industrial drying room. Rather than just putting in a heater, might as well put a heater that mines btc on the side... I've seen one enterprising fellow did just that.

Well.. the price hike could probably because the Chinese are celebrating their New Year until next week. The big farms are on holiday and just let their btc stack up until everybody returns to work. Then it'll be a selldown.

I hope... haha

Bitcoin, like fiat currency, is just a vessel of value. How high a value that it'll encapsulate will depend on its utility and rarity. The more it's accepted, used and cycled, the higher users would place value in it. Hence the demand. Holding on to it may increase rarity and maybe push the price up a bit, but the moment somebody decided to unload, the price will plummet. So the best is increase its utility. The value will follow.

Just my 0.000000000002btc...

It could be highly illegal... but then it's India!! Do all the laws they want, there's very little capacity (or will) to enforce them...

Do Bitmain actually entertain warranty claims? Received an S3 with one blade DOA, and another with faulty controller. Asked me to document a set of tests for them and email it over. That's like a month ago. No replies of any kind...
