Re: [Automatic] Building windows bitcoin client from sources
by

on 10/03/2014, 07:14:21 UTC
I realise this post is some 120 days since the last.

Has there been any improvement on this (or other) process?

I've scoured the net and this is all I can find at present:

1) I don't want to use coingen.io because you have little control over what is built - you still have to take the source and compile it afterwards.

2) I don't want to use the services of razorcoin either as it seems very expensive (try 1 to 3 BTC !!) for anything more than a very bare bones coin build.

I'm relatively new to crypt currency. I have been mining on Windows and Linux for a few months (CPU, GPU, ASIC, ANT, solo, pool, p2pool, cgminer, bfminer).

I'm looking for either:

a) a one-stop shop/service that can build wallets (Win, Linux and perhaps Mac) and perhaps other components (like a BlockChain scanner etc).

b) a developer who is willing to assist/teach the process.

c) simple instructions to setup & build altcoins (video preferred) on a Win7 x64 platform.

Either reply here or PM me.

Many thanks,
Mark

Is there any exchange for this coin yet?)

I suggest you read through this thread from the 1st post as there is much info to be gleaned.

Not much(((

No, not much at all, but given many members are hashing around the 3 to 11 Mh/s rate on oct.minecryptocoins.org and 11-62 Mh/s on fusionhash.com, not to mention the other pools (and some solo miners), they'd be getting the lion's share.

What can I say?! There are some serious miners out there with some awesome scrypt rigs Smiley

I'm in mining for the longer term. I'm just collecting coin with the hope they will be worth something one day. I don't trade as I think that activity has too many inherent risks (for me anyway).

27.72597697 from oct.minecryptocoins.org

I have yet to receive any coin from fusionhash.com - but I suspect they'll turn up soon as others have been receiving coin from them. Fusion have this to say on their site:

Notice: Due to the initial DDoS attack and subsequent spike in mining combined with low difficulty, some blocks were logged out of order in the database. Statistics and payouts will be paused until we've organized the transactions. Stratum servers are still online and, rest-assured, all shares will be accounted for. Thank you for your patience.

How much exactly did you recieve?

@MCCPool

Just rcvd my 1st payout from your pool (oct.minecryptocoins.org). Thank you.

27 x 888 coins; mined across an approx 1.5hr period hashing at around 800 kh/s (2 x GPU rig).

Moved to fusionhash.com after your announcement re: plans to shut down your pool.

I may move back later in the day now you are up and running again - depending on how fusion goes.

Also why didn't we find any blocks in the first 500 or so?

Refer to the octocoin.org website, and past posts in this thread by OctoCoin ...

--------------------
During the first 6 months, ~31 million OctoCoins will be minted
  • 0.8% pre-mine (block 1) for promotions, marketing, rewards, donations, and dev team compensation; public ledger will be available
  • 888 OctoCoins per block during the first 8 days
  • Following 88 days, 88 OctoCoins per block with a 1/8 chance of hitting a bonus block containing 888 OctoCoins (~123 bonus blocks/day)
  • 88 OctoCoins per block during the next 88 days
--------------------

Appreciate the feedback MCCPool.

Have you turned off block updates being posted on the front end because of load? Have you turned off anything else that might usually be displayed on the front-end (website pages)? If yes then posted messages on the dashboard would be useful to alley the fears of those who do not understand tuning a pool's performance while under heavy load / stressed.

I ask because the website only shows 1 block (993) being processed by your pool that has around 167 workers doing 205.594 Mh/s

http://oct.minecryptocoins.org/ SCAMMERS??

Mining there for 1 hour with 2.5MH/s got only 7.4 uncomfirmed coins ??

No, there is no scam involved. There have been technical issues with the launch.
It appears most(all?) pools also had the same/similar issues.

This has been very stressful for me Sad
Please understand that I did all in my power to troubleshoot the issue,
but in the end I don't think it was a problem isolated to my pool.

@OctoCoin. Thank you.

As a relative newbie to crypto currency I don't profess to know the ins and outs but am certainly learning as time goes by. I do understand the essence of your logic and am appreciative that your organisation is making a real attempt at providing something more concrete than just a coin. If crypto-currencies are to succeed where fiat money has failed (the people), there needs to be a solid framework and a nurtured eco-system. Unfortunately this eco-system needs digital coins, and at present this is a bit of a teething issue in an otherwise excellent 'new-currency' vision.

I for one sincerely appreciate and applaud your efforts. I have a history of building tech start-ups and truly understand the difficulties and challenges in your undertaking.

If I can help please don't hesitate to PM me.

@sammy007, your less-than-intelligible statement doesn't provide me with any insight beyond what is known today by miners. I'm seeking an articulate discussion/answer to my question re: KGW.

@MCCPool, thank you for your explanation. So in summary a new coin shouldn't launch with KGW enabled, but enable it at a later date, when the coin is listed on one or more exchanges *and* there is evidence of multipooling.

Hmmm, I fail to see why a coin couldn't/shouldn't launch with KGW enabled from the get-go. Does it have some sort of inherently large overhead that isn't good for coin launches but is good when multipools interfere? I'll see if I can find more info from other forums.

For those who are not familiar with KGW (Kimoto Gravity Well - invented for Megacoin) then this article http://cryptofrenzy.wordpress.com/2014/02/09/multipools-vs-gravity-well/ might help.

Also read this article regarding 42Coin and plans to implement KGW and/or PoS etc ((and why) https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=500968

I don't understand why people here are happy that 888 isn't using KGW given it's effectiveness against multi-pool mining when the 2 articles above both state KGW is a good thing.

Would someone like to explain?

Chris, you mean this one (https://github.com/RazorLove/pennies-qt) by JimmyS?

That link doesn't work (404 page not found error).

Thanks chrisj89, but all 3 versions cause an APPCRASH for me. I have no idea why. All other qt wallets I have (several of them for different coins) all work just fine. Can you tell me where you got your working version from please?

I believe i used the one from page 46 on this thread. also does anyone know what about 1.8 Billion of these is worth right now, or what someone would pay for them?

I've tried all 3 versions (as per my note in GitHub -> https://github.com/RazorLove/pennies/issues/7) but they all crash.

Hmmm ... the exchange system IS a mess. And people still don't have a clue how to create informative (web) user interfaces (UI) or a decent user interface experience (UIX).

I'm not a big fan of the "teething problems" excuse either ... it just means someone released a product way before adequate testing was completed (most likely driven by greed).

In this day and age of technology you would of thought architects and programmers et al would of got their act together by now. After all many forex systems have been built before now. It's been over 3 decades since the PC and the programming industry "grew up" and gained significant experience in real-time systems.

In short there is no excuse for incompetence.

If you don't have the funds, skills and experience to create a professional working exchange then don't foist some half-baked system on us.

Also, why I'm at it, improve your communications Cryptsy. So a lousy blog (with not date/time indicators for each post) is just amateurish. And a Twitter feed with 1 Tweet every day isn't exactly insightful. Be more transparent. Communicate more frequently. Don't bullshit (people smell bs a mile away).

You'l get more understanding from people if you communicate openly and honestly.

I do wish Cryptsy every success, but until they improve by leaps and bounds, I think their service and system, well, frankly sucks because it is undependable. In my opinion there should be no room (or tolerance) for amateurs in such an important market as a financial exchange, especially if they cannot be held accountable for their operation.

Re: BFGMiner and USB Block Erupter Problem help needed "User privileges...COM1"
by
mfread

I had a similar problem.

Win7 x64 / bfgminer 3.10.0 x64

I have 2 devices; ASIC Block Erupter and ANT U1

My ASIC was mining just fine, running from a CMD script in F:\Crypto Coins\Miners\BFGminer\bfgminer-3.10.0-win64\asic.cmd

Then I got an ANT U1 today, plugged it in, ran a CMD script from the same folder as above, and got "Do not have user privileges required to open COM3". For a few minutes it was mining (Accepts) but then everything turned to "Rejects".

I moved my BFGminer folder to F:\bfgminer and ran the ANT script as Administrator. Am still getting the "Do not have user privileges required to open" error but no more rejects.

The ASIC script, ran from this new folder location, still works as it did before (no difference to performance etc).

So my guess is there is something in the BFGminer code logic that is slightly different between ASIC and ANT processing.

ASIC.CMD
bfgminer -S erupter:all -o stratum+tcp://de1.miningpool.co:10701 -u mfread.asic1 -p x

ANT.CMD
bfgminer -S antminer:all -o stratum+tcp://de1.miningpool.co:10701 -u mfread.ant1 -p x

(yes, I could run both devices off the one CMD line, but from time to time I like to run each one against a different pool, and yes I know I can up the clock rate on the antminer to give a better performance than stock-standard 1.6 GH/s)

Try moving BFGMiner to a different folder, off the desktop. A similar problem (at least privilege related) and solution was posted here (scroll up to see the original problem) and while I'm not sure that it is the same as your issue, it shows that shortcuts or files on the desktop can cause this.

I'm not saying it will work or even that it makes sense (I'm not sure why Windows would do this but he didn't post enough info to investigate further). But it's something to try and rule out. Because the desktop is a user folder Windows treats it differently than something in a non-user folder?

Anyway, put the miner's folder in a folder like C:\Miners (so C:\Miners\BFGMiner) and also put your batch file in there (you may have to edit the paths in the batch file depending on how you wrote it). Browse to the folder in Explorer and double-click the batch file and see what happens. Also try right-clicking on the batch file and selecting Run as Administrator. Also don't put the folder inside the Program Files, Program Files (x86), ProgramData, or Windows folders as that may cause additional problems.

Thanks Cassey.

I have my monitor plugged into the on-board (motherboard) VGA port. I am anticipating that any Word, Excel, Web browsing I do uses the on-baord (Intel) graphics chip and not the Radeon GPU.

I don't play games. This isn't a gaming machine. It will be used for my work (a lot of web & SQL coding - mainly in multiple virtual machines).

I am using the Radeon 6970 purely for GPU mining. It'll run 24x7 so I don't want to run the GPU too hot (I'm aiming to keep it below 80C but at the moment I'm only getting 220 Kh/s when below 80C).

I am still playing around with various combinations of intensity, threads, shaders etc. I wish there was just 1 doc that explained all the params in a simple language. For example, starting with a very simply command line (no params - but what are the defaults used??). Then slowly building the command line to improve performance (ie. what is the most important singula param to tweak first? intensity? Then 2nd param? Thread count? I don't know). At the moment I see too many params and I'm just confused as to which ones I need to tweak first. Yes, I could spend a whole day tweaking and recording params and the effect after 15 mins, but geeze, there's gotta be a better way!

What are the 3 sets of numbers in bfgminer? I've never been able to work this out and can't seem to find any screen shots etc in any of Luke's docs.

Ignore that third number until things stabilize a bit (like its run for at least 10-20 minutes).  What I was more focused on is the 0.04 MHash (40 KHash) shorter term numbers that are displayed.  That is a bit low, but possible with an "-I 9" setting.  Try it about "-I 15" and see how it does.  Inch it up one-by-one until you either see a hardware error (very bad) or performance becomes unacceptable.

On the side:  Please don't be thinking about playing graphics games while mining - the two are NOT compatible.  Shut down mining when you are going to do so.  However you should be able to find a setting where basic web browsing, excel, powerpoint, etc. will work fine.

BUMP.

Hi all. Seeking guidance from the group once again.

Environ: Windows 7 x64

Am running bfgminer via this bat file:

c:
cd C:\Users\Mark\Desktop\bfgminer-3.10.0-win64

setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1

bfgminer --scrypt -S opencl:auto -o stratum+tcp://doge.pool.mn:3333 -u mfread.storm1 -p 123456 -I 9 --auto-fan --auto-gpu --thread-concurrency 8192

pause

http://i62.tinypic.com/24156x4.png

http://i61.tinypic.com/4sjs3q.png

(1) Why am I getting 73 Mh/s?? No HW errors. Shouldn't I be in the 415 Kh/s range for a single GPU card mining? I see acceptances too. So it looks like it's behaving. After 44 mins it is reporting 144 Mh/s and no HW errors. The mining pool says this worker is doing 48 Kh/s.

(2) I notice that bfgminer doesn't show me the temp of the GPU (but in the bfgminer notes it says that Radeon 69xx is supported). Is there another driver (like the AMD SDK stuff) I should be installing?

Hoping some of you more experienced guys and gals can point me in the right direction.

Cheers for now.

Mark

No.

Are you running Windows or Linux?

The Batch file I mentioned is for Windows only. For Linux you'll need a different approach.

If you are using Windows, add the PAUSE command to the end of your batch file. See my post above for an example (it's in green text towards the bottom of the post).

Hi guys, anyone know and where to add command to bfgminer so that when i quit i can read the stats before the window closes?
like in my .conf file.
Thank you

i think this is it ( Summary of runtime statistics:) when i hit Q i don't get to read it window scrolls by to quickly then closes.
