That's about the least helpful reply you could give to what I presume is your answer to this question:


The answer is: it's not easy. Cointerra has some kind of minimalistic linux build running in a small 32MB partition. They have a full Angstrom build mounted at /Angstrom but you can't run any binaries from there (the dynamic linker seems to not want to run them). The cgminer binary that's running in all stock Cointerra boxes right now was custom build against uClibc, a minimalistic libc for embedded systems. If you want to build your own version of cgminer, you must either cross compile your own armv7 binary that links against the installed libraries in the beaglebone (in /lib), or get the full Angstrom distro somehow running and install a build environment with opkg.

KNC runs identical hardware, but you can actually run opkg right from the command line and get git, gcc, etc. installed without changing anything. On cointerra's build, not so.

tl;dr; it's not easy, and I'm curious myself.

if you don't mind me asking, what rough order number and date did you have for your Jan batch delivery, and how long did it take to go from "Shipping Preparation" to "Shipped"?

BTW - I installed a 70A 120V circuit breaker in my main breaker box and ran two 20A dual-plug outlets.  Each miner has each of its PSUs plugged into either outlet so that both miners are sharing both ciruits.  Each circuit should be good for 20A * 120V = 2400W.

I'm a bit disappointed that one of the chips in my 2nd box is not running.  But Peter responded to my text message immediately and we're troubleshooting the problem at this time.

really?  at 1.6 TH in a 4U single box, you're a bit disappointed ?   they just showed proof... working... the fastest, lowest cost, and smallest working bitcoin mining box that has ever existed... running with only four chips and by the looks of it, at 70 degrees according to their stats, they're not even breaking a sweat....  and you're disappointed?     And they said each day their engineers make it go faster...

they've literally gone from yesterday not being in the mining business... to today, having an extremely impressive box...  hashing faster than any box I've ever seen... that i would happily take delivery of tomorrow...!

Now all they're doing is tweaking it to go 20% faster before they ship it?  heck, thats the smallest leap of faith I've ever been asked to make.

they didnt say what their asics draw.  they said what the system draws at the wall.. which includes a built in controller, plenty of fans, a liquid cooling system (pumps).  and they confirmed that their power conversion circuitry is what theyre redesigning for the new version...

anyway... what any asic company says (based on simulation) before they get their chips back, and what they say (when its fully tested and includes all the real-world losses) after their chips are in a system always seem to be different.. and i cant think of anyone who delivered a system with the same power draw as their specs.   can you?

DATELINE: 1/20/14 Austin, TX

Our last update on January 14th included a short video of a working TerraMiner IV, and further information regarding the testing and characterization status.

Over the past week our engineering team has been busy conducting some board tweaks needed before we can push the button to commence production of our first batch of TerraMiners.

At the same time we have been preparing the hardware for mandatory FCC and CE product testing and certification, and UL safety testing and certification which we have been informed will take approximately 2-3 days to complete.

We expect to begin shipping the initial run of units at the end of this week, incrementally ramping up production for volume shipping commencing next week. In parallel the production lines at both of our Central Texas manufacturing facilities are presently assembling the chassis (including the rear fans and power supplies), front panels (with fans, grills and LEDs), and the other non-board components in preparation for the fully-populated boards to be dropped in for final assembly and a short but essential burn-in quality control testing period.

We have signed off on the first release version of the software which controls the TerraMiner, having made some final tweaks to the web-based Control Panel, and flashed to each BeagleBone Black controller board. The user guide, with step-by-step instructions for setting up, configuring and operating the TerraMiner will be posted to the CoinTerra website prior to shipping our first production units.

We expect to be able to post another status report later this week with updates on the certification processes and shipment of our very first production miners.
