Do you have any kind of budget allocated for the front end development? Or is this another profit-sharing model :/

Re: I finished a BTC poker app&back-end but don't see a revenue-model

If I was a smart investor (and trust me I'm not saying I am), I'd probably not worry about taking the time to develop a bitcoin poker app and go with something like Cubeia's offering (http://www.cubeia.com/cubeia-poker/). I looked at them a while back and even with 50% margins on your rake it's going to be really hard to grab the market share you need to make your efforts worthwhile.

I see it almost as all or nothing. Seals with Clubs does not report earnings, but I recall seeing an article from Forbes regarding "projected" profits and they were around 20 million US annually (this was a few years ago). That's a nice chunk of change, but like I said it's a market share game. They have/had a number of pro poker players backing their system and regularly playing with their users and a lot of freerolls (back in the day). That builds a lot of loyalty.

There's nothing like brand loyalty, and it's going to be hard to get those kinds of avid players (IMO). Bottom line, I have a pretty extensive marketing background and could have just styled a poker client and had the app already built (using Cubeia) and walked away with 50% of the rake but it would have been an uphill battle to grab that market share. There are a lot of other online casinos offering BTC for chips as well nowadays.

I love hearing new ideas though  Wink

Are you hosting this yourself? On a LAMP server? Why not save yourself the security & maintenance and get hosted for cheap?

Free AWS LAMP micro instance for the first year of AWS membership... Might be worth looking in to.

Just my 2 cents Smiley

You can get a lot done with templates from the Envato network if you want to work on a budget.

Buy an Infographic pack and with some Illustrator & Photoshop familiarity you can bang out beautiful Infographics on a budget!

Buy an After Effects project and you can easily create a promo video, animated whiteboard explainer video, or style some gorgeous kinetic typography!

You can cut some corners by not trying to reinvent the wheel when it comes to design, but when it comes to original content... You will typically will get what you pay for.

Cheap services like textbroker or even fiverr can result in some mediocre articles that may contain 1 or 2 keywords (that you specify), but will not drive any traffic to your site or keep any visitors there.

I'm not sure why you went with Blogger, but I would move to use your own hosting & deploy WordPress. You can save a lot of time and money by purchasing a WordPress theme from themeforest.net (envato again FTW).

Present your content in a unique way and provide your visitors with a fresh perspective or you will be damned to the depths of the internet abyss.

PS... No I don't work for Envato  Smiley   If you have any questions feel free to PM me!

Re: Idea for a web app

I've got a good bit of experience coding custom web scrapers (mostly custom scripts in Node using Phantom.JS to simulate DOM and iterating through elements in standardized results)...

There are a ton of free web scraper extensions for Chrome out there:
http://webscraper.io/

They have a much higher degree of control over the data pulled and the output format...

Why reinvent the wheel as a square? Get what I'm saying?

Also, what use is BTC in web scraping (besides paying for custom jobs)?

I always read techcrunch in my AMs while I have my coffee and came across this article today:

Looks pretty promising Smiley

Totally agree! CoinCPA & CoinReporting are both paid services I believe... It would be awesome to see that functionality implemented in the wallet clients!

Hi Perlover!

If I'm totally understanding your idea, it is to create a site that allows users to track investments? I was actually working on a site like this up until a few days ago when I saw these:

https://coincpa.com/
and
http://www.libratax.com/

I wish I didn't have to work 40 hours at a regular job and had time to focus on these types of projects, maybe then we could've beat these guys to market with a viable product!

If anyone is interested I was using the Sails MVC Framework for Node.js and MongoDB... But I think CoinCPA has done it quite nicely honestly.

So now I am in active search mode for a BTC project (since my last dream was dashed). I have another excellent idea for a SaaS startup but it's not BTC related and I want to support the community, so if you have any cool project or ideas message me!

I already PM'd OP, but I'm just going to throw this up here as well!

I have actually been building a much more feature rich site in my spare time that I believe you may be interested in.

I'd be glad to schedule a screen sharing session with you to demo some of the implemented features and discuss some of the planned features.

PM me to setup a time?

I'm available now, also please keep in mind that I have a day job (in the same field).

Re: Developers Wanted - first open source intellectual property system
by
mintmoney
on 15/11/2013, 15:41:49 UTC
Yes, I am clearly not offering patents.  My use of "intellectual property" is pretty liberal and I am attempting to CHANGE THE MEANING by offering a system that competes with the social function of the USPTO.  Nemesis will not be granting government monopolies or exclusive rights.  That much should be obvious.

Believe it or not, I have plenty of experience with the USPTO, venture capital, etc.  I have enough experience with the USPTO.  What you need to ask yourself is "do you have experience with the USPTO from an inventor's perspective?"  Thats the perspective I have.

Allow me to change the name back to a more accurate description: Nemesis the open source intellectual property exploit

Really need some more input into this, else i guess i may as well just scrap the idea.

I've been playing CS since 1.4... now i just feel old  Cry lol

anyways, I was taking a look at this:
https://partner.steamgames.com/documentation/community_data

and maybe something like this for security:
http://ucp-anticheat.org/

not sure what you would have on ESEA though(aside from being awesome and accepting BTC)  Grin

weird, I had an api-key enabled and no issues...

I hope you guys aren't setting your api key & pin variables directly in the code
(like in the callback example here: https://inputs.io/api#callbackexample )

hopefully TF gets the API back online soon  Huh  Grin

Re: [WANTED] Project Feedback!!

Open source means nothing if I am going to play on your servers, it be nice to know that my hand isn't being change due to an admin playing on my table or something like that. I think you should highly consider it.

You mean you want me to show everyone's cards at the end of each hand? I think that would turn most poker players off.

I see your point about not knowing what the server is running, but I think there is a basic trade off going on here:

Provably Fair vs. Ability to bluff

I'd like to put your mind at rest beyond a doubt, but I'm not sure how to satisfy both sides... open to suggestions though!

Also, on a side note:
saw a pretty cool movie called "Runner Runner", and you can see how JT solved the admin abuse on his favorite poker site!  Grin

You mentioned nothing about each hand being provably fair so yeah.

Well being provably fair and being easily provably fair are 2 entirely different things (as I understand it).

Maybe I'm off base here but I would think for a poker system to be EASILY provably fair, players would loose the ability to muck hands... not ideal.. at all..

As far as being provably fair, i did mention that the system is open source... you can inspect every speck of code if it would make you sleep better, but you should know that I'm building off a project where the backend has already been implemented in multiple paid sites and has already undergone quite a bit of testing  Grin

I'm definitely open to suggestions as to how to put player's minds at ease though!

Thanks for the input!

Yes, I had contacted inputs.io's ceo and he said that it is ok to make a gambling site with his API. Also, it is very cool that there is a legal company for bitcoin gambling sites!

Glad to hear they are degenerate friendly  Grin

Maybe my next project will be like a legalzoom.com but for specifically BTC ventures!

I have another idea for integration of a betting system with games like Counter Strike (kind of like ESEA but you wouldn't need a membership and could challenge people in game or on the site)... most likely I would set it up to work off the Steam API (not sure if they would like that much either though)
