Members! Let's be a bit considerate towards many noble black people who would visit this thread. Truth is that the color of a person's skin does not make her/him superior or inferior.. This is a well known fact!

Re: Monthly average USD/bitcoin price & trend
by
mktrader
on 15/07/2014, 03:00:06 UTC
I just updated my personal sheet tracking these things. The parameters of that one:
- flat price 0.005 assumed until Mt.Gox opens
- for 7/2010-2012, Mt.Gox prices used
- for 2013, three exchanges
- for 2014, Bitstamp only
- daily VWAP
- first day 2009-1-3, the first day of Bitcoin; last day 2014-7-9, the 2014th day of Bitcoin

The exponential trendline for this time:
USD/BTC = exp(-2.869800 + 0.003012 * D), D being the number of days

R^2 = 0.934183

The trendline is at $1583.

At $623, we are currently -0.405 units below the trend.

For comparison, the max we ever went below the trend prior to the first 2013 runup, was -0.573.
Prior to the second 2013 runup, -0.341.

The maximum downside (greatest drop in price experienced ever after) after a day when price has already been at a low of -0.4 or lower, is -19%, experienced in 2012-10-5 to 2012-10-26, when the price dropped from $12.75 to $10.31.

This is comparable to the price going from $623 to $504 this month. This would put us on par with the maximum historical downside from already such a low point as $623 represents in the trendline.

I will not go to the upside calculations now, just leave the closing remark:

TL;DR: Historically, buying at a price such as this has represented a very low risk entry point with very limited downside in dollar terms.

Historically, selling at a price such as this (for any other purpose than covering immediate needs) has been counterproductive, as it is very likely that you will get a better or at least not much worse a deal; 1, 2, 3, 6, or any number of months in the future.

In the above trend-line formula, can you please describe D (the number of days)? Is it a constant? How this number is calculated?

Cheers!

Re: Investopedia wants to know if 1 Bitcoin could be worth $1 Billion USD?

1 btc= $1 billion is not likely unless fiat implodes big time.

Nonetheless, 1 bitcoin can hit $100,000 in coming years.

This list might be coming in months/years as Forbes is very positive about the Bitcoin (they accept it as a payment method and even have a reporter in SF living exclusively on Bitcoin for last one year)

Re: phishing emails from bitcointaik.org
by
mktrader
on 08/05/2014, 19:30:07 UTC
How do you think they got your email to begin with?

they didnt get his email. it was a forum inbox message

these things happen alot. in the past it has been found that scammers prep their list of 'marks' by asking forum topic questions such as:
"how much bitcoin do you own"
"what wallet software do you use"
etc

these info gathering games are what scammers do to target the right people. after all there is no point phishing someone if they only have satoshi dust to their name. and theres no point entering into conversation with them to tempt them to download trojans if the scammers code is not compatible with the victims wallet.

so usually scam emails and private messages are targetted to the victim, because the victim has made some form of admission that he is worthy of being scammed. either admitting wealth, admitting he runs a wallet that is compatable to a certain tojan or the fact that the victim admits to not have 2FA on their other logins or lastly, they have been scammed before so are proving to be an easy 'mark'

This is very important information, specially for those new to the Bitcoin community!

Yes, I would prefer that. But in future they may have to do it anyways when Bitcoin's price rises substantially. People may not like a price tag of 0.0000013 Bitcoins on a pair of Armani shoes!

Re: It's Public Now: MasterCard Offically Lobbying on Bitcoin in U.S Congress

This lobbying activity clearly implies that the biggest payment processors, with trillions of dollars of annual turnover, are seriously considering Bitcoin as a threat or an opportunity. This explains the huge potential of the Bitcoin as a payment medium and its potential of reaching the $10,000+ price mark based on the expected upcoming demand!

No way. They cannot legally sell those coins unless there is a final court verdict on this case - and that can take a long time.

Bitcoin core developers need to take the lead and introduce measures in the code to preempt such an attack in first place.

It shows how scared MasterCard is due to the rise of Bitcoin. It's ironical that in their recent risk disclosure statements, MasterCard & Visa did not disclose Bitcoin as a risk! But from deep inside they are totally scared.

Full news story here:
http://thehill.com/business-a-lobbying/business-a-lobbying/204733-mastercard-lobbying-on-bitcoin

I think the community or the Bitcoin foundation need to wear their Lobbying hats NOW!

I think now I can confidently say: Bitcoin to the moon (AKA: $10,000) -- in medium to long term, of course.

Re: The database of all of the bitcoin private keys
by
mktrader
on 28/04/2014, 12:28:18 UTC
Nothing to worry about!

Of course, this is a database of all possible outcomes of private key strings. A few lines of computer code can generate that in minutes. It's so simple. Nothing new.

Similarly, one can also generate all possible outcomes of public keys quite easily.

For a computer programmer/developer, this stuff is the easiest.

The real achievement is that

Example:

If debit card pin codes are 6 digits long then one can easily generate and publish all the pin codes of all the debit cards in the world in minutes i.e. by generating the all digits from 000000-999999 and doing that is so much easy. But real part is finding out which pin belongs to which debit card.

Similarly finding a match between a Bitcoin private-key and its public-key is next to impossible!
