Re: D3 Antminer firmware update for additional mining algorithms
by
monkeyxking
on 29/11/2017, 00:23:29 UTC
I've posted this ten times and I'll post it again for all of you people.

The D3 is an ASIC-based miner. It can only hash one algorithm that it was physically designed to hash because of the way ASICs work. The Baikal miners and multi algo X-series miners were FPGA miners that could be reconfigured to hash different algorithms with a firmware update (FPGAs are designed to be modified). No firmware update can add more algorithms to the D3. Only a new miner release could do that, and it'd require Bitmain to make an FPGA-based miner which would also decrease the efficiency of the miner.

Signing this will not do anything and it wouldn't even if Bitmain wanted to. There's no way to "add" algorithms on to existing miners.

Man, I'm with you with how frustrating these people are. It's like you telling them 1 + 2 always equals 3. And they are like "Oh yes. That is true, but what if you do 2 + 1? Eh?" Just let the retards tire themselves out dreaming.

Re: Innosilicon A4+ Coming soon - Pre-order
by
monkeyxking

This was discussed earlier in this thread, but I can also confirm now that they do indeed fabricate another invoice and ship the goods with a value you decide. Very nice indeed.

About the A5 customers, is there anyone here? The hefty 10k USD price tag along with the current profitability with them seems like an extremely awful deal (never ever reaching ROI)...

I got an email reply and it seems that they are letting me use my preorder payment one one A4+ miner.  It's not certain because anything can happen between now and delivery.

I gotta admit that this is pretty nice of them.  I have been reading about how buyers of the A5 had to pay full price on the customs and wondered how the hell am I going to actually make any money with these things?  The customs VAT seems to be about 20% of declared value to the USA.

I also realize that this is a natural part of capitalism - people will extract as much as possible, as much as they can get away with.  When there's some guy in a back room figuring out that they can get an extra 30% and still have buyers clamoring for their miners then - well - forgidaboutit when it comes to magical profits.

PS My main rigs are still 1060's.  Mining has taught me to be a tightwad.  "Ah, they work and they are paid for"

A5 preorder customer here. Ordered in first batch. Original ship date was supposed to be October 10-20. It's now November 28th and I've not received a shipping notice or tracking number yet. Supposedly, I'm getting a free A4+ out of this delay, but I honestly have no idea whether I'm going to get anything at all anymore. I'm also hearing the miners that some people are getting are riddled with issues, like passwords changing on their own.

My advice, don't trust this company with your money. Let it die. You think you're sticking it to Bitmain by going with a competitor? These guys are just out to rob you.

I don't know if it's because of the scathing e-mails I've been replying to their A5 delay compensation e-mails with, but it seems like they are starting to ship the A5s. They previously asked us to provide name and address information for shipping, but now they're asking me again. Hopefully this means they truly are pushing them out now. Could just be that they don't want to talk to me anymore though. Ha.

I’m really surprised people still trust Innosilicon with their track record of underperforming miners and slow delivery among many other things. I get we all want cheap miners and competition, but they’ve already been known to deliver less than acceptable products.

The miners were FAR from cheap. At the time of announcement, it cost $10,000 USD for an A5 specced at 30.2 GH/s drawing 750w was definitely overpriced compared to the D3 that had just come out a few days or a week prior at 15 GH/s drawing 1200w. The D3's cost? I believe it was $2600~2700 USD for that first batch.

I think a lot of miners, myself included, wanted to give Innosilicon the benefit of the doubt. IF they delivered on time with promised specs, they'd prove all the haters wrong. Innosilicon proved them all right. You try to give any competitors to Bitmain the benefit of the doubt and you're going to get screwed for it. I hate the way Bitmain is pumping out D3s like candy, flooding the market, and killing the difficulty for us, but I still see them as the lesser evil in every case. At the very least, they deliver on time.

Innosilicon is now telling us that if they don't ship our A5 by 30 days after the last day in the shipping window (which for most people who bought in the first batch is apparently Nov 26), then we'll be getting an A4+ as compensation. If they ship within the month after they promised they'd ship them, we get extra miner hashrate, hashpower, or some coupons for you to get scammed by Inno again sometime in the future. This company is the best.

Re: Will Innosilicon ROI with A5 or A4?
by
monkeyxking
on 26/09/2017, 23:42:55 UTC
If the A5 meets it's efficiency specs AND matches up to traditional Innosilicon RELIABILITY, it might be the ONLY X11 miner that will be profitable 6 months from now unless you have VERY VERY cheap electric.

WAY too much hashrate (especially out of Bitmain D3 units) going to be hitting the network by the end of November to leave much room for profitability of less efficient miners.
I'm also not impressed with what I've been seeing so far about D3 reliability - seems to have the SAME issues as the S9 on that score so far.

The A4 met it's FINAL advertised hashrate - it was the early "before the units actually exist" estimates it didn't meet.

On the other hand, Innosilicon really needs to get to work on it's ordering process AND it's customer service - they do a better job than most on supporting their gear, but it's a PAIN dealing with them at all.
I had issues with an A4 preorder from a month or two back - they JUST YESTERDAY finally emailed me with an offer of a fix for the issues, long since I'd SPENT the money on other gear....

The issue is that because of the ridiculously high cost, the A5 will only be profitable after the 6 months. Those first six months you get it are going to be dedicated to recouping the cost. And the further they push back the promised delivery timetable, the longer that breakeven point is drawn out. Regarding the A4, meeting the final advertised hashrate isn't the same as meeting the advertised specs people used to make decisions on whether to plunk down the cash or not. Look at Bitmain's example where their final spec wound up being over what they originally estimated (17 GH vs 15 GH, and less power draw to boot). I'm not pleased with Bitmain for the amount of product they're putting out, but at the very least I can't fault them for delivering ON TIME and over their estimated specifications.

I was very upset to hear that the A5 was delayed to November. Seems to me Innosilicon doesn't know where it stands with its reputation regarding timely delivery, and with this it's abundantly clear that they have no control over anything. It makes it hard to put any faith in them as a company. First the A4s had issues with delivery, then the hashrate was much lower than they advertised. How can you claim to have the best miner? Who's going to take this company seriously anymore?

Just got an email from Innosilicon letting me know they are delayed by two weeks on the A5 Dashmaster delivery. They said the foundry is at fault and that there will be some reworking required. Sounds like the A4 Dominator fiasco again. I would advise everybody who was thinking about it to NOT buy batch 2.

Yes, the e-mail did mention that they would only be taking BTC and LTC as payment methods this time around.

I got an e-mail from Bitmain earlier this week. August 10, 5PM GMT+8 (so...5AM EST). Usually they don't send the e-mail until a few hours before the sale, but this time they sent it days ahead it seems. So tomorrow night, go to sleep early and set your alarm for a few minutes before 5AM, so you can login ahead of time as CryptoCrane mentioned.

To get on the mailing list, I'm pretty sure I had to bug them to add me by submitting support tickets regarding ordering.

I'm based in the US too and I set an alarm to wake myself up at 4:45AM to get ready...

If you know exactly what time the sale starts...be around at that time. Simple as that.

Re: WTF just happened! Bitmain D3
by
monkeyxking
on 03/08/2017, 16:03:34 UTC
Hey All,
Just a quick question. I bought about 10 D3 in the last/first batch at 2699 USD each and just bought some at 1599.
I am quite surprised to see why Bitmain would discount the miners by over 40% all of sudden. Am I missing something here? Needless to say a part of me is dying inside slowly, saying I should have waited. Is this a common thing bitmain does? I know Baikal did a similar thing but that was more from a competition and spec perspective but why bitmain. Clearly I am in shock
Thanks for the replies in advance

Your batch 1 units will cover the spread by being able to mine early.  This was done with the L3s too.  Better to have batch 1 at $1000 more each you should be able to make that back with a 4 week jump on the october batch.

Thank for your reply sir, I get it. Note to self. Next time wait till 3rd batch atleast before buying a new product line for Bitmain.
--- From a sincere bitmain slave

Not sure if you're not getting it, or if I'm missing something myself. My understanding is that you getting in on the first batch enables you to mine a month earlier than the people who got in on this second October batch. By having a one month head start, the mining you could get done in that first month before the second wave hits will potentially be way more profitable than the 1.1k price drop you would get from waiting for the second batch. By the time a third batch is released, profitability will have come down tremendously.

Re: NEW Baikal Miner Giant Plus (2000MH X11)
by
monkeyxking
on 03/08/2017, 11:13:00 UTC
Decided to pull the trigger as soon as it came out. And now bitmain, and the other x11 ASIC manifacturer made cheaper and faster x11 miners.

Im crying on the inside right now Sad

but the power consumption of the baikal is less than half so wouldnt it still be more profitable?

2 GH/s at 430w = 0.215w per MH/s

30 GH/s at 750w = 0.025w per MH/s

15 GH/s at 1200w = 0.08w per MH/s

The Baikal appears to be most power inefficient one of all.
