The price will never rise until the community grows. We're all just the same people standing around patting each other on the back and holding on, as people slowly leave the crowd. Innovation is great, enthusiasm is excellent - but we need more people. Things gain value when more people want them. We need more people wanting DigiByte. I see lots of talk in this thread, but that's about it. Not much mention on twitter, the reddit subscription base is super small compared to how active this thread is, and even when something cool happens, like DigiShield - the culmination of grabbing that opportunity for promotion is a modification to the title of this thread and an internal celebration.

This community and team is competent, capable, and enthusiastic - but we're far too comfortable keeping this a member's only club. Open the windows and doors, fire up the signs, tell your friends. This coin will continue a downward trend despite development without social growth. I urge the development team and particularly the PR director to address this officially sooner rather than later. If the team does not include someone dedicated to promotions and projects for the marketing of DigiByte on a social-media wide level, it is my opinion that this should be the first order of business. A growing user-base should be the number one concern of everybody interested in DigiByte's success.

Yes, development of support services helps to convince people - but that doesn't mean we can't bring people in now. Tell them about those upcoming services, even if they don't exist yet. Highlight the current strengths and unique features of the coin (sensible/transparent premine, professional team, DigiShield, etc) and try to find ways to do it quickly, unobtrusively, inclusively. Giveaways, tip-fests on reddit, contests for user-created promotional content, etc. When trying to gain new merchants and developers for services, a large user-base is a great selling point on why they should care.

IMO without some more promotional support the community will continue to slowly dwindle, eventually passing a critical point where the core believers aren't around any longer to help growth. Every once in a while the coin will be used for a P&D and mostly forgotten. Many scrypt coins have followed this pattern, why should DGB be any different? Make it different.

+1 Well said! Couldn't agree more.

Get to Reddit, Twitter, Facebook, etc. Tomorrow's update is a major one and it shouldn't go unnoticed. Keep spreading the word!

Emphasize custom anti-multipool code "DigiShield", block reward getting reduced by 0.5% every week starting next Friday, lead developer acting professional by releasing LinkedIn profile, and so on. Mentioning the increased value and volume should help too.

Total hash rate should increase significantly by tomorrow if we do this right!

I loved digibytes until I realize it is premined like hell. I still love it and mine too, but less. I think it is great coin.. I have good feeling from it, and I was stayed with it even if it looked lost last weeks. BTW, write more info about digishield at first page because I have no idea what it is.

Look at how many MILLIONS they GAVE away... Oh, and look at the developer account which is basically UNTOUCHED. They are as transparent as they can get and this coin is not a clone>pump>dump scheme. Premined doesn't automatically mean something negative.

They couldn't have handled the premine any better. Heck, they didn't even bribe exchanges to get listed...

Brb, cleaning my shining e-armor.

all these ppl selling. i'm buying as much as i can. this is only the start of a very long ride

and why you will say if you are wrong? I think that 150% gain is good enough. Why risk more than necessary . Now is your chance buy and make profit. You could buy as much as you could at 50sat. Why you buying now for 110+?

Because the coin is worth way more than 110.  Its funny that people were complaining when prices are low.  Now that prices are going up, people are still complaining lol.
coin was worth 200+at beginning then fall to around 60. So I think 140 is pretty good price for someone who buy and mine at 60sat. Do not judge people for dumping... it is just your gain. I made 120% profit.. it is good.
Sure, it's decent profits, but you are speaking to people that believe in this coin. What happened in the last 24 hours means very little when looking at the big picture. It started lower, then went up. Then down. Then up. Then down again. Then up. Then it went down over a longer period, which almost all coins launched at the same time suffered. Even LITECOIN suffered.

I like to compare DGB with USDe. Released a day apart with great community support. If we're just looking at the value, who is and has been winning as of lately? Also keep in mind that DGB has a larger total coin supply!

Compare DGB with any coin released in the same time period, which was a very hectic one when it comes to new scrypt coins, and ask yourself which coin is "performing" best? Even though DGB didn't offer much new besides a professional and dedicated dev team, it still did really well. Now that there are big things happening to this coin, it can separate itself from the category "scrypt-clone" which people tend to put it in, and do what the devs intended when they spent over a month planning this.

I believe that it boils down to bad timing, release wise. Let's see where we're at in a month or ten, shall we?

hey any news on the android update? will it be avaible before digishield comes in?? and if not what should we do? not use the wallet?

 Huh Huh Huh
It's on the website: http://www.digibyte.co/download-digibyte

I think that if DGB gets listed on a major exchange right before or right after the new difficulty retarget code kicks in, they would steal a ton of volume from the other exchanges. Shit's about to go down!

Are you saying this is a good or bad thing?  I see mixed opinions on a coin getting picked up by Cryptsy.
It was more of a "support DigiByte or not; we're progressing" kinda opinion.

A well established cryptocurrency like DGB can only benefit from getting listed on a major exchange. It would be like giving batman superpowers.

I think today is a great time for us all to email www.bter.com !

eduffield,

I noticed you took ASIC-resistant out of the title. It's what attracted me here and, IMO, it should be kept there at all times and is the second most important feature of DRK. Certainly more than KGW, which is becoming common nowadays. VTC has shown that there's a demand for ASIC-resistance so DRK might as well advertise it.
+1

Resistance against industrial miners is more important than multipool resistance IMO. KGW, or something similar to it, is becoming the norm nowadays anyway.

Big up to Chaos for helping that fellow sort out the wallet issue! (You spelt 'theory' correctly BTW.)

What do you all think about a new DigiByte lottery put on by the Dev Team?

I'd buy in!
Me too. Maybe we could give away some free tickets to the lottery on reddit, Facebook, Twitter, etc.

The new wallet looks great BTW!

NET HASH 7.20GH

Nice coin better comunity

Too bad one user alone is putting out 3GH. almost getting half of all daily production =\

310 000 khash on the official pool is 0.3 Ghash, not 3.

https://www2.coinmine.pl/drk/index.php - 3246.95 MH/s (over 3GH/s).

Yeah that's not what he said though. He said one user is putting out that much, confusing it with the top miner on pool.darkcoin.io .
But he said "almost getting half of all daily production =\" which implies that he was talking about a pool.

Re: [ANN][DRK] sph-sgminer - DarkCoin GPU miner
by
montecristo83
on 22/02/2014, 01:02:56 UTC
anyone know why this isnt working? Miner simply doesnt start.

sgminer -o stratum+tcp://drk.coinmine.pl:6090 -u myuser.worker -p x --gpu-engine 1100 --gpu-memclock 1150 -k darkcoin -I 19 -g 1 -w 256 --thread-concurrency 20000  --lookup-gap 2 --no-submit-stale --gpu-fan 85

One of the sgminers writes "Kernel darkcoin is experimental" and doesnt go on the other doesnt even start.

Windows? Add .exe behind 'sgminer'.

Very interesting coin! Been skimming through this topic and decided to throw some hash power at it. Sure, it's not the most profitable coin to mine atm - but that's not why I'm here.

Hmm.
What normal hashrate for 280x, 270x and 7850?
On 280x i have 1.8mh
270x - 1.176mh
7850 - 1.050mh

Its normal?

on my 280x i get 2.18 mhash

Care to share your conf settings? Im running at approx 1800 khash per r9 280x

I've experimented with 3 different 280X' and some older GPUs using the latest GPU miner.

280X:
ASUS DC2T (1160/1750): 2.4MH/s
Gigabyte Windforce 3X (1100/1500): 2.29MH/s
Sapphire Dual-X OC (1100/1500): 2.16MH/s

Fans at 60% = 60C-64C in a 29C ambient room

Code:
-g 2 -w 256 --thread-concurrency 8192 --shaders 2048 --lookup-gap 2
No intensity setting apparently means dynamic intensity of 13-14

Older GPUs:
MSI R6970 Twin Frozr III (940/1350): 1.57MH/s
ASUS DC2 HD6950 (810/1250): 1.41MH/s   <<<--- flashed to 6970
ASUS DC2 HD6950 (810/1250): 1.32MH/s   <<<--- this donk doesn't want to get flashed

Code:
-I 18 -g 1 -w 256 --gpu-fan 60,50,50 --lookup-gap 2 --thread-concurrency 8000,8000,8192 --shaders 1536,1536,1408

Fans at 60%/50%/50% = 64C-70C in a 29C ambient room
