The first batch sold out. I still have one in my cart. 
There is $150 shipping cost in which case one would most likely be liable for VAT - alternatively a return ticket to Stockholm is under £50.

I've now got a close friend willing to put in 25% - which is around £1.5k. 
I'm hoping ideally when it comes to the time I could collect it from them in person.
A trip to EU can't be all that bad.

Currently there seems to be fewer than 400 machines left in the first 1200 batch.
- Would anyone in the UK (ideally) be willing to poll in some money for one unit?
- Assuming present exchange rate, $10k is equivalent to around £6.1-6.3k.
- I would be able to put upto £1.5k cash forward at the most - however I would be far more comfortable if more people could chip in.
- Assuming the $10k poll is divided into 20 parts, each would be equivalent of $500 or 150Gh/s.
- I've got one in my basket but would be more comfortable to spilt it with others.
- My location has negligible electricity cost. Meaning low management cost.
Alternatively if there is someone else looking to do this - we can host at yours.

Takes 4 months to break even.
I mean in for a penny in for a pound - better off getting a 10-20 a chip board from a dev.

I think the first chipbatches will arrive in some months. And in this month avalon will provide a free miner design. That means its possible that no developers are needed at all to create a miner. But the miners created by the developers can only be tested once they can run the miner with a chip to test it out. In 4 weeks test-chips are sent out so that miner-developers can test their miner.
What i mean... it takes some time until the chips arrive anyway. And when they arrive the miners will be ready to be created. A ETA isnt needed because of that i think.

Thats right. But i think there will be at least a month between reference design and chipdelivery. Enough time to make contracts or get the parts. And if the developers really can deliver as fast as they wish can only show the future. burnin plans 1000 units a week. I dont know if it will work out. Asic-companies very often have problems with their plans.
From burnin's thread I have found something very reassuring: He plans on doing a lot of stuff himself, but the part that is most time consuming, is contracted to another company that usually does this kind of stuff for electronics used in aviation.

How difficult it is to make an Avalon based DIY ASIC?
Do forgive me for sounding like a newbie - I tend to think of DIY as plug&play as long as you could find the right components & firmware - and I really want to know what would be the biggest challenge towards making a 50Gh/s + miner based off Avalon? Because it possible to buy Avalon based ASIC chips, it should be in theory possible for DIYers to make miners today - but is there anything preventing it from being done today?
What you could find today:
240 or 320 Avalon chips (282MH/s Avalon chips)
TP-LINK WR703N
PDU (should be easy to make?)
Extra parts: connector, fans, PSU, cooling
It's said that "communication protocol, reference board design provided in early May" for the DIYers - so basically the only thing the DIYers are waiting for is:
Control Unit (very challenging part?)

What happens if you order the mars in a couple days and they take 3-4 months to get it to you and then they switch the "predicted" price of jupiter to 12k and then say thats gonna take another 7 months?
ill tell ya what happens.. You will end up filling the sink with water and dunkin youre head in indefinitely! lolz

But now since they clearly knew the whole time they were not gonna be doing the 50ghs, you expect them to pull a switch again.
Might as well just said fek it we are taking pre orders.. lol
If i told you i was selling bio degradable penguins & i came out with a styrofoam duck would you buy it?
Pitch line: Cmon guys the abs plastic beak and feet is tough and resistant to breakage. You will be able to take a hammer to it no problem..

Look this is BFL all over again - almost a year later. FPGA are easier to do - because there are already chips out there.

I'm saying if they need upfront cost - they should be upfront about it!
No shame about it. Show us a working prototype and we'll get behind it. Be straight - if you need 10k per 250GH/s unit - say it. Don't go about this saying its about loyality, and peddle people FPGA that will be obsolete once it ships.
