Re: [ANN] CommunityCoin (COMM) Fair & FREE Distribution | Pure PoS | Join Community

Have 500 stakes been distributed already? I saw the it said so on  http://communitycoin.info/apply/
I applied yesterday and didn't receive the coins, indicating my rejection.
I just have a doubt:  there were still ~70 stakes left to hit 500 when I applied yesterday, while those stakes run away Today!
How has it happened?

I don't know what did they do to the Faircoin. I just think that COMM should be on every exchange and pay to be added to the mintpal is not so nice manner.

It's a way, but not a good one.
I think a nice coin like COMM won't need the untrustworthy exchange who cannot be helpful.

https://nxt-e.com Please could more people than just me ask this exchange to add COMM? Still voting on Mintpal too.

Dude, do you really not know about that, do you?
1. NXT-E is a scam exchange. Look at the Faircoin and you will find the conclusion.
2. NXT-E has said FAC and COMM both developed by Chinese scammers. And NXT-E won't add COMM anymore.

We shouldn't waste the time on the untrustworthy exchange.  Focus on Mintpal may be a good choice.

Re: Survey for Bitcoin users on financial/news habits

Hi guys!

Just introduced myself over in the newbie section (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=527738.msg5858320#msg5858320); I’m currently a PhD student at USC’s Annenberg School of Communication and Journalism. I’m doing some research on alternative economies and technology, and have put together a survey to understand how Bitcoin users’ habits relate to their financial, economic, and news habits outside the platform.

The survey is completely anonymous and should take about 10 mins. to complete. I’ll make the results available to anybody who’s interested in them as soon as the survey closes in early April. It's available at this link: https://usc.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_9KPy7dn2S6DPPo1

I’d like to get as wide a range of responses as possible so apologies if you see this cross-posted on a couple other forums – please feel free to share the survey link with other Bitcoin users.

Any questions, feel free to PM me or contact me directly. Thanks so much in advance for your help!

Best,

Sarah

I have filled out the questionnaire, I feel it is good, I support.

Re: I know Gold and Silver are money. Is Bitcoin money?
by

You forgot the most important property - scarcity. Gazillions of crypto 'currencies' can be created at basically no cost, having identical properties and serving the same function as bitcoin. Infinite digits on a computer screen, yeah sounds a little like the USD.
Gold on the other hand is limited in supply and unique in color, shine and other physical properties.
No other coin can be Bitcoin, though, in the same way that tungsten isn't gold. Bitcoin has its own data, its own protections, and its own rules. You can't create an infinite supply of bitcoins (that is, you can't print yourself to a higher %total ownership), and I don't think you can lump all cryptocurrencies together for the same reason we don't lump all metal together. They all have unique properties and uses.
The value of money should remain stable, but the value of bitcoins is unstable.

Re: New IRS rules for BTC as related to US Tax payers

This is really good news and or complete death of alt coins.    Nothing in between.   Hoping it is good news.  I have an accounting degree and I did my 2012 taxes based on just about exactly the rules they picked today.   Pretty much the only correct method to do them.  The business articles that mention this as a blow to miners are written for people that have no training in finance/accounting/tax law.  All necessary evils in a civilized world.

Re: My view on the future of Crypto Currencies
by

In the long term, there must be one or several of the best digital encryption currency is widely accepted by the market.
In my view the best shot at crypto dominance is a easy to use coin that is fast and secure. It will need to be a PoW/PoS hybrid with an Android app that can mint new coins and has large community devoted to it's development.

The only alt I know about that is anywhere near being that is MINT. And at under 20 satosh right now it's a hell of a bargain. There's no completed android app as of yet but there will be soon enough. It's being developed now.

So what would you if you had immense power by controlling the world's central banks and then suddenly Bitcoin comes along and threatens to take away all your power?
Sit around and do nothing?
I won't sit here and do nothing.
Seriously, it matters a lot if you are looking to make a huge investment. If you break it into pieces, remember what you buy today has an extremely good chance of being higher within a year or two (or much sooner)

Maybe, but anyway discussing with religious types is kind of tiresome,
as their path of progress is towards ignorance.
Anyway who cares. The wear on my keyboard was light.

How bitcoin could stop Hitler and the second World War?  Cheesy
Make no mistake, this technology will help humanity transcend the need for both bloody revolutions and bloody wars.

It is absolutely a step in the right direction, away from the dominance of the nation-state and toward empowering the individual.

Re: Did the IRS make a big Loophole mistake? WHOOPS!!!!

If they are going to treat it as property, how would mined coins by a company set up as a corporation be treated?  My impression is that per the IRS's position, bitcoins mined would be the same as a the creation of a product you create/produce for sale but does not sell. It becomes on the shelf inventory, and there is no taxable event until it sells. This applies to all companies that make products through a process, hard materials or digital.  If you own a software application, or a script (plugin) you developed, and sell it for $50 per copy, and make 1000 copies on CDROM, you don't owe the IRS taxes on the copies until they sell. It's all 1s and 0s, so what difference is there between using computers to create scripts or plugins or software, or bitcoins? All property right? You just have to view it from a manufacturing standpoint.  And the fact that they have ruled it is property, the manufacturing stance would in my opinion apply. Manufacturing being the creation of something tangible "property" from the use of labor, machines, raw materials, and energy resources.  So you mine the coins, put them on paper wallets as inventory to sell. But hold them... For sale at a later date, which would be taxable.  You'd have to set up an s-corp to do this, or is my thinking way off??
If they are going to treat it as property, how taxes will be irs difficulties!

I don't think GPU drilling opportunities bring you many benefits, we advice to you is my own opinion, you need to consider carefully.
I think GPU drilling can bring many benefits, of course, the idea is not the same for everyone!

I think $500 is pretty much the bottom. Good time to buy.

That's just my 2 satoshis though.
The only people who can do that right now are Satoshi and Keeples
Possibly Pirate and Tradefortess but the first two are unlikely to do that
Satoshi since why would he now
Keeples can't being watched to much

ust like central banks back their currency's exchange rate on forex exchanges, bitcoin is also backed by numerous miners and supporters on exchanges, no more other backing is needed, those who understand its true value will back it with fiat money on exchanges

Re: Town of Darrington, WA (hit by the mudslide last week) is accepting BTC donation
by
mycoin25
on 29/03/2014, 01:39:29 UTC
How can I confirm this is legitimate?  It looks OK, but I am always suspicious of 0-activity newbie posts asking for donations (no offence!).

I completely understand your apprehension, I've been around the BTC community long enough to know that people are wary of fake charities. The best confirmation I can give you is that the link is on the official town website. I did not set this up. My good friend is from Darrington and is the son of one of the main project coordinators. He went through a lot of hoops to get this link on the official site. He is working on getting the coinbase account linked to the main bank account (so we can have direct USD conversion), but Coinbase ignored requests to help us speed the process up. For now, he controls the keys, so you do have to trust him. Just know this is a very small town where everyone knows everyone. If he ran off with funds they would know (considering he had to contact the mayor to get this on the town site). And I would be very pissed at him. He just wants to help the town.
So charities must prove that they are legitimate!
