Re: Why Bitcoin is Superior to Precious Metals

He should have purchased from a reputable dealer or performed an assay. This doesn't mean Bitcoin is "superior" to precious metals. With silver, I can hold a tangible currency in my hand, trade it without Internet connectivity, etc. I can't lose it due to data corruption or a virus, and if I want, I can melt it down into something useful.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for Bitcoin, but it has its ups (e.g. can't counterfeit them) and downs just like anything else. Both have their place.

In the end, silver is money (i.e. a store of value) and Bitcoin is a currency (i.e. a convenient means of exchange).

5 BTC for web design? You mean hourly right?

I think he means the visual design and only the visual design starting for 5 BTC. You still need to code it in HTML/CSS, which is where the hours would come in.

In my experience, the visual design actually takes longer than the HTML/CSS (I can slice a PSD and make clean, compliant code for an entire site in like 8 hours). It's sort of a whole process, and definitely more valuable than the equivalent of $65 worth of Bitcoins. I'd be very surprised if it was 5 BTC total and not per hour.

If you think about it, you need an index page, level 1 page, and possibly other types of pages depending on what CMS your site uses, if any. Colors need to match, a navigation scheme needs to be chosen, link hover properties, etc. The whole user experience and functionality needs to be factored in when developing the design. It's a lot of work Undecided

The other question is, what kind of support does OP provide? Can I call up and discuss my needs on the phone prior to development of the template? Is there a feedback/revision process included in that price? And so on.

.01 btc/minute = $7.8/hour. If I pay you for 10 hours, will you videotape yourself praying out loud for 10 hours straight and post it to YouTube?

Yes.  Yes I will.  Though you're really gonna make me use my TB harddrive aren't you.  Wouldn't that take like 10 hours to upload to YouTube?

Luckily, uploading is a passive task Smiley Maybe you could SCP it to me to minimize the effort and I can split and YouTube it Wink

If someone sold Bitbills (http://bitbills.com/) via PayPal and used some kind of certified mail service, would that allow them to accept PayPal payments for Bitcoins without getting scammed?

Re: Whitelist Requests (Want out of here?)

I'd like to be whitelisted as well. Although I only have a few posts, I think they are indicative of my non-spamminess. One of my posts was with a technical problem about Bitcoin. I was trying to post another one today but am restricted to the Newbies section. I'm a software developer and have a strong desire to contribute to the development of Bitcion.

Additionally, I provide web development services and accept Bitcoin as a currency. By being restricted to this section, I'm unable to effectively promote this service and thus encourage the expansion of Bitcoin as a currency. In fact, I'd suggest finding a better way of dealing with spam than this, as it is going to severely dampen the exchange of Bitcoins for goods and services, much of which occurs through this forum.

I also advocate for Bitcoin on Youtube and via social media. When people ask questions such as "How do I know the creators of Bitcoin won't just make a bunch of them and get free money?" I am able to answer and go into some depth on the cryptographic and technical implementation details of why Bitcoin is resistant to these things. Not only this, but I'm able to present it in a manner that the average Joe can understand--something that is unfortunately lacking in the Bitcoin world. In fact, I just ordered a 1080p webcam today in hopes of starting a Youtube channel that may make Bitcoin more palatable to the average non-technical user.

In short, I'm not a newbie, please whitelist me Smiley

I have about 10 years of PHP development experience. I've made applications that range from custom content management systems to web-based medical applications that interface with embedded devices such as heart monitors. I also have experience writing plugins and modifications for PhpBB, Wordpress, and other popular PHP-driven web utilities.

Send me a message if you're interested in a quote.

For 1.5 BTC/hour, I'll convert your website to Wordpress or slice a PSD template you provide and make it into a Wordpress template.

Here's a couple samples of work I've done in the past:

hxxp://uwddemos.com/windyridge/
hxxp://silvercoinsadvisor.com/
hxxp://www.golddealers.com/
hxxp://www.goldseminumismatic.com/
hxxp://www.dnbreputationmanagement.com/ (I know the bullets under "Additional Articles" are messed up--client did that after the fact)

Message me if you're interested in a quote.

crashes on startup
by

I'm running Windows 7 64-bit edition. I installed Bitcoin yesterday and have it set to start up automatically when I log in to my machine. When it starts, I get a series of three error messages, each spawning after I close the previous one. I think it may have been caused by Bitcoin crashing when my computer randomly lost power. Anyway, I thought the developers may be interested in this and there was no Bugtraq, so I'm posting it here.

Any attempts to manually start Bitcoin are met with the same errors.
