Maybe I'm confused but if you have less than 10 bitcoin, what is the point of not just putting on Blockchain.info?  I mean is it really worth it for that small of an amount, time the possibly of being hacked worth it for such a small figure?

Not sure if you're trolling but I personally wouldn't trust any of my bitcoin to blockchain.info. Their blockexplorer slowed to a halt during the recent stress test and was vulnerable to spoofed transactions until it was exposed a few weeks ago. It's also generally not a good idea to keep many bitcoins in a hot wallet of any kind: mobile, online or desktop.

It's really not that hard to create and use paper wallets and costs next to nothing if you have a printer as has been pointed out countless times in this thread.

Re: How many of you feel ashamed for recommending Bitcoin to family & friends?

I would never feel ashamed of talking about Bitcoin, I don't however tend to tell many people about it due to it's complexity and my bad explaining skills Tongue

If I were to explain it to someone I would be sure to point out it's current volatility and that is the main reason I have refrained from telling a few of my café / restaurant owning friends about bitcoin; I would hate for the price to drop on them just after starting to accept it. I did convince my father to buy a few in 2013 when the price was hovering around $250-300 and he then sold some off when the price peaked. He's not the most tech savvy person but he keeps an eye on the bitcoin price and I let him know when it's a good time to buy; so far he is the only person I have shown how to use and buy bitcoin.

Right now I use paper wallets for the same reasons as many here: they're cheap and low tech, read hard to hack if generated properly. However if I had a larger number of bitcoins and used them more regularly then I would get a hardware wallet; probably not a trezor due to the price but most likely a ledger wallet.

Another advantage of paper wallets is their simplicity, there's pretty much nothing that can go wrong with them and using a mobile wallet such as mycelium or breadwallet all it takes is a few taps and scanning a QR code. Along with the fact that there's nothing going on in the background: using and redeeming them is manual where there are very few opportunities to be hacked.

[VENDO] Componentes minero
by

Hola Todos!

Vendo las piezas que me quedan de mi minero. Son los siguientes:
  • Placa Base ASRock 970 Extreme4
  • Fuente OCZ ModXStream 600w
  • CPU AMD Sempron 145 2.8GHz
  • 3 Risers PCI-e 16x a 16x 20cm
  • 1 Riser PCI-e 16x a 1x 20cm

I'm not sure if it will be relevant now as Phonetic hasn't been online on this forum since the 30th December but shouldn't the forum's admins have a log of the IP address' that was used to log into his account?
Even if we do get that he will most likely be hiding behind a VPN or Proxy, but it's worth a try.

Hope we can get somewhere with this, I personally lost over 200k to this pool, but I know others who have lost more.

I say we backtrack the payments to this guy's wallet address. Then figure out where all the coins are going. Maybe even Cryptsy will cooperate if this guy is indeed dumping them on the market. This actually shouldn't be too hard to accomplish.

Also I sent Phonetic a nice PM but he's ignored me and seems he's ignoring everyone else too. It's to the point where I think he really just might be a scammer. I want to believe it's just a mistake but in that case he'd be in here to reassure us right? I hate throwing around accusations but enough time is passing that it feels warranted. Is he really comfortable doing this to people? How do people like this rationalize their actions? I mean hell it's not like he closed the pool and ran off with whatever was left in accounts, he's still actively gaining coins off the miners still on the pool with a message from days ago about payout 'will be fixed soon' but not a single word since.

Sounds like an interesting idea, I'm quite new to mining so not sure how much of a help I could be, but I have over 200k stuck in that pool. I setup auto payouts as soon as I changed to a different pool. lesson learned. Anyways I'd be happy to help if I can in any way.

I'm having issues too, not sure if it's just me but the website seems fine, even though my miner keeps defaulting to my backup pool.

Mining Newbie here too. Bought a bitcoin earlier in the year, at the peak of the first value jump and thought I would never get my money back. How wrong I was!!! Just last week I started mining digitalcoin's and now Dogecoins! Cryptocurrencies are quite a crazy world, but I'm glad to be part of it!!

Good luck to all you fellow newbie miners
