Do you actively develop the library?

I haven't been, I'm currently working on another bitcoin-related project for the time-being.

If I make kits available the only tools you'd need are a hammer and a screw driver.

I might be interested, contingent upon price of course Smiley

BTW, this is super badass, great job!

Library API and internal design are arcane with all this poor man's encapsulation using properties starting with _ and misuse of getters, prototypes and closures, but it's 0.0.1 and I hope we will get it ironed out over time.

Please expand on this issue.

Re: High Frequency Trading—The Age of Volatility Has Arrived (podcast)

You need Fill-Or-Kill (FOK) orders for HFTs, only one exchange allows for that, and it's CampBX.

I'm still not sure why the exchanges decided to follow the current model of the markets, it just means we will end up with the same semi-corrupt system where the big players make price and everyone else can only rarely override that decision on price (Darkpools etc).  To boot, as I just said, in the real world you can find Darkpools via FOK orders, but we have a situation where you aren't able to do this on every exchange that offers them save for CampBX.  I've only been able to spot one once, and it was a complete fluke.

Can't you essentially simulate a FOK order with a competent trading tool? Read market depth, initiate trade if depth exists?

Granted, I've not done the basics here and read up on the technical definition of FOK, so feel free to tell me to STFU.

If you're serious about doing some HFT, it takes too long to do that currently. By the time you read, parse, and try to execute a trade based on that data, it might have changed already. So you need to be able to place an order and have it killed immediately if it's not executed.

[ANN] Bitcoin Exchange API for node.js
by
naturallaw
on 16/07/2011, 22:46:14 UTC
I've just released the first version of a new API for interacting with Bitcoin exchanges for node.js. I've been using it for a couple weeks now and it seems to work pretty well, but no guarantees.

Goal:
The purpose of this project is to provide a robust enough interface to interact
with Bitcoin exchanges (in whatever way that might be) without going into things
that necessarily should be customized such as trading bot strategies.

Current Features:
  • Mostly written for compatibility with Mt Gox API
  • Known to work with: Mt Gox, TradeHill, Bitcoin7 (via ExchangeB7 class), ExchangeBitcoins
  • Check Account Balance in USD and BTC
  • Place Buy and Sell Orders
  • Find out the cost (USD) to buy a given amount of BTCs (including trade fee) on an exchange
  • Find out the gain in selling a given amount of BTCs (including trade fee) on an exchange

Install:
Code:
npm install btc-ex-api

PDO requires PDO and PECL, that's already alone dirtiest than dirt can be.  Wink

PHP 5.1.0 and newer comes with PDO already.

Hi M'Tux,

Yes, to go live on internet with this system I intend to create some modules, changing passwords to SHA, enforce SSL and add captchas to prevent brutteforcing.

About SQLi, vars are passed this way:

Even though your way is secure (as long as you remember to call your function on all the values) I'd recommend using prepared statements with PDO, much cleaner and safer. Take a look on the PHP manual for more info.

EDIT: 1.86164% anually. So the gov has been honest about inflation rates. That is, if you consider gold a real store of value and not a qet rich quick.

LOL no, the gov is not honest about inflation rates.  You just missed a decimal place.

The CPI on the Alternate Data Series tab here reflects the CPI as if it were calculated using the methodologies in place in 1980. In general terms, methodological shifts in government reporting have depressed reported inflation, moving the concept of the CPI away from being a measure of the cost of living needed to maintain a constant standard of living.

Re: How do you feel about market regulation?
by
naturallaw
on 12/07/2011, 20:08:51 UTC
The market will regulate itself, we can't stop stupid people from being stupid unfortunately. We will see better exchanges, Mt Gox's days I feel are numbered, unless they can step up their game. Although, ironically, I think one barrier to stopping Bitcoins from really taking off (the other just being the immaturity of the market) is the threat of government regulation. Why would an established legitimate business adopt Bitcoins if there is any threat from government regulation or outright outlaw. Sure, they can't stop Bitcoin from operating undercover, but they can stop those with business licenses from using it.

Re: Bitcoin Loans and Lending; The Weakness in The Bitcoin Economy
by

I think this is something that makes Bitcoin more suitable for equity, rather than debt investments. As the Bitcoin economy matures, it will also become easier to hedge against currency exchange fluctuations through the use of futures and such (this already exists for Bitcoins).

Re: Tobin Tax. Anyone want to help me build the Tobin Tax website?

In my system though, there would be job-retraining programs and massive public works and research programs as there is no shortage of these things that need to be done.

The economy has already been screwed up from government intervention, capital must shift away from things like student loan debt, housing, service sector. Yes the repeal of Glass-Stegal, while keeping the government-backed FDIC insurance was a major factor in allowing the leverage and bubble to form.

See, in your system, we would just shift the money to the already-in-a-bubble education system, temporary employment measures, and more government bureaucrats (often just as parasitic as the finance industry). The free market is already shifting back to an almost-forgotten-system of apprenticeship. I can't think of anything that would fuel real job-creation more than the spirit of entrepreneurship through apprenticeship.

First of all how is anything to do with being 'entrepreneurial' related to taxation and regulation?  History provides testament argument against your second statement.  Mass movements are never easy but they only happen for those 'foolish' enough to believe they can change the system.

Entrepreneurship and taxes/regulations are often at odds with each other. Taxes and regulations are barriers where you often need to seek legal professionals for compliance help and is a barrier to market capital wise and effort wise. They often create a protection "moat" around your established competition as well.

Re: Jully Nullification
by

Personally, I believe that in an ideal world, jury nullification would be a serious evil. However, our world has some massively screwed up laws, and refusing to enforce a bad law is a virtue.

Jury nullification is meant to protect people from "screwed up" laws, abusive laws, and these types of loopholes. I think it is meant to give an error-prone human component to it. I think jurors should be able to challenge the morals of a law. I think I agree with you on reverse jury-nullification though, this is like passing a retroactive law that throws people in jail.
