Yes I like it too because cryptopia withdrawal fee is very low, I see now only 0.0001 BTC for Bitcoin withdrawals.

I think you can guide them install  some app like bitpay and send for them 0.005-0.01 BTC and guide them pay online; I think they will love to use crypto that way.

So sad when sometime MEW get hacked, I see many people lost ETH and altcoin don't know why, really careful when login ETH, remember check
Install EAL or MetaMask or Cryptonite by Metacert or the MyEtherWallet Chrome Extension to block malicious websites.

I had the same issue. I had to create gplay.conf file and add the following nodes:

I don't remember where I got them, but for me it fixed the issue.

open run from window with command                         %APPDATA%\Gplay\
next creat a file txt then paste 
addnode=45.55.89.248:24037
addnode=46.146.85.144:24037
addnode=58.92.103.158:24037
addnode=50.3.74.175:24037
addnode=89.152.239.137:24037

click file save as gplay.conf type all file then close
open wallet again then done, wallet will sync as normal
