Mining altcoins with GPUs can still be profitable (depending on how much you need to spend and your power costs), but the days of profiting from mining BTC using GPUs are over.

There are also pools like hashcows which pick the most profitable currency automatically and optionally pay out in BTC.

No you aren't missing anything - I'm not sure why they're focused on profit per coin, instead of profit overall which is the only important metric. Smiley

Because your holdings are now (probably) worth more USD and you have more BTC? I don't understand what their argument would be. If you had just held and not sold out near the top, you'd have fewer BTC.
True, they could say that you got lucky this time and shouldn't try timing in general, but that's kind of irrelevant at this point.

This is my first post, but I'm wondering if anyone has recommendations on bitcoin escrow services. I found this question http://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/241/which-bitcoin-escrow-services-are-available-and-reliable but most responses are from a while back.
