My prediction is that more Bitcoins will be lost on the Exchanges than will be lost during face-to-face transactions.

If I have some Bitcoins just sitting in my Coinbase account are they 100% safe from being hacked into ?

If I have some Devcoins just sitting in my Cryptsy or Vicurex account are they 100% safe from being hacked into ?

Are there any simple and-or min-level-strategies-guidelines to follow-employ to ensure optimal BTC-DVC-LTC security for the alt-coin-exchanges, such as proper choice of passwords and any other high-security enhancing account profile measures-methods-choices ?

I refuse to guess anymore. I think it's time the OP proves that there is in fact a number between 1-1000 and that this wasn't just a ploy to get a lot of posts or something stupid.

The OP should make some kind of statement longer than "your number is incorrect" or "good guess."

Besides, is .01-BTC really worth all this?

No more guessing... Who is with me??

Even though the OP said this:

"Will Lock Topic once winner posts the correct number."

at the beginning of the post.

You still might not might be right on your 1st suggestion.

Because, since there are 44 pages and 870 comments so far on this topic. Can we be sure that the .01-BTC prize for this contest hasn't already been given out at least one or more times and the OP just deciding to start it all over again, without announcing it on the 1st and last pages for all to easily see and not miss it.

And possibly repeating that decision to renew the contest, a 3rd, 4th, and 5th time, etc. Each time after the correct number has been chosen. And choosing a new number from between 1-1000 with each renewal of the contest ?

There are alot of pages and comments to go through in order to look for any signs of any winners being announced and prizes having been given out for this contest so far.

Now spending that much time just to find the answers to those questions are not worth the amount of time that it would take to carry it out !

Maybe the OP should announce that when the number of comments replying to this post reaches lets say 1000 comments, that a list of any and all winning numbers chosen and any prizes that have already been given out, be they none, one, two, or three, etc, will be posted-listed here for all to see !

Until then and only then will all of the questions that you and others have posted here about this pick a winning number 1-1000 .01-BTC-prize contest been answered sufficiently !

Here's a report of a face-to-face transaction gone bad.

In this instance, a person selling headphones through Craigslist was contacted and a face-to-face trade (at a McDonalds) was arranged.  Except it didn't go according to the buyer's plan and the seller left with both the headphones and the bitcoins:

I just got robbed blind of bitcoins - in person. I'm feeling like I've lost trust in the usability of the currency and looking for advice.

How did the seller get a hold of the BTC before the transaction was completed. Couldn't that kind of situation have been easily avoided ?

By the buyer sitting down with the seller in a safe open public area with lots of other people around such as inside the McDonalds restaurant.

And then releasing the payment of BTC to the seller through a laptop computer right then and there only after the transaction was completed.

I highly doubt someone hasn't guessed the number yet.

Yes it seems strange Smiley but there is possibility that no one yet guessed it Smiley

If someone gets the right number doesn't the contest just begin again ?

This:

dvcn-qt-29-Nov-2012.tgz

wallet was mentioned on this forum and can be downloaded from here:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/galacticmilieu/files/DeVCoin

What is that dvcn-wallet all about, it has lots of folders and files not included in the dvcn-exp-w32 (dec-2013-bld) or 0.3.25.1-bt, vrsns.

Go to http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=devcoin and try those.

What I meant to say was:

I am using the dvcn-exp-w32 (dec-2013-bld) wallet, which just by chance I found in one of the posts on this forum.

It is basicly the same or similar (possibly-updated in some ways) to the dvcn-wallet-vrsn found at devcoin.com and devtome.com, which is the 0.3.25.1-bt vrsn.

1) I had noticed the term dvcn-qt-wallet being used here and there on this forum.

2) Also just by chance I was reading on this forum in a post about another kind of dvcn-wallet-vrsn called: dvcn-qt-29-Nov-2012.tgz,

3) so I downloaded it from here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/galacticmilieu/files/DeVCoin

just to compare it to the other 2 dvcn-wlt-app vrsns mentioned above.

4) When I opened up the dvcn-qt-11-29-12-apps folders it had alot of folders and files not found in the other 2 versions mentioned above.

So I was just asking you what that differently configured kind of dvcn-qt-wallet was used for, because it has "qt" which stands for windows" in the name and I am using a "windows-os" to run the dvcn-wlt-app.

And it has so many other kinds of folders and files that are not found in the other 2 dvcn-wlt vrsns mentioned above.

Its main folder is named: devcoin-qt.

The only folders-files that were the same were the "receiver files 1-17.csv" listed in the main folder.

I was just checking out the dvcn-qt-11-29-12 version while I was looking for the best "pre-configured-w32-dvcn-wlt-app" available. Dvcn-qt was in the apps name so I just checked it out to see if it was the "elusive best dvcn-wlt-w32-vrsn to use," that I was looking for.

If "dvcn-qt or just "dvcn" by itself was not in that apps name I never would have downloaded it to check out what it was and most likely wouldn't have needed to ask you about it, "what is it for, what does it do."

This:

dvcn-qt-29-Nov-2012.tgz

wallet was mentioned somewhere on this forum, so I downloaded it from here:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/galacticmilieu/files/DeVCoin

just to check out if it was the "elusive" best standard dvcn-wlt-vrsn that I was looking for.

What is that dvcn-wallet all about, it has lots of folders and files not-found-included in the dvcn-exp-w32 (dec-2013-bld) or 0.3.25.1-bt, vrsns and vice-versa.

There were no same named folders and the "only same files" were the receiver files, 1-17.csv, listed in the main folder: devcoin-qt.

Now that I've installed the dvcn wallet with all files downloaded, blocks are listed at over 127k, how can I test that it's fully working, being able to send and receive dvcns ?

If you have an account somewhere for devcoins or a trading account ie cryptsy or vircurex you can create an account and a deposit address...

You first need to buy devcoins by transfering in bitcoins to these exchanges and then buying devcoins for them. Then you can withdraw the coins to your qt wallet address you get in your recieve tab in qt..

You should get them in a few hours tops.

You can turn qt wallet on to check balance if its synced up to network, then it only has to dl latest blocks.

If I shut down the regular-dvcn-app-0.3.25.1-beta and start it again, doesn't it also start off counting blocks again at the block# it was at right before it was  closed the last time, at least above 127,000, where it's at now ?

"What is the qt-wallet," I noticed it on a download site as a recommended dvcn-app to download while I was looking for the most up to date dvcn-wallet-app.

I ended up downloading and installing this one:

dvcn-exp-w32-stp.exe (dec-2013-bld), which is similar to 0.3.25.1-bt-vrsn.

Is the qt-wallet the best of the dvcn wallets to download and run ?

Can it take the place of the dvcn-exp-w32, 0.3.25.1-bt-vrsns, while also being able to do a whole lot more ?

In order to see what it's all about can I dnld and run the qt-wallet at the same time as the dvcn-exp-w32, 0.3.25.1-bt-vrsns. Does the qt-wallet use a different UI-window so that both apps can be run at the same time without interfering with eachother ?

Can you help sort this out, I have the standard-dvcn-wallet-app running, I have not downloaded and am not running the qt-wallet.

The low BTC price at mtgx is very misleading unless you read into why they're selling BTC so low, because there are hassles and risks involved if you buy it from them.

For investment purposes, can you predict that and when Bitcoin will start rising towards and above its 2013 high value and continue in that direction. Such as because of an increasing need for its use and popularity amongst people from all countries.

I have 4 1k mb ram, which yields around 3.5 gb ram, but with browsers and different apps running at the same time, the cpu meter on my wxp-pc is up to 100% way too often.

I want to upgrade the cpu on this pc from amd-dl-cr-3500 to amd-dl-cr-5600, would that help keep the cpu meter level stay lower more of the time, with similar use of the pc ?

"For one, you add to the list of clients that provide confirmations to the network."

Does that mean that running it helps in the efforts of speeding up the mining of Bitcoins and Devcoins, which involves completing of blocks ?

So far I've been running the dvcn-app all the time.

"When it's open, you assist the network."

I just set up the app 1 week ago and reinstalled it again yesterday, but this time correctly. That's why I'm asking you, "how does anyones personal computer help assist the network by running the app ?"

How does that work ?
