the first thing i control on an ICO is the team.
who has a fake ICO tends not to post any update about the team, with no links to profiles like linkedin, facebook or so on
the second thing i see is the whitepaper and the quality of the project. the scam ones tend to be vague.
the third thing is the communications of the team, the time to respond to questions and so on.

for the bottom price it has now, and for the implementation of the Constantinople protocol, probably ETH can be the best investment for me. but seems it will still take a while to see the results.

at the beginning using telegram was quite easy and helpful for getting news, being updating, trading and following the projects i liked. Lately i have found myself on channels that are only scam, absolutely useless and so i do not feel safe to trade on telegram since i do not have any security on the trading.
i have been using Binance, kraken and Kucoin moinstly. tried poloniex and hyobi as well, but the first three i find myself more comfortable.
to do the cash out i use Coinbase Pro with has less, almost no fees, of course, any platform has pro and contra and you have to try and find the one you feel better

until now, for 9 months, i have been using Coinbase and i have found myself quite comfortable. i have had no problems either with the in transactions nor with the out transactions. the process of withdraw has been safe and easy. i have to say i am not from USA, so maybe that can be a problem to some.
at the beginning i had the problem with the high fees, but after discovering the Gdax (the actual Coinbase Pro) i can do trading and withdraws with no fees. and for sending money to my bank account it is easy. i have tried gemini as well but i had some issues with it. i tried bitfinex as well, but it took me two months just to register, so i did not used it anymore.

probably who opened the thread has no intention to do more than bounty, but the explanation is useful to me,

soft cap and hard cap seem to low, which can mean the team is not aiming to be a scam.

this an one-year-old topic, so probably i am not adding anything new, but i have invested in some ICOs at the beginning, and have seen those ICOs with full working products, so i do not think every ICO is a Scam. it is very hard to find the valid one, that is true. but there are some worth the research of course

when i was back in high school, on the first day our literature teacher opened the lesson by saying: art is developed by fighting itself. back then it seemed like a stupid phrase to me. now i think we can use that phrase to every kind of progress. the old will always fight the new, and the new will improve the old technology. and by this fight, the best can come out

it is amazing to find a three year topic still realistic. ETH is considered the future for a lot of us in here, somehow BTC is still up there, showing the other altcoins from the Olymp

i think it is the right time to but some ETH. the Constantinople update can lead to the real success of ETH

i would add NEO to those two as well. the "problem" with ADA is that it is still getting implemented and we have not tested it yet. and with the main net they can surprise a lot of us. compared to the price of the token, as for now ADA has a bigger potential of growth

it is a hard choice right now. and not just for the possibility to lose all of my money, but for the possibility to use them on my own need. banks leave you the possibility to have more chooses to spend them in the way for like more. on the other hand you are more controlled and subject to taxes/fees. but i think until crypto becomes more used, i am dividing half and half on both of them

maybe it is not the crypto making the people go crazy, but the "gold" opportunity that they find to it. of course it is never the solution. but like with the european people living to america searching for gold, going all in for someone right now is like finding their personal mine of gold

everything can happen. and i wish that 20 bucks can turn to 100k. but the most important thing is to get the technology wellknown and used for everyday cases. that will be the real win
