Re: Are you holding your bitcoin for a price increase?

I am not a deep pockets holder, but I have enough to get excited if the price were to shoot up in the next few years.  I already spent what I am going to spend with BTC for now.  I am probably 50-100% ahead of my time/electric/hardware bills due to mostly being in the right place at the right time.  I might spend here and there on little things but mostly I just hold.  I am up now, so if it goes to zero I am still up.  If it goes massive then I can buy all the little things later.  If I die I will just pass it on to family and they can use it as they wish.

[WTS] Natural Homemade Beauty Products

My cousin has been working part time on a business making and selling homemade beauty products in her spare time.  She has been mostly selling through local fairs and community events but recently moved to a larger home where she can increase the volume of production a bit.  She also recently updated her website to accept bitcoin as a form of payment.

I have personally used most of the various products and have been impressed with them from a quality level.  My wife and other ladies also really enjoy the products.  They seem to be reasonably priced for what you get, but I am not an expect in that area Smiley

So if you are considering getting your spouse or friends a gift (possibly with bitcoin) check them out.  They ship from Pennsylvania.

Glad to see this thread resurrected - I haven't made much progress with this idea in the past year but it has been something I think about frequently.  Utilization of a blockchain for faster payment, accurate billing, and potential storage of medical records (something to make it accessible by all, but private to the individual and that person's providers) would be large improvements.  Certainly in a place like the USA, there would have be larger changes happening to make this effective, but as others mentioned in smaller countries where there is less regulation and red tap the possibilities for integration into crypto technologies could be a huge win.

Thanks for sharing - I put these both up on Facebook.

To another poster's point, the readership of twitter/reddit/facebook are quite different from those reading something like the NYTimes.  Not sure if we could rally the funds but it would make a very large impact on many people in a way that social media can't penetrate right now.

At least in the U.S., one of the primary problems with healthcare is the lack of a real market for the products and services. Since the tax code provides that health insurance premiums are considered pre-tax, most people have their insurance through their employers. Thus most purchasers of insurance don't directly know the premium being paid and evaluate it against the benefits received.

The apparent cost of bottom dollar coverage, like only paying $20 for your $100 primary care visit, is reduced, and so people pay to insure things that wouldn't normally be insured. They also don't tend to know the true cost of the visit, the lab tests that are ordered, the medicines, etc. In such a market, of course the price of everything goes up and up.

The question I am puzzling over is, how could bitcoin break that cycle and put price incentives back?

It would probably need to start outside of the USA first and then after proving successful we could work it in here.  Other issues with USA is the HIPAA and the legal requirement for information to be private.  Some type of blockchain record of my frequent Dr visits are off putting to some/many right now.  Many other countries don't have the same laws or hangups about that stuff, so it would be easier to start somewhere else.  This could have amazing potential in countries where there is little or no healthcare.  There is a surprising amount of people who have smartphones in relatively undeveloped parts of the world.

This idea is kind of like a snowball effect - once it takes hold somewhere, it will take off Smiley

How about the fact that Google confirmed they are not working on incorporating Bitcoin as a payment method?  Of course if it is anything like Google confirming they are not interesting in buying Waze, things could turn around in a few weeks...  Smiley

Storage likely isn't going to be the issue as that traditionally has trended larger and larger.  Bandwidth on the other hand is more likely to be the real issue.  Most Internet connections haven't jumped up in speed over the past few years and unless some miracle happens for more people it will probably be the same speed in 4 years.  On top of that, more and more ISPs are instituting data caps on a monthly basis with insane overage costs.  Many of us who have been running a client all along won't feel the pain, but any new individual or business that is serious about setting something up will have to navigate the challenge of downloading the blockchain.

I like the idea of purchasing a multi-terabyte hard drive with a recent copy of the blockchain on it.  Plug it in, run a MD5 hash program on it to verify that it is legit and then only have to do a few months of catch up instead of 9 years...

You might be able to get someone to sell you their K16 Klondike miner...  Those are 4.5gh/s and a few people may want to try and sell since they are small time.  I have one, but am not selling Smiley

This is purely around price.  There are no publicly available or widely used ASIC scrypt devices in play.  Before the price went insane, LTC mining was slightly profitable (I have had a few cards hashing for a while) but with the price going up so much there seemed to be a much better ROI which in turn reduced risk.  With the coin price explosion, many people all of a sudden had "extra" funds to spend and why wouldn't they if they could get ROI in 30-45 days time...

Nothing special/secret about this one Smiley

It's seem strange that the power pins next to the micro usb port won't power the fan.

I believe those are the fan headers - for controlling the fan speed.  The fan still needs to be connected to a power source to operate...

Just an update - most of the companies I wrote to haven't responded.  The few that did have a canned response along the lines of "thanks for writing us, your input is important, we will respond sometime in the next decade if this is urgent" or something similar.

Obviously I wasn't expected them to immediately write back a personal note explaining that they expect to have a system setup this week for accepting crypto currency, but I did want to reply back to the thread with an update.

To some degree this is like a squeeky wheel - the more people inquire, the higher on their list it will be to address.

While more and more people have heard of it, the total number of people involved with more than just dust in a wallet is still fairly small.  What takes things to the next level is going to be integration with current technology and process to do one or more of the following.  1.  Make it "easier" to purchase things.  2.  Save the merchant money.  3.  Make it easier to send funds to people or businesses.   When some or all of those things happen, the demand will increase sharply and thus drive the price north.

The wheel was an amazing idea, but slapping four of them around an internal combustion engine was like the best thing since sliced bread.  Same thing with Bitcoin.
