Re: MSI Gaming Z97 Motherboard - 7 PCIe slots

Were you able to run 7 GPU's on these?
Using powered risers and Linux, they should work fine. Note that I have not used these boards. I bought them with the idea of running 7 RX 470's or 480's.

I have the Asrock H81 and H97 boards and have run 4 cards on MSI GA Z97 4 slot. I might build a rig with one...its tempting.

I would not try to run 7 cards on Windows.

I have these.  No issues running 7 x RX480 on them.  You just need to edit in the BIOS to make all first three PCI-E section to Gen 1 and for the speed of the 3 x 16X slots to 8/4/4 instead of factory default for the Motherboard to be able to see all 7 slot at 1x for use with your Power Risers.

can i mine decred and sia only ... no eth .. if so can someone copy me the bat command for that
No, you can dual mine, or Eth only.  It is intended as a dual miner.  If you REALLY REALLY wanted to, you could set -ethi really low, and -dcri really high. Any reason for not wanting to dual mine?

i have nvidia cards isn't that good in eth really

the 1070 is very good instead, 1080 and 1060 i can agree they are trash

@ people who asked if Win10 support 6 and 7 GPUs.  The answer is yes and there's no 6 card hack or anything you need to do for Win10.

My 6 GPU rigs =
ASROCK H81 BTC Pro
ASROCK H97 Anniversary

My 7 GPU rig
MSI Gaming 5 ( You will need to go into the BIOS and change the PCI-E slots to Gen 1 and 8/4/4 for the 16x slots)

USB Power Riser 1x should work in all slots.  You don't need ribbons or 16 to 16x risers for the 16x slot to work.  IT work well with RX480s.  Some reason for R9 390, the 16x slot can be problematic.

What is the best setting for 1070 for dual mining.  I bought an Asus to test.  Any brand to avoid for mining??  What hash rate for Dual mining and power usage if anyone have it.

I will take 3 of them to test, kind sir Finksy.  I don't know the whole sign thing, so whenever you're ready, just PM me and I will send the payment.

P.S For those that don't know...........these IBM 4KW bundle are also awesome when paired with a small PSU for Ethereum mining.  I'm powering easily 18-24 x RX480 with just 1 x 4KW bundle.  So quiet and efficient!

mostly sapphire and several his, all with 2250 memory
i got one xfx and it died in several days with stock rom
btw you can also look at your asic quality, if it is low, then high power rom will work better and vice versa

Yeah I've seen success with MSI on another forum.    Which ASIC is considered good and which is considered bad.  My XFX is running with SAMSUNG GDDR5 memory per GPU-Z.

RX480-31.8HighPower.rom dual - ~29 eth, ~450 sia
RX480-31.8HighPower.rom single - >31 eth
RX480Mod.rom dual - ~27 eth, ~400 sia
RX480Mod.rom single >31 eth

Can you tell me which RX480 brand that you got 29 Eth and 450 SIA?  It's not stable with my XFX.  I can do the 29 Eth only for LowerPower ROM no issue.  I am testing the 30.5 MH ROM right.  Most of the RX480  (Asus, Powercolor, XFX) when on the stock ROM, I couldn't change memory to 2250+ without crashing so it could be the reason why only the ROMs with 2200 or less for memory is working for me.   I'm using the same standard ASROCK H81 Pro BTC /Celeron / Win10 like everyone else.

I have the HEAVY ROM installed which is supposed to do 31-32MH and does.  However it will crash my system after just running for 1minute every time.  This is for both solo and Dual mining both with risers and direct on the MB.  The power draw at the wall is around 160-220 watts for the RX480 depending on solo or dual mining.  Don't just look at GPU-Z as its not reporting the PCI-E draw from the riser or MB.

The powersaving ROM at 29MH seems more stable.  Using Killawatt at the wall it's pull 185-190.  Deduct 55 watts for my system to get the RX480 card use.  Pretty impressive for 29MH using 130Watts with 16.7.3 driver.  When I upgrade to 16.8.2 I get the same performance but at 15-20 more watts usage.

Will try Boysie ROM next.

Update - Same stability issues with Boysie's ROM which uses the most amount of wattage.   So far only the Powersaving 29MH ROM is stable for me.

Maybe your PCIE slot cannot support the 75W draw. You might use a powered PCIE riser to test the stability.

I think you may have missed the sentence where I mentioned I test both direct on the MB and via risers (powered).  I was chatting with other members on the Ethereum forum and it was working for them (MSI card) for over 2 days so it's something unique with my cards (XFX) perhaps since I'm using it on the same MB combo as everyone.  The Boysie ROM I was using was actually designed for XFX so I don't know what the deal is.  I even test it using a fresh new install OS, same issue.  Been running the LowPower ROM from this thread for 29MH at 130W since last night.  It works for Eth only with great power saving, it's not designed for Dual mining.  I need to get the Heavy version working as I want the highest hash rate for dual mining.

Could use these FAN mount soon.  Been waiting almost a year for them.  I'm still using ADHESIVE TAPE.   Where are we on this FINKSY?

P.S I can testify that Finksy 4KW Bundle is the real deal.  I use many of them purchased thru him and his partners for both Bitcoin mining and now Ethereum mining.  Finksy, you can contact HolyScot if you need the 6 pin to 8 pin adapter as well as risers that can be supported by your server PSU 6pin cable.  This makes your bundle the ultimate solution for both Bitcoin mining and Ethereum GPU mining.  I'm currently powering over 60 GPUs using combination of a baby ATX PSU for the motherboard and power riser and the 4KW PSU for the GPU themselves, works very well.

Does this ROM work for all Reference RX480 8GB cards?  I see some reference to Powercolor not working?  Also what is the latest tested Step by step process to get this working?  I see quite a bit of trial and error from the history but I'm not sure which 1 is the best practice to follow by after all the experienced gain from the testing.  Thanks.

Dont even set to set anything for -dcri, defaults works just fine.  If you just dual mine without any option and set your RX480 memory to 9000 via ASUS, you should get over 24-25MH plus good amount of SIA.  For best performance, don't do power savings.

Just bought this software and it's by far the best money spent!!!  I'm using it for GPU mining and the fact that I can switch pool for all my miners to mine different coins in second is just too damn amazing without using expensive high fee online services.  Loving this tool and the interface.  The support from Patrik is awesome as well.  Now I can control all my Miners from 1 interface vs teamview in to look at each 1 separately, this is too awesome.

what for a mainboard have 7 ore more PCI-E slots?

Yes there are MB that have 7 PCI-E and also you can buy 1 to 3 PCIE hub as well.  So if it can support more than 6 GPUs, I can push even more GPUs per MB/CPU/SSD combo.
