Defect in the hardware vs. a mistake in how it was assembled. 

I personally wouldn't be comfortable with any long-term use over 80C.

Heat and over-volting the core would be the prime longevity concerns.

Under ten minutes.  Judging by the recent trends in hashing power of the entire network, a significant amount of hardware isn't currently online and yet these still sell out in a flash.
