It's a scam. One thing they might do is "accidentally" send you a much higher amount of money they they originally mentioned. You would see the pending transaction in your account and assume that what they are saying is true. They'd ask you to send it back, and seeing that the transaction is in progress they're hoping you do, but in reality it was a bad transaction. They've tricked you into giving money to them, and their faulty transaction never goes through, leaving you out however much money you sent, and scammed.

Before all of y'all start complaining and making a billion new topics about being demoted, read this announcement from theymos. Essentially:

Due to excessive garbage-posting, you now need 1 merit to be a Jr Member. All existing Jr Members who didn't meet the requirement were demoted. Also, newbies can no longer set any signature or personal text.

It's not super difficult to get one merit. Make decent posts that add something to the conversation rather than just rephrasing something someone else has already said. Also, if you're concerned about any bounties you were in that had a rank requirement, talk to your bounty manager about seeing if they will still give you credit for your work.

Finally, don't beg for or buy merits. I can understand that this is frustrating for a lot of you guys, but there's no reason to risk your account for just one merit.

And for those of us that have merits to send, please keep this in mind:

I encourage people to give merit to posts that are objectively high-quality, not just posts that you agree with.

You may not agree with everything someone says, but try to look into the effort behind the posts. It will encourage those who are at least trying to make decent posts to continue posting in the future. Spend some time in the patrol section and look for posts to give merit to.

It is difficult to receive a Merit from members who have merit. If I say that there are many people selling their merit, do you believe it? .There are people who post hundreds of content but they do not receive any merit.

And you're not likely to receive a merit from members who have merit if your "content" is mostly bounty posts.

Don't forget to also update the merit & rank requirement page. There's going to be a ton of people who come asking/complaining about it regardless, but having the accurate info is important

See this thread. Depending on who the bounty manager is, they may decide to still give you credit for your posts, but it just depends. You may want to ask them about it. In the future, focus on making better posts though. One merit isn't super difficult to achieve as long as you put a little bit of though into your posts.

Is there a way to search for hero or higher members with at least 10 merit and make that a list to follow?

Don't all hero+ members have at least 10 merit anyway? Or are you meaning 10 merits in addition to the initial merit?

Re: Is there a field that blockchain is not necessary?
by

on 22/08/2018, 07:43:53 UTC
You could say that blockchain isn't really "necessary" in any field at all. If you think about it, most, if not all, fields were getting along fine before blockchain came along. However, this is not to say that there aren't practical or useful applications of the technology, that make different aspects of life/society/etc. better. For example, blockchain technology can be used for smart contracts, transparency in supply chains, fraud-free elections, and of course financial things such as cryptocurrencies and decentralized exchanges.

Re: ICO's success is just getting listed in an exchange or more than it?
by
nkampala
on 21/08/2018, 18:39:40 UTC
Being listed on an exchange means nothing if the project is shit. The coin needs to be practical, have a good purpose, the project needs to be sustainable for the future, and there needs to be a user base for it. Many ICOs lack one or more, and that's why you see lots of coins/tokens get dumped once it hits an exchange.

The bottom line is that you have to make decent posts. They need to at least be well thought out, relate to the discussion, and have good grammar. The one sentence posts you've been making are not going to get merit. It doesn't have to be perfect English, but people need to be able to understand what you're saying. If English isn't your native language, go to your local boards.

Avoid posting in the altcoin discussion section, or in any megathreads for that matter. There's a lot of spam there, and even if you were to make a good post (which is doubtful, considering your post history), it would get buried by other crappy posts.

Don't beg for merits, or pm people asking for merits or anything like that. Also don't buy merits.

And don't make a thread about merits in Meta.

I mean, a lot of it just boils down to "read the rules and don't be dumb". I guess that's hard for some people though...

Just going to quote the rules/FAQ, might give you an explanation to your problem/rant:

Q: Someone insulted me. Why aren't you deleting his post/thread?
A: Possible (since we don't have the time or resources to check) insults are also allowed as long as they contain any kind of constructive opinion, info or something else substantial and aren't off-topic. For example, posting something like "you are dumb" will be deleted as it contains no meaningful content. However, if the post is somehwere along the lines of "You are dumb. This is wrong because this website/thread/etc. has explained it's not right", it's in most cases accepted.

People are probably going to say shitty things to you on the forum, which sucks, but that's the reality. If you really think that the post violates this, you should just report it.

Let's just remember though that just because we can throw insults at each other doesn't mean we should. Let's try to be civil y'all

Make sure that your posts are constructive and not spammy. A lot of the spam on the forum comes from signature campaigns, so don't add to it. You need to also research the company/project beforehand. Make sure you're not promoting a scam, as that hurts your reputation.
