Alright so here's the current pricing in my area:

$120 for a 5770
$260 for a 5870

Should I jump into this mining boat headfirst and buy a 5870? Or is the difficulty increasing so fast it won't be worth it to recoup my investment?

Okies, I'll ask my bro to recheck prices.

I have an existing Geforce 210 card... can I still keep that in my computer for mining as well?

Assuming my motherboard fits two cards... do they have to be same card? I'm a hardware newb Smiley

I'm thinking of buying this card to mine... for about $130..

Is this a good deal? Or would there be more $ efficient cards?

Electricity usage isn't an issue.

Board CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware

This is a good place to look for stats on GPUs: http://pastebin.com/AvymGnMJ. A 4650 should expect about 33Mhash/s. In slush's pool, 1Mhash/s is about 1 share per hour, and each share is roughly .002BTC. So, a conservative estimate of 30Mhash/s would put you at mining 1.44BTC/day. Hopefully that will cover the cost of the electricity you will use mining that!

What bout a NVidia Geforce 7300? It's not listed on that page.

Also, what kind of stats would a Pentium D 2.8ghz get?

So in other words my GPU sucks Tongue If I knew about bitcoin I would've opted for a better one when I bought my computer Cheesy

Now one more question... it says my GPU supports both CUDA and OpenCL.

Which should I be using for better performance?

I've seen:

2011-02-13 03:21:33 Found Hash!
Sending to server: {"method":"getwork","params":["*censored*"],"id":1}
Server sent: {"result": true, "id": "1", "error": null}

About 5 times this hour... does that mean I found the winning hashes for 5 blocks?
eg: made the pool 5*50=250 bitcoins? :-O

That's what I was using to get those stats. The RPC CUDA miner. Should I be using OpenCL instead since GPU Caps Viewer says my card supports both?

What's the difference between the 4way and the crypto?

I'm using an Intel i7

Sorry, I should've posted what GPU

It's a NVidia Geforce 310

It says it supports OpenCL and CUDA... which should I be using for mining?

Oh and why do people get like 15K off an AMD Phenom but I only get 5K off an i7? I thought they're comparable processors?

Is it my software setup?

GPU mining slower than CPU mining?

Laptop:
Core2Duo 1.8ghz
1gb RAM
1500 khash/sec on CPU
?? khash/sec on GPU (it's intel video card, doubt it can do GPU)

Desktop:
Intel® Core™ i7-870 w/VT
8GB RAM
4500 khash/sec on CPU without limit
5000 khash/sec on CPU with limit to 4 cores (why is this higher?)
3500 khash/sec on GPU (I thought GPU>CPU?

1)Why is limiting to 4 cores faster than no limit (on 8 cores)?
2)Why is GPU slower than CPU when ppl say GPU is supposed to be an order of magnitude faster?
3)Why is my Core2Duo 1/3rd as fast as my i7 when my i7 has 8 cores vs 2 cores and a lot more ram/better architecture/etc?
