Re: bitcoin qt -0.8.5
by

I downloaded the zip format of bitcoin-qt.
Then I launched bitcoin-qt.exe to create all the files / folders on %App Data%/bitcoin

There's already a wallet.dat that got created as well. So I closed the application. Then renamed the wallet.dat that got created and copy in my wallet. I then relaunched the application.
Is that not how it's done? Will I need to run bitcoin-qt.exe -rescan from command prompt?

Thanks!

bitcoin qt -0.8.5

I had a wallet.dat file from long time ago ... thought I put in the wallet to check on the wealth and health.

I just loaded bitcoin-qt 0.8.5 and it's running on Win XP 32 bit. Replaced the wallet and re-launched bitcoin-qt. The flash screen is gone but the application never did come up. In place of the flash screen is a squarish rectangle that was last being displayed.

On the top right hand corner, bitcoin qt seems to be running. However, I cannot see anything other than that.

Any ideas what's going on?

What happened? The volume has gone down quite a bit.

Is MtGox dead? If I remember correctly, the usd/btc doesn't seem to have changed much.

What other exchanges are there??

I don't think http://www.freebtc4all.com/index.php is giving free btc. After you submit, it says "This is the address you'll get the payment from: 1KUVuPQ6NAT2LzH8NEq35Rpyz79QWqks6B "

I have been submitting for a week and search for that address; nothing came through from that address.

Hope this helps ... http://bitcoin.sipa.be/

Current hash is about 60000 GH/s - add a modest 50 units @ 1500GH/s = 75000 GH/s. Doubled the hash rate, what's the difficulty going to be?

I used to mine with UBUNTU OS / AMD (ATI) graphics
This is what I used http://sourceforge.net/projects/amdovdrvctrl

I don't know what the temp is suppose to be; but if I'm not mistaken, if I overclock my gpu to 100%, it was running around high 70s and low 80s. I mined for a year before quitting and the cards were still working. Sold it to a friend and he's still mining with those stats.

If I'm not mistaken, there were more ASIC manufacturers than ButterflyLabs (BFL). Cannot recall the name, but, one of them supposedly said it's not going to happen and refunded everyone's money. As for BFL, there are a long list of preorders ahead of you if you order now - which means the likeliness that by the time you receive yours, the difficulty has gone up so much that your miner is on the low end and won't make enough to cover the costs of the miner.

As for your question - why won't they just keep it for themselves - there are a lot of threads and opinions that discussed that before. Look it up ...

And as quickly it rises, the quicker it falls ... 266/btc to now 120/btc
Imagine those that got in at $266 this morning and see their "investments" loses more than half its value in less than 24 hours! If that doesn't dampen the mood of btc, I don't know what will

I think some powers to be are propping up the price; only to crash it when they have made their profit / target / achieve their goals - be it monetary or to kill btc's interest.

Exchange USD for Bitcoins - 15% Commission on Current Market Price

http://stlouis.craigslist.org/ele/3681927817.html

+15% is this fair price?

I have never bought / sell ... but looking at that link ... he makes 30% just being the middle man. He buys at -15%, sells at +15%. I think that's totally unreasonable. Well, at least I don't think MtGox charges that much or any other exchanges for that matter.
In addition, it's craigslist ... I would be really be careful.

I hope you don't fall into the hype of record prices. And if you are into btc for the long term, what's another few days over the normal verified / trusted exchanges.

Like I said, I have never traded, so I'm not "encouraging" you to go one way or the other. Plus, it's your $$; do what floats your boat with it.

Well, I think everyone that is in BTC is in it for a long term. And everyone that is in btc is prepared to lose it all without hurting for money. I am the same ... I enjoy the ride and in btc for the long term.

I cannot remember ... is USD90/btc all time high? Didn't it go to USD300 / btc one time? Or maybe it was a dream .. can't find it http://bitcoincharts.com/charts/mtgoxUSD#tgSzm1g10zm2g25zv
