Diversify. Diversify. Diversify.

I'm buying the top ten coins on coinmarketcap, in their respective market cap weighting. Do this too, unless you think you know more than the crypto market on average.

Thank god. I am getting a "system maintenance" flag when I try to trade. They should be more clear, but glad to see it's nothing major.

Resistance is futile.

Just my two satoshis.

We need to look at the fundamentals. You can't time (or price) the market. Momo fails. Crypto will succeed. I think it will be bitcoin for a long time.

What about government sponsored/supported/run cryptocurrency? Will China, or the U.S., supplant Bitcoin?

First mover advantage does not last forever. Where is Motorola in cell phones today?

How long will first mover advantage last in crypto, and why will it last longer or shorter than first mover advantage in other industries?

Read the white paper. Seems solid.

What do you do about assets falling out of the top 10? I assume you're set up to add new coins each month as needed.

Hi there, we have written a blog post about the best way to invest in cryptocurrency: https://medium.com/cryptomover/what-is-the-best-way-to-invest-in-cryptocurrency-2e9781b91fb4

Please feel free to give us any comments, thank you!
This is just an another article for a new altcoin in the market which is cryptomover and I cant say that its a good alternative besides bitcoin considering that there are lots of altcoin in the market which it would be better if do make decisions on investing on other altcoin I will choose those who are on the top than on new ones but it isn't really bad and I see the progress of cryptomover.

Thank you! That's why we are choosing the top 10 coins rather than new coins Smiley

This may be exactly what I'm looking for. See my Crypto Index Fund post. Amazing. Bummed if U.S. investors cannot participate.

Would prefer more than 10 coins, but this is a good start.

Check back in August next year for a possible round 2 Smiley
Thanks. I hope someone starts something similar, or even better, something were we don't choose the coins, but just do a market cap based investment. I'd do an active choice investment as well though.

Crypto Index Fund
by
noobinvestor
on 10/10/2017, 19:14:32 UTC
I want a crypto index fund.

It should be an index fund of the top X coins in terms of market cap, weighted by market cap. Perhaps use coinmarketcap.com to recalculate. I would be happy if X was any number over about 10. Now, this might catch some scams, but it will be self correcting. The primary advantage is the same advantage of index stock funds over actively managed stock funds.

Details tbd include whether the fund rebalances every day or every week or whatever, where to buy the coins that it would hold and where and how to trade to maintain the index-required holding percentages.

I have been looking/reading/watching for several weeks now and haven't found a passive coin index fund. It should exist and I would invest if it existed.

What do you think?

Edit: It appears cryptomover's index may be exactly what I want, but I think I read that U.S. investors are excluded.

I just opened my eyes to Bitcoin mining, I save up 80$ every month and was thinking maybe investing them in bitcoins wouldn't be that bad an idea? Whats your thoughts on this, what should a first timer know?

Investing in Bitcoin is always a great idea.  Investing in Bitcoin mining as others have stated, largely depends on the price you pay for electricity.

i think he can invest his money in bitcoin before he decide to bitcoin mining, with only 80$, i think its difficult to get big hashrate and in a month, we can only get less and we need long time before we can get ROI. i think its better to use 80$ to buy bitcoin when the trend is down, hold it in his wallet and sell it when its up. do it over and over until you can buy the hardware you want to mining bitcoin.

Yeah, it might be even better to just buy hashrate from reputable cloud mining operators. It would remove the hassle of setting up and maintaining it. You'd just have to wait for it to profit. Also, you can buy only a fraction of the hashing power and not really have to spend a lot of money as your initial investments.

Interesting. I'll research how to do this, but if you have an easy link/example, please share.
Not a Good idea to buy hashrate from any cloud mining sites there is no reputable cloud mining until now the can stay alive for a long time almost all  are turn into scam. and honestly its not really profit even its legit or not. ..
If you really wanted to mine there is other way to mine you can try coinhive.com and use your pc to mine xmr converted directly to bitcoin or you can make your own website and start to looking for miners and earn commissions.. they earn..  This is much safe that i know for now base on what i searched and testing..

Thank you. I will research this as well.

Re: Amazon Will Accept Bitcoin Speculation

If this happens then it will be huge for amazon and for everyone who is holding bitcoin, because this will be one of the first shops that is accepting bitcoin, and a lot of shops or online shops will start accepting bitcoin and other cryptos after this, because it has been the first, and everybody wants to see how it really works, and if it is profitable for the website.

How significant is it that Microsoft store accepts bitcoin?

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I don't think bitcoin is the future. The blockchain technology, sure, but not the crypto currency itself. There are too many draw backs to prevent it from being globally adopted - the cost to transact, the speed, the supply... These are really really substantial issues for breaking into mainstream.

So, do alts have a chance? Absolutely, providing they're based on a human need and the right technology.
Excellent post. We need more on the bolded.

How bad are these problems?

What coin is better in these areas (and still reasonably good in all other areas) and therefore is the competitor?

I thought for sure it would take until the end of 2018 but it looks like this summer ethereum might pass it up. With the turmoil around BTC potential splitting, it might be very soon. IMO this is healthy, we will always value bitcoin for being the one that started it all, but it's time for a more dynamic and adaptable currency to take the lead.
Yes becuase all things have end so we need to prefer to tge next future of coin that is etherium , i can say if the supply of bitcoin is exhaustes i think the value of bitcoin become high but bitcoin will die maybe 20 years.

yes everything will ended so bitcoin and the other coins too. i don't think about how long bitcoin will stay but as long as i can use bitcoin, i think it will not be a problem for me about how long bitcoin will exist. but personally, i think bitcoin will be more than 5 years from now and the value of bitcoin will increase especially if the supply is slowly goes decrease while demand is increase.
Thanks for the specific prediction.

I am basically looking for an analysis that is similar to a stock fundamentals analysis. Are we buying bitcoin over altcoins because of momentum solely? Or is there fundamental value of bitcoin over the altcoins?

It will be forever, bitcoin has been the first cryptocurrency, and it would not be replaced, maybe there are better altcoins with more advanced technologies, but it doesnt make them better, because those people who have never invested in bitcoin, will invest in btc at first, not in other currencies, so it is more famous.
But no, it would never be replaced..
Some altcoin may be better but that doesn't make it better. See a problem with that statement? I guess you're saying bitcoin is a better investment despite the altcoin being better, technically.

But won't the better coins eventually win?

But is there any value in Bitcoin over the other coins, besides first mover advantage?

If first mover is the only advantage, then can't another coin come along and topple Bitcoin?

I have not invested in crypto currency yet. Late to the party. I'm considering it.

I'm wondering about the inherent value. I get that it's better than fiat currency in so many ways. Best is the peer-to-peer over-coming the lack of trust thing, and for no fee. It's good currency. I get that. I agree. My question is why any one currency over another. So I thought this thread was the best place for this.

Bitcoin is the established king. But what is to stop someone from copying it? No, really copying it. As I understand it, all the altcoins are different in some way, usually trying to improve or be better than the other altcoins. But, why not make an exact copy of Bitcoin? Why not 500 copies of Bitcoin? Why not 500 copies of Ethereum, Neo, vert, etc.?

tldr: I accept that cryptocurrency is a valuable thing, but I don't see how it holds its value against other cryptocurrencies. What am I missing?
