Just being honest here but I don't expect the price to pump for M2 since its hardly unexpected. The news about Gates and Smarttrac and more companies coming on board - that's the kind of info which should nudge the price. The market is waiting now for serious estimations of factoid use in the future.

I've been looking for the grant in the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation list of grants awarded in 2016, because I'd like to find out the size of the grant - but it doesn't seem to be listed yet.

Great news everyone. Do we know the size of the grant awarded yet?

I think the Factom team has been pretty candid regarding their stance on the price of factom (they're not that bothered about the value), since they aren't planning to make money selling factoids (at least we hope they aren't doing that!) - This makes the whole project unique in the crypto space. Notice they don't relentlessly market factoids to you're standard ancaps because that isn't the business case - and it means we don't get the standard dev pumps everytime a new release comes out. The rise in price is more organic. On the downside, until the business case becomes achievable, the market will continue to swing like a pendulum.

My two cents is the drip drip drip of good news will buoy the price somewhat - When M2 finally releases my guess would be 0.004xx - all things being equal in the bitcoin world (of which there is zero guarantee!). In terms of higher gains, its all about the news factom releases in terms of potential users of the system. Now we really need to see usage gaining a lot more ground, not necessarily 200 million per month, but certainly 10 million to 20 million per month, as that will signal to traders that the platform has true potential and is being widely tested in the wild. M3 should also boost the price as well. But I honestly can't see us pushing past 0.005xxx without serious customers using the network.

Of course, all you need really is one big customer then it can really go boom. Paul Snow's throwaway remark about the DHS contract really piqued my interest. Who knows though. Maybe we'll be strung along some more for a few more months. Time will tell.

Disclaimer, I've reduced my position to a size I'm more comfortable with holding long term. Much better for your heart.

Read my post again. None of it was remotely negative, save for the obvious statement that delay and lack of news = price decline. Maybe you'd prefer this thread to become some kind of love letter to Brian Deery. I'd rather it was an honest and open discussion between factom traders.

Can you explain why it wouldn't be in factom's best interests to reveal that kind of information before M3? I'd be interested to hear your reasoning.  

Well credit where its due - you called the bitcoin selloff perfectly. Do you work for zerohedge? Anyway, these pushes tend to happen on the back of announcements (for xmr it was the oasis and alphabay double whammy) and if factom release testnet, then the real thing plus a couple more business announcements could create the right kind of conditions for a big rise as the drip drip drip of good news gets traders all hot and bothered. I still think we need something more tangible to justify factoid prices - as Grossbit suggested - company X will need to buy Z amount of factoids per month - for it to really hold its gains. We shall see.

I keep backing off of factom, but after the last dump down to 0.0023 I couldn't help but dip my toe in again. I also think that more delays combined with the news void that factom manages to generate could lead to a drop down to the 0.0015's......But I'm going to let the small amount I bought ride as a longshot and cross my fingers. We've all been waiting - but even if big news occurs that some company or other plans on buying 100 million entry credits per month, that still doesn't justify the current price at 73k per month inflation rate. I'm sure there will be a mini rally when M2 is finally here (and if that doesn't happen before christmas - expect fct to halve in value from here), but I think we'll be waiting for quite some time before we see usage figures for entry credits justifying a value of say 5 dollars per factoid. Who knows though, maybe speculation will help out.

The only people buying zerocash are compulsive gamblers and the mentally infirm. But the bitcoin rise and subsequent altcoin bloodbath was widely expected to happen. What I'm most surprised (and somewhat pleased) about is the carnage for ethereum. They've had that coming for a long long time.

If you look back in the forum posts, you were warned many times - but anyone who doubts the absolute and complete success of factom is immediately described as a troll. I believe one of the devs of factom actually wrote an article on the value of constructive criticism. The irony.

Shame because as we all know, anchoring proof of existence, audit and process into a blockchain is a very very big idea.

I'm waiting for a lower entry point. Sub 0.002.

Happy to sit this out in bitcoin for a few months. Can't really see any big moves up till we have some serious demand for EC's - 200 million per month as I recall. Maybe I'll pick up some cheap factoids in the new year. Good luck everybody.
