Returning to crypto since the bubble. How to split BCH?
by
nzhu
on 22/10/2019, 01:52:39 UTC
Hi, I've been out of crypto for a long time. I left after making the dumb move of not selling during the bubble and told myself I'd come back in a few years which is now.

However, I saw that BCH has split into BCHABC and BCHSV.
And it was a while ago too. I've been gone for a while.

However, I still have BCH Presplit on my ledger nano.
Is there still a way to split the BCH?

Are there any exchanges that could do it automatically?

Thanks

Returning from Crypto Coma. Help with Bitcoin Cash Fork!
by
nzhu
on 17/11/2018, 04:42:12 UTC
I've been out for a few months, and I've only returned with the recent Bitcoin Cash fork.
The whole time I've kept my bitcoin cash on my ledger nano S.
But now I see that BCH has split into BCHABC and BCHSV.

But I don't see any options to access those coins from ledger nano's bitcoin wallet.
Since the fork is over, and BCH is dropping a lot, it's making me really nervous because I NEED the fork coins to break even.

Can anyone confirm that I can retrieve BCHABC and BCHSV from my bitcoin cash wallet?

And how would I do that?

Thanks!

Re: How does Capital Loss Tax Work? IRS Says:
by
nzhu
on 08/07/2017, 16:04:00 UTC
Not sure if I understood it correctly. It just means you only pay less this year, but you have to pay again next year. For example you have a capital loss of $4000, and so you pay $1000 instead, but you would have to pay that $3000 again next year. (they probably wouldnt give everyone a free $3000 deduction every year Tongue)

Check this site that explains this also, may help you to understand. Smiley
http://loopholelewy.com/loopholelewy/13-capital-gains-losses/capital-gains-losses-03-capital-losses-ordinary-losses.htm

But that link you gave me said "If a net capital loss exceeds $3,000, the excess must be carried over to the following year and is included in the computation of capital gains and losses of that year. If the loss is not used up in the following year, it may be carried to future years until it is used up."

So you agree with me that the $3000/yr until it is all gone sound waaaaay TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE....and yet these websites are saying it. By that logic, even if you lose 30K in trading, you can still get it all back in only 10 short years....which is ridiculous!!! Or 300K in a lifetime of 100 years....meaning if you start at a young age, you've got 200-300K in your lifetime to play and not suffer any loses over your lifetime. Like WTF! That sounds crazy!!!

I need someone who did suffer these loses to confirm that it is true.

OR...I was thinking does it work like this:
Your income for that year is 10,000. You lose 3000, and so you only pay tax on that remaining $7000?
Then this is the expected terrible return i expected which makes more sense.
if your tax is 15% that year, then you only get back a couple hundred

How does Capital Loss Tax Work? IRS Says:

The IRS website says "If your capital losses exceed your capital gains, the excess can be deducted on your tax return and used to reduce other income, such as wages, up to an annual limit of $3,000"

So Does this mean that if I invested $9000 into a company. And then say the company goes bankrupt and I lose all $9000 dollars.
And assuming I made no Capital Gains, does that mean that for the next 3 years, I can get $3000 in deductions on my taxes until  the Loss = 0?

Doesn't that sound too good to be true? If that's true when that means for $3000/year, anyone can play with investments and no suffer any consequences?
I thought investing was a dangerous thing to do but if you can just deduct all your losses, then that's like giving you a "free play ticket" of $3000/year

Thanks!

How/Where to Report Stolen Cryptocurrency?
by
nzhu
on 30/06/2017, 20:11:18 UTC
I've had my money stolen from Poloniex. Contacted poloniex- they said they can't do anything.
At this point I know there's no way to get it back, but I just want to report it somewhere within the legal system.
Can I report it to FBI or the local Police?
Any other places/people to report to?

URGENT: I HAVE ONLY 5 DAYS BEFORE THE HACKER TAKES EVERYTHING
At this very moment, a random 2 factor Authentication showed up when I tried to login to my Poloniex account. I saw the 2FA and I looked to my phone waited….and realized, wait shit! What is this! I thought I just have to type my password in as usual. That’s how its always been! A little digging, I found that polo had a 2 factor authentication system which I haven’t heard of (still quite a beginner at this). They made no emphasis on 2FA while I signed up so this was a complete shock to me … but now I have a random 2FA being put against me, the owner of my account! The very system meant to protect me IS KEEPING ME FROM TRANSFERRING OUT MY COINS TO SAFETY!
At that moment, I realized the only thing that could have happened! I am being hacked this very moment and someone locked me out of my own account so the criminal can steal my money quietly!
I submitted a ticket to poloniex immediately but I knew! When Poloniex still had the TrollBox, people CONSTANTLY complained about how they weren’t getting their tickets/problems resolved for WEEKS to MONTHS! I knew that the Hacker’s 2FA was only meant to buy some time because they knew Poloniex doesn’t care enough about their customers to provide immediate assistance. If this were a physical crime scenario, this is like if I am about to get robbed out of all my money at a 7–11, I call 911 and they come to check on my store 1 month later and conclude, “sry, we can’t help you because the good were stolen”. No shit!
And then I went to check my emails for the IP logins and I saw this!!
— — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — —
Hello,
This email is to notify you of a successful login to your Poloniex account from an IP address not previously associated with this account.
Username/email: nzhu@gmu.edu
IP Address: 77.246.158.13
If you do not recognize this login, you should freeze your account immediately and contact support.
Sincerely,
The Poloniex Team
 — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — -
That IP Traces to Moscow, RUSSIA! I’m being hacked at this very moment by the Russians!!!
But I realized something MY ONLY SAVING GRACE!,
I never upgraded my withdraw limit! My withdraw limit is still $2000/day. So they can only take pieces of it at a time which is why I assume they locked me out, so they can take it away day by day whilst Poloniex watches with ambivalence.
I offer this as a warning to everyone who is vulnerable to this attack and to expose the insane insecurity of Poloniex.
I also hope that this article can get enough attention so that Poloniex can see my urgency and take a minute to help and act before all my hard earned money is gone. More and more will disappear each day.
My clock is ticking.

Disable Bittrex/Poloniex account doesn't work!!!
by
nzhu
on 24/06/2017, 21:52:36 UTC
I'm pretty sure my account got hacked (I can't login to check if my coins are still there) because a 2FA appeared out of no where. I didn't even know what 2fa was until after I saw it. But I didn't set it up for sure! H ow could I? I didn't know even know 2fa was a thing until then but if they hacked me then there goes basically all my money.

I went to my email to disable my account but it still pops up with the 2fa meaning my account wasn't disabled!!!!!
I tried disabling my bittrex account from my email also and I CAN STILL LOGIN!!!!

WHAT THE HORSE SHIT IS THIS?!!

I tried logging into my poloniex account and I asks me for 2FA!
I didn't have 2fa on!!! i didn't know what "Google authenticator" was until it happened.

So I immediately went to my email and found an ip I don't recognize from moscow 3am this morning
But I've had another ip from bulgaria yesterday!

I froze my account from my email...but is it too late?

='(
Did you receive any withdrawal confirmation in your mail? if you didn't then you probably are safe for now. contact support and disable 2FA and then YOU activate 2FA.

Dude put 2 factor on all your bitcoin accounts. It's so easy.

Agreed! It would be better if we familiarize ourselves to always increase the security level in each of our accounts that potentially harm us if others can master it. 2FA is the most powerful way to avoid theft.

Whether by already protecting 2FA, there is a possibility to be penetrated? Can also be added with SMS protection?
SMS based 2FA isn't secure. use google authenticator or authy (with disabled multi device feature).

Poloniex has never sent me any messages about any of my deposits and withdrawls so that doesn't help much.
But I've never withdrawn to a wallet before. I've just been trading.
Does poloniex usually give a confirmation for bitcoin deposits into the wallet? Because I never get any. Nor do I get confirms when I withdrawl bitcoins.

poloniex trollbox hands down

Poloniex shut down the Trollbox. I made a replacement because I see a necessity for a community where people are free to discuss trends. Also to warn others of TECHNICAL PROBLEMS as was increasing drastically right before poloniex shut down the trollbox.

I think so! All those technical issue posts of not getting their coins in weeks were increasing and increasing!
Now none of those people can be heard!

I started a chatroom so that everyone can talk freely about this!

A free discussion chatroom is necessary! I've been talking into the chatroom for long. It feels like a part of me is missing every time I login to poloniex now!!

So I made a url direct to an online IRC where all of us Poloniex trollbox ppl can talk about stuff without triggerhappy Banhammers being constantly thrown at us.

This chatroom services also has a nice feature where you can hide all of a person's comments so if you know someone's a troll, then you can hide all of it.
