I have heard about few examples of such an extraction. Verizon, which took over the Internet part of Yahoo in October of 2017, later revealed that about 3 billion user accounts were hacked due to a hacking incident in August of 2013. Tumblr and Flickr, which were owned by Yahoo, were hacked as well. Moreover, Oracle’s payment-related subsidiary firm, Micros, was also hacked for its user information, and Linkedin announced that password of 6.5 million users were hacked in 2012.
As personal information data is becoming centralized, corporations who save a lot of customer’s information are becoming a good prey for hackers, like a honey pot.
