Just checking back in... after 2 years... still no streaming platform. I would have had it in beta by now, yet they farmed the work out to cheap Indian developers who (based on my 30 years of experience in dealing with off-shored work) will never deliver a usable product. StreamSpace is swinging for the trees with a wet noodle. Sigh...

Have a look at this one:

https://stream.space

Only one developer (and one intern) and two inexperienced founders promoting a pie-in-the-sky concept that will take a team of 20 devs 2 years to complete.

I think this is another get-rich scheme.

This project has a very good team. A team of some great people. And there are also some famous sponsors. What do we doubt for this project? I do not think there is any more.

I somewhat doubt that this is the answer to the question I asked Cheesy But maybe you are right regardless. Wink

In all transparency with the BCT community, I parted company back in October and I am no longer on the team.

Action Required! Mandatory update to 2.1.8 using the wallet’s Check for Update feature, or downloading it from the solarcoin.org website.

SolarCoin Community,

Thank-you for your patience as we get through this fork.  We rolled out 2.1.6 to reduce the minimum transaction fee from 0.001 to 0.0001, with a fork scheduled for block height 1440000.  Because this was not a hard-fork, it opened the door for 2.1.1 nodes to reject transactions for not paying the minimum fee of 0.001. This was expected to cause a soft fork, which it did.  However, I suspect that when transactions were sent from 2.1.1 nodes to 2.1.6 nodes, this also created a third fork among the 2.1.6 nodes.

We tried to remedy this in 2.1.7 by creating a hard fork, bumping the protocol version from 70004 to 70005, and blocking nodes on older protocols.  This was somewhat successful.  However, there were still 2.1.7 nodes creating mini-forks.  We issued 2.1.7.1, which added four new blockchain checkpoints, and required more node connections before allowing a wallet to stake.  Because this was not a staking issue, but a transaction fee issue, those on 2.1.7.1 that were not sending transactions (i.e. the master node, explorers and many in the community) managed to stay in sync.

We are actively testing version, 2.1.8, which retains the reduced transaction fee (SLR 0.0001), and reverts all of the special forking logic back to a code state equivalent to 2.1.1 (but still using protocol version 70005, which blocks 2.1.1 nodes).

Please update your Qt wallet ASAP to 2.1.8 and begin staking so we can get the network stable again.

Note: This update forces a Blockchain Reload.  After the reload, please rescan your wallet.

We will notify the exchanges and explorer ASAP.  The website will be updated later today.

I have a huge problem. When Im connected with my ISP I CAN'T download anything from the Solarcoin website anymore. Its crazy but someone I think my ISP is blocking everything. When I connect with a VPN it suddenly works. Thats why I wasn't getting any new bocks from the new Version yesterday. I guess ill have to run my node on a VPN now. what a bunch of jerks

I'm installing VPNS on my nodes and should have them back up soon

Call your ISP, it could be a configuration problem inside your modem. After the hurricane that blew through here my modems file got corrupted, comcast had to resend a valid file to the modem because I could access some websites but others just wouldn't download.

solarcoin site will get an SSL certificate and all applications and programs will be getting developer certified by MSFT and AAPL developer programs ASAP.

This is excellent news Smiley Keep up all the great work. Felling really bullish about SLR recently! Loving it

A word of caution if you are trading on Bittrex.  I have not confirmed that they have updated to 2.1.8.  I'll post here when it's confirmed.

yeah 2.1.8 working well here too. I've not had a problem since 2.1.7 but glad everyone is sorted now Smiley

I did a full sync from the genesis block successfully. Took a couple days, but it's good to regression test.

Looks like 2.1.8 is stable so far.

Thanks, everyone.  I will be notifying the exchanges and CryptoID now that it looks like the forking is resolved.

Installed the 2.1.7.1 last night and it seemed ok, so went to bed.  Got up this morning and it wasn't syncing again, will try some more triage.

I will be home in a couple of hours to try starting over.
Pretty sure we are going to have to revert back to before the hardfork though. Its pure chaos right now and everything used to work a week ago
Its all OK now on my end, did a new blockchain reload and its been stable for some hours

Happy to hear this, cant wait to get my wallet back up online and staking. Steve I will send you some coins to the SLR donation address you provided on your profile  Grin

Morning SolarCoiner, please check your PM. Thanks!

My wallet doesnt seem to be updating with new blocks. When i scroll over the icon at the bottom right it says : xxxxx bocks downloaded out of 1456310 (But new blocks are rolling in on the block explorer). My wallet is still syncing but it doesn't seem to update with the blockchain. It basically says that the block height is at 1456310 and its not updating

What is the first number (xxxxx)?  If the bootstrap was successful, the gap between the two numbers should be small.

EDIT: Also check your disk space. The bootstrap is over 800M.

Its still currently downloading. The bootstrap isn't working so i'm letting it load the old fashioned way. I only have a few blocks loaded since I just started from scratch. What I meant to ask is what is the current correct block height?

Current block height is now 1456335.

EDIT: I have one syncing from scratch also. It may take a day, but it's a good sanity check. Wink  While your node is below height 1440000, you may notice 2.1.1 peers. That's fine. After 1440000, the 2.1.1 peers will not be allowed to connect to you.

I shut everything back down because nothing is working right now. I cant even download the bootstrap manually (The download wont start)
What I meant to say before: While I was letting it sync the old fashioned way the block height (displayed at the bottom right of the wallet when you hover over it with your mouse) was lower than the one on the block explorer.

Doesn't this suggest that there is a problem elsewhere?
I reinstalled everything and reinstalled using the bootstrap like 5x.
Now the bootstrap wont download anymore and im forced to let it load the old way... But I have a feeling there is no point if my wallet is already displaying the wrong block height why should i even let it load

Sounds like a case of a "really long day".  Wipe everything in the AM per the instructions a few pages back.  In the meantime, I'm going to setup a cron job to build the bootstrap at the TOP of every hour.

Get some rest!

I'm done for tonight. Already shut down my PC. Unfortunately I need to get up early tomorrow.
I have tried everything I can like 5x already. On top of that it takes twice as long on the intel pc stick so it's really annoying to have to uninstall/install the Wallet and delete/download the blockchain...
The Wallet won't even let me reload the blockchain from the bootstrap now for some reason.

When I have time tomorrow I will try again and I will PM you my debog.log file.

Thank you for your efforts

Thanks for hanging in there.   No need to reinstall, just stop, delete peers.dat, restart, and reload blockchain.

But if you don't mind, please shutdown your wallet if it is forked. Thanks.

PS: You may have been trying to reload the blockchain while it was being created.

Giving it one last try right now since I was probably trying to reload while you updated the bootstrap like you said. I deleted all the blockchain data and its reloading now. If it doesn't work I will obviously shut it off before I got to sleep.

Thanks for the effort and hope to get this resolved soon

Edit: Just one last question:

For some reason I try to reload from the bootstrap and the window just randomly disappears so now it's loading from scratch... Can I let it load like this or do I need the bootstrap? (I only have the master node in my config file)

Sometimes, if the PC is under load, it appears that the window just suddenly disappears without completing the extraction, but the wallet should restart fine.

I seem to be back on the long chain again, so far so good

Just installed the new update and reloading blockchain. I will post the results

2.1.7.1 is ready to go.  Help->Check for Update, then let me know if you are still having issues.  Thanks, again, everyone.

Now it doesn't even try to catch up - it's In Sync right after downloading the bootstrap. I will post a screenshot and a text file with the getpeerinfo. I am connecting from a cellular IP (random within the provider's range).

EDIT: will repeat the bootstrap download, just to be sure it got right.
EDIT2: Now it works! This time it did sync up to the current Explorer block height, and keeps on syncing. Will now go on to upgrade all wallets.
Thank you Steve!

Mine wont sync although it says in sync. Im missing about 20 blocks.

When I got back from the cellular IP to my regular LAN/WAN setup, syncing stopped altogether - it does say "In Sync" (with a new empty wallet) and would apparently start staking with a non-empty wallet. As per Steve, my regular IP may have been banned for up to 24 hours, but shouldn't it be trying to sync during the ban, instead of staying In Sync and staking at the wrong block height? This time I need to post a snapshot - back here in a few minutes.

Let me delete the peers.dat on the master node and see if that helps some of you that may be banned.  I'll edit this post when done...

EDIT: Done.

solarcoiner, can you PM me your debug.log file?

OK, I will try it now, but this current logic would still leave the possibility for any IP that gets banned to fork since it will stay In Sync & Staking instead of just hanging in a Syncing state until the ban expires. Or may be that would't be an issue later on? Still the possibility remains that anyone newly connected and syncing will have the (bad) chance to sync to a banned IP and join that fork.

EDIT: Just re-loaded the blockchain from the bootstrap, synced to 1456166... took it a while waiting for 94 more blocks, but eventually decided it's In Sync at 1456166.

While I am currently researching the problem (I believe there are still too many forked 2.1.7 nodes, even though 2.1.1 is being successfully blocked), could everyone that is not on the block displayed by CryptoID do the following:

1. Shutdown your wallet.
2. Delete peers.dat.
3. Verify that solarcoin.conf only has the master node: addnode=162.243.214.120
4. Restart the wallet.
5. Reload the Blockchain.

I have just created a fresh bootstrap from the master node.  The reason you stop several blocks short of the longest chain is because the fork you are on is not generating blocks, or doing so slowly.  If you can get past that chain, you should be good.

-Steve

EDIT: 2.1.7 still outnumbers 2.1.7.1 almost 5 to 1, so we need to get more nodes to update.

Yeah, I created a fresh bootstrap.zip from the master node about an hour ago so you would be almost in sync after bootstrapping.

EDIT: I'm doing some post mortum, and even have a node syncing from the genesis block. That will take a while, but I'll post anything that comes up.

To everyone that is still experiencing issues, please follow these steps:

1. Shutdown your wallet.
2. Uninstall the SolarCoin wallet.
3. Verify that the clock is set correctly on your computer.
4. Make a copy of your wallet.dat and save it in a safe, temporary, location.
5. Delete EVERYTHING in the application data directory (C:\Users\{your name}\AppData\Roaming\SolarCoin\).
6. Delete EVERYTHING in the program directory (C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarCoin\).
7. Download and Install the 2.1.7 wallet from: http://solarcoin.org/downloads/
(Respond 'No' to importing a wallet.)
8. Run File->Reload Blockchain, then wait for the wallet to restart and fully sync with the network.
(This should happen automatically after the install. You will need to provide a password for the new wallet.)
9. When the wallet is fully synced, shutdown the wallet again.

10. Copy your saved wallet.dat back to the application data directory.
11. Startup your wallet.
12. Run File->Rescan Wallet (Your wallet will restart and take a while to fully come back up.)

This is a sledgehammer approach, but removes all possible variables.

Notes:
Executing steps 1 - 9 with a fresh (empty) wallet will make the process go much faster, as there are no transactions in the empty wallet to scan for.
The installed solarcoin.conf file should only have one addnode for the master-node server. If you use a custom conf file, please wait to reintroduce it until you are fully in sync.

Thanks for you patience,
Steve

EDIT: I just ran through these steps, and everything synced up fine. Please follow the steps exactly. Thanks.

All, I am going to issue a new wallet, version 2.1.7.1, soon which has the following changes:

1. Increase the number of required connected nodes to 4 before allowing your node to stake.  This will alleviate some of the mini forking, by requiring a stronger pool of nodes before you can submit new blocks.
2. Added 4 new checkpoints to help keep all the nodes on track, and prevent requesting blocks from possible forked nodes.  The new checkpoints are:
            (1000000, uint256("0x96d44ecebaf37bc17044a52ecaf7ba9da16ecbb42936402de3e23c38561a6b20"))
            (1440000, uint256("0xae70181c2b2a0af8eb16916f4037ceaf674f3b040e3609d59193a8c37f44e096"))
            (1450000, uint256("0x65051554822826f1ced143093bba9443c00f4c53138a06df193741cdee3b3ac8"))
            (1456000, uint256("0xd7c13104530a9794dc67a623111e6644b3110f7b18b6f8aa3a92aae8162d9996"))

Note to Joe and Nick, there is no rush to get the exchanges and block explorers updated.  This is primarily for staking nodes.

Thats exactly what I posted yesterday when I temporarily fixed my wallet. However I am still having issues so the problem must be elsewhere

I'm currently trying this again but it just fixes the problem for a few hours and then the wallet gets stuck again...

Did your solarcoin.conf have just the master-node?

I just did all the steps on one of the wallets, for the heck of it - same result - stuck in "syncing", every new connection with a smaller startingheight decreases the number of "Blocks Remaining", and the sync halts again. Right now I have 19 connections, non of those is sending my wallet any blocks.
The solarcoin.conf has just the master-node in it:
addnode=162.243.214.120

Thanks. I suspect you are not receiving blocks because your node is blocked. The block can last for 24 hours.

I'm trying to identify the offending nodes, atm.
