Board Scam Accusations
Re: Keys from wallets
by

Yesterday I saw that scammers place keys from wallets in the tables of bounty members. Some participants go into this wallet and see that there are tokens but there is no ETH and they transfer a couple of bucks to this purse to get tokens/ But this purse is configured so that when there enter eth then they are automatically transferred to other addresses.
It's very interesting and fun to watch Grin Cheesy

But they take Eth from those who want to steal other people's tokens. But I do not know how they managed to set up a purse so that it automatically sends eth

This looks very awesome. I think many people (developers) will be interested in this idea. I look forward to reading the whitepaper and potentially investing in this project. I wonder what the future holds for this fantastic idea?

do me a favor and submit the form at https://gitcoin.co/whitepaper and i'll get you an invite soon.

[ANN][GIT] -- Gitcoin; Push Open Source Forward
by
owocki
on 25/09/2017, 18:19:57 UTC

Gitcoin is an Ethereum-based application for the open source software ecosystem.

Why?

Despite the power of the open source software solutions they build, Open Source Developers receive a small percentage of compensation relative to their economic value to the 21st century economy.  Open Source Developers are underfunded, under-appreciated, and overworked.
Gitcoin brings market dynamics to the problem of allocating the scarce attention of software developers. It's a distributed application that augments coding networks like Github.com with a fun, lightweight interface for exchanging scarce tokens that can:

1.   Filter signal from noise
2.   Incentivize software development.

Our long-term vision is to disrupt the software development lifecycle end-to-end.  What Uber did for ridesharing, Gitcoin has the potential to do to software development.

Open Source Software is the foundation of millions of careers in software development. For developers like myself who have built careers on python, javascript, HTML5, Ubuntu, and countless other Open Source technologies, its easy to forget that it wasn’t  always this way.

Before the advent of distributed version control systems like Git in 2005, Open Source was a fringe phenomenon. The launch of Github, several years after Git become a phenomenon, further pushed open source forward by making it easy for developers to share ideas, get feedback, and distribute their code. Today, Github has 5.8 million active users, 331k active organizations, and enabled 815k new users to make their first pull request in 2016 alone.

As far as Open Source has come, there is still a disconnect between the _value_ that the open source ecosystem provides to the modern economy, and the compensation provided to developers for that impact. The Oracle’s and Red Hat’s of the world have built successful businesses built upon open source, but the small and mid-caps of the world have not yet unbundled those business models.

The launch of Ethereum and the smart contract infrastructure built upon it has the potential to change all that. By tokenizing value and making it programmatically easy and secure to exchange value, there exists an opportunity to push open source forward with borderless, secure, easy payments.

What?

Gitcoin Core is a team of developers that believes each of the follow actors in the Open Source ecosystem have a lot to gain by removing middlemen, creating new opportunities, and introducing efficiencies into their workflow:

Gitcoin is a series of smart contracts designed to push open source forward.

So what exactly is Gitcoin? Gitcoin is a distributed network of Smart Contracts, based upon Ethereum that enables:

- Job Hunters to find work, and perhaps more importantly, to try out working together before they commit.
- Open Source Contributors to make a living wage off of their work in open source.
- Repo Maintainers to galvanize an always-on, globalized, network of peers.

https://i.imgur.com/CgeHbO9.png

By facilitating the transfer of value through this ecosystem, Gitcoin solves for the inefficiencies in this triple-sided market:

How?

The Gitcoin network is live today.  At the center of the current functionality is the Gitcoin Bounty Explorer. The Bounty Explorer is an index of all of the funded tasks available immediately worldwide. Here is what it looks like (and hey, there’s an API also!)

It is possible, based upon the momentum of this launch, that a token distribution event will occur.  If that is the case, the token distribution event will be detailed within the Gitcoin Whitepaper.

We believe in building tools that are by & for the community.   As such, every piece of application code or smart contract used in production is posted on our github.

Re: Which coin now you think had a good future

I think that Litecoin has a good potential to grow. It is cheap, fast and convenient than other cryptocurrency. Moreover, it has activated the segwit and also the lightning network. Many people underestimate litecoin due to many reasons but I do believe that it will soon dominate the marketcap with bitcoin

I don't get why people think Litecoin has value.  For a long time, it was called 'the rock' because it just always sunk.  I guess its a testnet for Bitcoin changes, but there's already a testnet for that..

Re: Ethereum is long term investment

Ethereum is better for long term invest?
Please share your valuable opinion.

I believe there are four major categories of blockchain platforms these days:

1. Store of value (Bitcoin, Litecoin)
2. Smart Contracts (Ethereum, Lisk),
3. Privacy (Zcash, Monero)
4. Governance (Tezos, Decred)

Does anyone think there are other value categories for Blockchains?  Not investment advice, but I think it's prudent to plan for the eventual success of each of these categories...

Does any one thinks that Ethereum can survive with the rising of Waves? I've heard that "Waves will be the next Ethereum"

Totally anecdotal, but : I work as a developer in the tech scene in Boulder Colorado, and theres a ton of momentum with respect to Solidity and Ethereum, and no one mentions Waves, ever. I tend to believe that for smart contract development and ICOs, the value will follow what developers are interested in.

Re: Is Ethereum a threat to BTC???
by

i always think its funny when a BTC maximalist tries to sell BTC's broken governance as 'immutability' and 'store of value'.  what happens when a quantum computer comes out that breaks bitcoin's POW algorithm and BTC needs to upgrade?  lack of governance is a bug, not a feature.

yes, ethereum is a threat to bitcoin.  its faster, cheaper, and it's got working governance.

Ethereum.  Even though it's already appreciated a lot, it still has massive upside.  Its got the potential to be the backbone of web3.

I think Ethereum has the largest chance of surviving in the future (smart contracts)
Zcash for privacy
Decred for governance
BTC for store of value.

It'll be interesting to see further categories beyond the above emerge.

If you're building your token on Ethereum, ENS is your best bet.  Also, youll want to put the token name into the token itself (the ERC20 standard allows this).

If the old one doesn't die for some reason like with Ethereum Classic than it is the same as with Bitcoin Cash and Ethereum Classic itself, so you can have a bet on if it you want.

It seems extremely unlikely that the old chain doesn't die.  For the old one to continue, there has to be enough Ethereum miners and users that disagree with the HF to continue to maintain the status quo.  Afaik there isn't anyone in the Ethereum community that isn't looking forward to Metropolis.

Re: Why Altcoins are traded with Bitcoin or Ether and not with fiat directly?
by
owocki
on 29/08/2017, 05:39:36 UTC
Litecoin Ether and Bitcoin are all traded directly with Fiat currency at GDAX.

But I think that most exchanges don't want to go through the AML/KYC requirements to trade directly fiat with altcoins.  The money transmitter regulations are quite burdonsome.
