How much is going to cost that x16 to 8 usb riser expansion card? Im really interested into buying one of those now.

It could be great to simplify building a miner. Cheaper versions with 4 or 6 ports could be also great for older boards with resource limits.

I've just updated my strapmod utility to handle R9 straps:
Code:
~/github/strapread$ ./strapmod.py 7771332000000000EF516A3790550F1232179A05006AE40022AA1C0874021420CA89C0A8020000C01510232859283315
R9 strap detected
Old, new RRD: 0 , 5
Old, new FAW: A , 0
Old, new 32AW: 7 , 0
Old, new ACTRD: 15 , 0x10
7771332000000000EF516A3790550F1232179A05006AE40022AA1C0874021420CA89C0A8020000C01510232859283315
7771332000000000EF515A3790550F1232179A050060040022AA1C0874021420CA89C0A8020000C01010232859283315

For which kind of card/memory is that strap?

After reading OC.net hawaii bios editing post, and reading this post a few times, I've tried to learn to do it myself. Before starting to learn about custom timing, i've just copied lower clock timings into higher ones, with gains around 5% at same gpu/mem clocks, not bad. I'll try to explain how I did it, because it's been hard for me to understand at first how to do it, so I hope it helps other ppl.

Everything done under windows (I have ubuntu also, but i find myself more comfortable in windows, dont kill me for it).

First of all, I downloaded both original BIOS using GPU-Z (Button right to BIOS version). Save them as backup.

Then, open the one you want to modify with Hex Workshop
It looks (correct me please if I'm wrong), that some of the Hawaii timings use to start with 77 71 (that's been the case for my Hynix AJR), so I made a search (Ctrl+F) for Hex Values 7771.

Then, look at the 4 pair of numbers before the 77 71 pairs, select them with mouse and look at the right column "Data Inspector" for the int32 value, thats the Mhz of the memstrap
multiplied by 100. If you want to find the rest of the straps, put mouse cursor before 77 and add an offset (Ctrl+G) of 48 bytes (thats the case for my BIOS/memory type, if its not the case, search for the next 77 71 and use 4 pairs before).

For a R9 390X bios with Hynix AJR, straps are 800-900-1000-1125-1250-1375-1425-1500-1625-1750-2000.

So for this BIOS, i chose to copy the 1250 memstrap into the 1375,1425,1500 and 1625 ones. 1250 memstrap for me is this one: 77713320000000008CC5583460550F0F2C94B8070048C50022FF1C085C0F14205A8900A00000012 0120D23287B222D13

After this, you can also mod gpu/mem clocks, voltages and fan speed with HawaiiBiosReader

With all these changes you will need to fix BIOS checksum. Use the .exe OhGodACsumFixer.exe posted in OP by opening it with cmd. Just paste .exe in the same dir as the bios, go there with an administrator plivilege cmd and type OhGodACsumFixer.exe BIOSNAME. Check if checksum is OK using HawaiiBiosReader.

I'm totally a noob at this so please, correct me if im wrong. I haven't tried any bios with more than 1 memory type, that could change some values, so please, be careful.

motherboard work well? and does it needs hdmi dummy for turning on? also does 6 RX 480 s work on it?

which PSU is better to use and is DPS-2000BB enough for full rig with 6 RX480 s and motherboard ?

sorry for simple questions i'm new in GPU mining and trying to find out everything before i order all of the stuff...

That mainboard has only 4 PCI-express slots (1 x16 and 3 x1, there are 2 legacy PCI slots that are useless for mining). Z97 chipset should have enough PCI express lanes to run 6 to 8 GPU, but you will need some kind of PCI-e expansion board with more slots in order to get all the slots.  I don't know if those boards are realiable enough for a rig, maybe someone could tell us about those boards.

2000 watts should be enough for 6 gpus + a pico for the mainboard+cpu+hdd. Correct me if I am wrong, but i think you will need this.
You will need some 6pin to 8 pin adapters if your PSU has only 6pin connections, and each GPU will use 2: a 6(to 8 pin) cable for the GPU and a 6pin for the riser. So for 6 GPU you will need 12 PCI-e connectors in the server PSU breakout board plus one more for the pico. You could save some connectors using some 6pin PCI-e to Dual 6pin PCI-e cables, so you will end using 1 6pin PCI-e connector to power 2 GPU risers, so a 12 PCI-e 6pin breakout board will be enough

Has anyone tried to build their own 6 or 8pin PCI-e connectors? If so, where can I buy the connectors at a right price? Searching ebay bring me some expensive results

dude, this looks awesome!

I'm trying this at home with 1 R9 390. At first I was mining ZEC with Claymore 12.4 while installing monitorig, and closed it when monitorig started. It detected 0H/s, so I stopped it, changed Claymore binaries from monitorig to 12.4 ones, and restarted from dashboard. Now, my dashboard says that i have 2 x R9 390, and it is cloning data from my only one.

I'm planning to build a rig for use it with nicehash miner, so nicehashminer will be changing from claymore to sgminer when profitability changes. Is it compatible with it? Will it autodetect which miner is it running, and showing it on dashboard?

Congrats for this v2, it looks awesome!
Ne sure only one openhardwaremonitor is running

Ouch, what a silly mistake, i didn't noticed. Fixed, thanks!

A question to all the ones using server PSU... How do you power your pci-e x1 to usb risers? Do you use some kind of PCI-e 6 pin to 2xSATA extender? So, a server PSU with x8 PCI-e 6 pin connectors is not for 4GPUs, it is for 3 GPU plus risers..

I'm thinking into buying a really cheap refurbished FSP 500W ATX psu for mobo+cpu+16x GPU, and a server PSU for every GPU with a riser, But I can't see how to power risers only with server PSU without wasting so many connectors. PCI-e 6 pin are made for 150W max, aren't them? So for 75W max from PCI-e connector, that should be a PCI-e 6pin to 2xSATA for 2 risers.

I'm a really interested on the topic, as a possible future small miner to build my first rig. I have little space for a rig, so saving a mobo/psu/cpu/hdd would be perfect if I want to invest in more than 6 gpu. Congrats!

I had trouble withdrawing my balance 12h ago in stamp... and 4 hours ago i heard about a friend of a friend having problems also.
I think that lot of people are withdrawing their coins, and with multi-sig security, it's not instant for them to fill the hot wallet.

If you have a ripple account, and are too worried, you can buy ripples and send them to your account. That worked for me today
