Re: Lab Rat Data Processing, LLC (LabRatMining) Official Announcement

Set up a GHash.io account and started playing around.  Pointed a little power over to it to test the waters... pool... heh... See what I did there? Live stats of the some odd 450-480GH/s are at the bottom of every LRM page and on the current hashrate page.  I'm assuming the readout would be considered an "image" or I'd put it in my forum sig.

FWIW
I've been using bitminter for a while and have had good luck, the pool is not large (https://blockchain.info/pools) but it's big enough - offers idle miner alerts (which are AWESOME!) and they have been reliable.

I've used CEX for about the same amount of time and I couldn't get it (CEX) to work with my block eruptors (probably something I was doing).  I like what they have going on but I like bitminter because of the idle miner notifications.

Looking forward to great things happening!  It sounds like there is a lot of work going into this project!

If ANY of these values are different the hash will be different.  Miners routinely attempt the same nonce.  Your own individual miners will attempt the same nonce millions of times.  The nonce is only 32 bit, there are only 4 billion possibilities.  A KNC Jupiter for example will exhaust the nonce range in less than 1/100th of a second.  Even a low end GPU will try all possible nonces (for a given blockheader) in a few seconds.

The "hashMerkleRoot" is a unique hash which represents all the transactions in the block.   If you add, remove, or change ONE transaction in the block you will end up with a different Merkle Root hash.  One of those transactions is the "coinbase" where miners receive their reward.  Even two miners (solo miners, pools, p2pool users) which have the exact same set of other transactions will still have a unique coinbase txs and thus have different Merkle Root hashes.

Different Merkle Root Hash = Different Block Header = Different Hash.

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Block_hashing_algorithm
Given just those fields, people would frequently generate the exact same sequence of hashes as each other and the fastest CPU would almost always win. However, it is (nearly) impossible for two people to have the same Merkle root because the first transaction in your block is a generation "sent" to one of your unique Bitcoin addresses. Since your block is different from everyone else's blocks, you are (nearly) guaranteed to produce different hashes. Every hash you calculate has the same chance of winning as every other hash calculated by the network.

This is starting to make sense - thank you

Where does it start?
by
pacojones
on 11/11/2013, 18:38:16 UTC
I'm not even sure how to ask this question so here goes:

The bitcoin mining network is hashing away and pool X finds a block - question:  once a miner sees that a block is solved, how does it know where to start mining the next block?

Example:
- block found
- network notified
- Miner 1 > starts to brute force the next block by trying 1111, 1112, 1113, 1114
- Miner 2 > starts to brute force the new block by trying HuhHuh
- Miner 3 > starts to brute force the new block by trying HuhHuh
- Miner 4 > starts to brute force the new block by trying HuhHuh
- Miner 5 > starts to brute force the new block by trying HuhHuh

What's to keep all 5 miners from starting at the same starting position and therefore (basically) finding the 'solution' at the same time?  Is there some sort of randomization calculator built into the software so the miners all start at a different point??  I mean if I have 5 miners going myself and they are all trying to solve the same problem and they are all starting at the same start position they would all be doing the same work!

I hope this makes sense - sorry for the crude example!

I've asked via the megabigpower power site as well - any ideas on when the October hardware should be delivered??  I was originally told last week and that's not right, so...Huh  Please point me in the right direction, maybe I missed a post on another thread??..??

I ordered just over three months ago -  #33x

I received a very kind reply from customer service - should have information later (today?) on availability - I'll post an update if I hear anything and would appreciate it if others did the same!

I've been mining with cex.io for about a week and I'm seeing VERY high stale counts for my ghash.io account and very high duplicate counts for my KNC miner.  Overall the performance is what I expected but I'm wondering if there is anything I can/should do about the high stale and duplicate counts??!!

I've been screwed over really bad by the poor predictions made by Butterfly Labs - I didn't feel right passing that on so yes, I'm basically telling people that if the pay what I'm asking, they may lose money - assuming everything continues as it has been for the last 2 weeks.  That said, I'm taking a risk as well and (quite honestly) I'm happy to keep mining with it knowing that I didn't screw some poor sap "newbie" out of his/her hard earned money...  Call me crazy...

I'm actually NOT that interested in selling it unless I can make more than I think I can make mining so offers of less than 25 won't get a response (no offense) and offers of 25 or more will be considered.  An offer of 30 will go immediately.

(sold) WTS KnC Saturn
by

on 20/10/2013, 13:30:26 UTC
I'm looking to sell my Saturn miner for 30 BTC. It is hashing stable at ~250 GH/s.
- Unit is in hand and will ship immediately.
- Shipping to the US ONLY (USPS priority included - overnight UPS or FedEX an option if you pay actual shipping costs)
- Located in the US
- Escrow with https://btcrow.com/‎ (we'll split the costs 50/50)

I'm willing to take best offers, I know that 30 is high but I can get free power and hash with it on my own and I figure it'll make at least 25 so I won't take less than 25.  I have this on an ebay auction for 5 days (but the ebay fees are terrible so I'd rather sell it here) - no sale after 5 days I'll keep it and us it myself.  The unit is working great, very quite, POWER SUPPLY INCLUDED, just power it up and enter your account information.

Re: Butter Bot!: New Bitstamp, BTC-E, and MtGox EMA Trading Platform
by

Hi,

I have a suggestion for the ButterBot developers that I feel would be a great benefit if implemented. It's automatic dynamic optimization, and here's how I envision it working.

The bot would be constantly backtesting in the background, in 1 month increments moving backwards by 1 week at a time, taking snapshots of the pricing curve & testing every possible options setting against that curve to determine the most profitable settings for that given snapshot, or preset of market condition. Then it would move back a week, & do it all over again- over & over.

Eventually the bot would have determined the most profitable settings to use in any given market condition, and could then keep on the lookout for a week's worth of pattern change, and switch the settings to match the most profitable preset for that week's market conditions as if they were going to continue all month.

Viola! Self optimizing bot.

What do people think?

-NginUS

NginUS,
It's an interesting suggestion; we will be looking into it in detail, than you! Smiley

Please let me know if you need anything at all Smiley.

Pablo.

^^^^^^^^^^^^This is a GREAT idea!!  This would make the bot VERY valuable.

Starter Settings Announcement:
*********************************

Please do not hesitate to let me know if you have any questions Smiley.

Pablo.

I missed this by a few days because I did not have this thread in my watch list - my bot traded over the last couple of days using the 'old' settings and I see that these settings would have prevented a loss (sell low and buy high).  Can these type of announcements come out via email as well as posts to the thread?  nothing fancy, just an email saying 'look at this bitcointalk thread for updated settings'

Just a thought, thanks.

And people complain because they are losing money......never ceases to amaze.  If you didn't see this coming, you have no one to blame but yourself. It has been covered extensively for months..(almost a year at this point) that this would happen.

The real kick in the teeth is that people have been waiting for many months (or over a year) for hardware that was promised to have shipped long ago - when it was going to be worth something!  This difficulty rise is just pouring salt in the wounds for many people...

Alas, the ability to print money is relegated to the rich yet again...  go figure.

DWOLLA pulling the plug on BTC

Dear Dwolla Account Holder,

As you know, Dwolla does not sell, accept, mine, value, take possession of, or hold Bitcoin or any other virtual currency product, and none of Dwolla’s users transact business with Dwolla using Bitcoin or any other virtual currency product. However, recent interest involving virtual currency and its exchanges has created uncertainty and confusion around virtual currency, and Dwolla's relationship with a small number of its exchanges. This has forced Dwolla to reassign resources, funds, and services.

As Dwolla gears up for a new stage of growth, we recognize that we can no longer sustain this merchant base (.1 percent of Dwolla merchants) and its unique needs, and that attempting to do so jeopardizes both of our communities' starkly different, but similarly ambitious, vision for improving payments.

Effective October 28, 2013 at 4pm CT, Dwolla will be withdrawing its service offerings to virtual currency exchanges and virtual currency related services.

What does this mean?

Your account, and its functionality, will remain unaffected. However, you can deactivate your account from within your Dwolla dashboard, if you so choose.
Dwolla aims to provide its users and the few affected merchants with the guidance necessary to ensure a smooth transition. To do that, we encourage users to over-communicate with our support team, report any suspicious activity, and revisit our terms of service to ensure uninterrupted services.

What is the timeline of events?

October 10: Only existing users with a 30-day history with Dwolla will be able to send funds to merchants affected by this change.
October 15: Affected merchants will be limited to sending money only, and will no longer be able to receive funds from customers. They will be able to issue refunds to customers at this time.
October 28: Affected merchants’ accounts will be suspended. No further activity will be provided.
October 29: Provided no security or fraud concerns, Dwolla will transfer any of the remaining funds inside the affected merchant's Dwolla account to its linked bank account.

The decision to remove anyone from the network -- no matter the circumstances -- is not something Dwolla takes lightly. We are grateful for the opportunity to service and learn from these users. We wish the community and its pioneers the best.

Sincerely,
Dwolla Support

WELL THAT SUCKS!

Sorry for the newb question, but I believe my address on bitfunder was one I created on my bitcoinqt wallet, does that mean it's one I can sign messages with?

It would be really great if someone could post a quick how-to so that everyone can check that they can do this before the shut-down, otherwise there will likely be many tears.

I am sadly too busy to do this, but am just throwing this out there as an invaluable suggestion...

^^^^^^^^^^^ YES PLEASE ^^^^^^^^^^^^
I just changed my bitfunder payout address to my armory wallet - I was going to use my blockchain.info wallet but wasn't sure about signing those transactions...

I was finally able to get my BTC out of bitfunder last night - I had bought and sold and bought and sold down to less then .1 BTC so I actually had to send more into bitfunder so I could withdraw it all!  Ah well, it was fun while it lasted.  Now it seems like a good time to sit tight and wait for the storm to blow over...  This was a crappy move on the part of bitfunder but I look forward to what labrat come up with to get around this issue!
