You cannot actually do a lot against hackers but there are some precautions you can take. Like you should choose an exchange that has good security measures.

If you are thinking to leave BTC because of manipulation, you will have to leave all crypto. Least manipulation is there in case of BTC in my opinion as there was no such concept when it started.

Even asset can be valuable and it being treated as an asset is also real use in my opinion. I think that crypto is still in early phase and we will see it evolving with time.

This is  common problem in developing countries where people are less aware. Due to greed , they fall for these get rich quick schemes.
