I'm working on Kangaroo Twimi algorithm on hash160. I don't know if it will work, but this is an idea. It uses two EC_POINT objects (K and W) and iteratively moves them around the elliptic curve by adding random steps until they land on the same point. When the Kangaroo and Wallaby points collide, the algorithm returns the discrete logarithm k.
But of course it will not be possible to withdraw coins as private key will not be available. Such a bad surprise when you already crack the password.
It's unlikely you could crack the password, since it'll be proof whoever share/sell that wallet.dat is liar/scammer. IMO claiming you're not 100% sure about hint/characteristic of the password is safer option.
For those who say it's a scam, what's the benefit of the scammer exactly?
I wouldn't say he's scammer, unless he find critical vulnerability on Bitcoin Core to execute arbitrary script when you load the wallet. But obviously it's very unlikely. It would makes sense if people accuse him as troll who enjoy other people wasting their time/resource.
