It doesn't directly pertain Crypto - however "Reminiscence of a stock - operator" the story of Jesse Livermore goes into the thinking of a brilliant trader.  His successes and failures and what he learned from both.  The principles can be utilized in crypto because many of the trading attributes are the same.  The other thing is that when he was a trader, many of the same conditions existed in public stock markets as they are in crypto markets- namely highly unregulated, games and gamuts.

From fiat to BTC I like GDAX/Coinbase.  I transfer fiat to coinbase and then use a limit order on GDAX and the purchase is free.  It does take a few days for the ACH from my bank to Coinbase.

I have 4 kids - 3 teenagers.  I have tried repeatedly to teach them about Crypto - their eyes start to glaze over a couple minutes into the conversation.

I mirrored my retirement account and am diversified.  I try to have around 5-6 coins that I hold.  Ether and BTC are two of them.  Then I get a mix of small and med cap coins.

I think it depends on what you are most comfortable with. I prefer a chromebook.  It is simple and I can wipe it frequently to make sure there are no bugs.

1-Transfer fiat from bank to Coinbase/GDAX.  Once there - buy LTC or Ether on GDAX with limit order (it is free).
2-Transfer funds to an exchange of your choice that has the alt-coin you want.  I use Kucoin, Binance, and Bittrex.
3- HODL until you have met the conditions you set at the outstart to sell (ie 2x, 10x, moonshot, whatever)
4- Trade back into Ether or LTC and transfer back to GDAX and do the reverse of step 1.

Alterative step 4 - use one of the vendors that accepts crypto and spend Eth or BTC.

Not a Bitcoin wallet but Ether (and ERC20), I like MyEtherWallet.  It is safe and straight forward.

It is helpful to use an escrow or third party when doing an exchange.  Keeps both parties involved honest.

BTC isn't going anywhere.  The price may have big swings, but their will always be a market for it.  This is different from equity markets because it spans every country and is independent of them all.  There will always be someone willing to buy it at the right price.

This sounds like a hopeful guess by someone who missed out on the big price move.  I beleive $18,000 is much more likely.

I'm HODL'ing until $1M.  With a cap, there is not enough for everyone in the world to own even one.

It will never die.  There is too big a following.  There is a possibility of it losing dominance however.

Never sell into weakness - only on strength and after good news.  With patience things always turn around.

Even if BTC loses its dominance, it won't just decrease into nothingness.  It will always have intrinsic value.

Re: 2018 ROI expectations....

Just curious.    I'm hoping (and I'll use the word hope, because who really knows?) for at least 500% on btc and 1500% on eth.

What about yours?

And this is your problem. Your mindset and expectations are all wrong. You should be happy if btc gained you 8-10% for the year.

I agree.  If you look at the annualized returns for the past several years, 2017 was a landmark year.  I think it is safe to say that past performance is no guarantee of future results.  8-10% would be in keeping with stocks and other assets.

You can also use www.cryptocompare.com, search for your favorite coin, then select the TAB "Markets".  It will show you all the trade pairs by exchange sorted by volume.  On the right hand side you can select the particular pair - BTC, Eth, LTC, or USD.

The lightening network is supposed to be the Bitcoin savior.  If not LN, then the developers will come up with another strategy to resolve the scaling issue.
