Thought leaders from Wall Street will discuss the new frameworks they're developing to understand Bitcoin, the potential value of the crypto currency, and the global impact they're telling clients that Bitcoin could have across the global financial, technological, and consumer landscape.

Lou Kerner (Moderator) - Founder and Analyst, The Social Internet Fund
Gil Luria - Managing Director, Wedbush Securities
George Samman - COO, BTC.sx

Oh really? So if you mention Apple, your post gets censored here? Real logical.

I am posting a new 2 hour q&a with Andrea on youtube/my podcast feed in minutes if anyone cares. Andreas visited my studio last week, and we took calls and questions from reddit. God knows the thread I make about it here will be deleted or edited.

Oh, don't feel bad. This community has a rich history of ridiculing and abusing newcomers. It doesn't matter if you're 45 years old with three advanced degrees when you come here. Once you register at this forum you're an infant again and will be treated as such.

It sucks. I'm just trying to provide the community with resources.

Can someone please explain why you've stripped out my links and it's ok to make another thread where someone else links to the video that I produced and posted? I'm lost with the rules here. I posted a T-Shirt contest where I'm giving away 1BTC and someone moved it to "Gambling".

I want to be a part of this community and to keep bringing content here but it's frustrating to keep getting slapped on the hand and then having moderation imposed on me without it being explained at all.

Re: So BIP-38 Encrypted Paper Wallet = Most Secure?
by

A brain wallet and an encrypted paper wallet have the same problem. If you die and no one knows your password, the BTC are lost forever. Unencrypted wallets stored securely in your home are adequate for 99% of people. We're usually pretty good at securing things physically.

I used BIP38 when I made paper wallets, but this talk by Alan Reiner has me reconsidering. The argument is that we're pretty good with physical security and don't need to encrypt in most cases. This will also make it easy if anything were to happen to you for your family or friends to be able to access the BTC on the paper wallets, versus it being lost forever to a password in your mind.

(Full disclosure - I published this video, but it's still a great talk for all users of BTC)

I'd like to learn the posting rules here, and apologize if this was posted in the wrong subforum.

Can someone please explain why this was moved to gambling? This has nothing to do with gambling at all.

Bitcoin T-Shirt Design Contest - 1 BTC PRIZE!
by
pmelt
on 06/01/2014, 00:51:29 UTC
The Coinsider This! podcast is running a Bitcoin t-shirt design contest. This contest will end January 9, 2014.

--------------

WHAT?

Coinsider This! is looking for a striking t-shirt design for our official Bitcoin t-shirts! This design could be something abstract and wild, or something clean and precise – it’s up to you. The goal is to print a shirt that people will enjoy wearing, and that will engage others who see it, offering opportunities to spread the word about Bitcoin and how it works. This shirt should be a conversation starter as well as a banner of support for Bitcoin.

FOR THE WINNER

The winner of this contest will receive a stunning, pure silver Recalescence Coin loaded with 1 BTC. These coins are the highest quality physical Bitcoins you can buy, made of one Troy ounce of .999 pure silver. The back of the coin features a tamper-proof hologram seal that can be peeled by the owner to reveal a private key. That private key can be imported in to a wallet, giving the owner access to the Bitcoin pre-loaded to the address by Recalescence Coins.

To learn more about these beautiful symbols of what Bitcoin stands for, check out www.recalescencecoins.com!

All the details, guidelines and more can be found at www.coinsiderthis.com/contest - good luck!

Alan Reiner of Armory - Best Practices for Using and Securing Bitcoin
by
pmelt
on 06/01/2014, 00:43:13 UTC
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qd9C9TQ3pWY

Recorded December 10, 2013 at the Inside Bitcoins conference in Las Vegas.

Alan Reiner, CEO of Armory Technologies, will give a layman's introduction to how Bitcoin works, and then discuss best practices that every Bitcoin user should know to safely use and manage bitcoins. He will describe why Bitcoin is different than other payment systems, how the network reaches agreement on transactions, how to backup your wallets, and how to use addresses to maximize privacy. The concept behind ʺCold Storageʺ will also be explained with information for new users to get started using it. The presentation will also touch on developing technologies in the Bitcoin community, including hardware wallets and multi-device authentication.

Re: Drafting the first comedian--Josh Blue--to accept bitcoins.
by
pmelt
on 24/12/2013, 15:39:46 UTC
I'm not sure the point. Are you trying to get him to accept bitcoins for work, merchandise, or just beg for donations on stage? I don't see him mentioning anything about Bitcoins and you're statement is kind of unclear. Do you know him? Is he just a comic you like and you're floating an idea?

"What if he refused to go on until there was an uptick (donation)?"

It would be the worst comedy show of all time. There is absolutely no point in shoe-horning Bitcoin in to places it doesn't practically fit for no reason.

As an eleven year professional comedian, who has talked about Bitcoin on stage for months, I can tell you that having a ticker on stage and holding up a show for Bitcoin donations makes no sense and would be horribly boring and pointless.

Also, as an aside, I announced on my Bitcoin podcast in August that I'd accept Bitcoin for my merchandise and performances in the future. I'll be headlining in San Antonio at the River Center Comedy Club the first week in January. Come buy a CD or t-shirt after my show with BTC! www.pmelt.com

Hey guys. I'm the host of this podcast. Thanks for sharing it here. I don't really post here, but I will probably start doing it more.

I will be posting more talks from the conference, and as a matter of fact I just posted the final panel of the conference, which is pretty good.

Subscribe to the podcast on iTunes or YouTube if you like my stuff, and feel free to spread it around. I am just another fan of Bitcoin, but as long as people keep supporting my show I plan to travel to more of these conferences and bring more of these talks to people who can't go themselves.

Moving Bitcoin Forward - Bringing Trust, Legitimacy, and Transparency to the Market

Even as bitcoin continues to play a larger role in mainstream culture, plenty of skepticism remains. Going forward, what are the challenges facing the bitcoin community as it attempts to bring trust, transparency and legitimacy to the burgeoning bitcoin market? This panel will discuss the challenges of bitcoin adoption.

This is what someone explained to me, from a math perspective:

If 137 Billion people generated 137 Billion addresses per year for 137 Billion years, there would still be only a 1 in 35 Billion chance that ANY of them were the same.

Regardless if those numbers are true (someone smarter than me can tell us), for all intents and purposes, the odds are really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really small. Really.

I'm sure if we hand over Bitcoin to banking regulators, they'll get it right this time.
