Re: Antminer S9 dead hash board repair needed

I'm in UK and have two dead boards in my Antminer S9, I'm thinking about buying a hot-air surface-mount rework station at about £1,000 just to change the easily obtainable power components in the hope that it's not the circuitry under the security glue that's faulty. If you have several more bad S9 boards and I can break a couple of them perfecting the fix process then PM me.

Not quite sure we're talking about the same kit though as you say 550 MHz and mine are about 4 THash per board.

Is the "STOP MINING" thing that Kano found in antminer's code a while ago the same thing that they are now calling antbleed vulnerability?

I know it sounds simplistic...but there appear to be two camps on the issue...as with all BTC things, it seems...those who are in Bitcoin to make a fast profit, and those who are in Bitcoin for the long haul.  Kiss

EDIT: Gotta remember to have coffee first...what I meant was these two views should not necessarily be opposing, but often end up that way for lack of wider vision. I happen to agree with Kano on BIP101, and for the same reasons.

Mine on.

Miners want big fat blocks, traders want low fees; can't see that ever changing. We want traders to keep trading and they want us to keep mining though or the whole thing dies, even an ID10T like me knows that. Kano-san's small miners are on both sides of the fence as we have to consolidate our small payouts into some useful mount (just got 1 sat/B because the mempool's virtually empty)

I need coffee too, the coffee shop takes Bitcoin and as a favour to me he'll let me have mine after 2 confirmations instead of having to wait for 100 Wink

Same here...looking pretty decent with almost 30TH, a day more for 5Nd. When we get these last two A6s back online (my partner finally got his wife to allow them...and they've got free power...lol...) with a coloc, we should be at around 37TH. What I'm pleased with is that the Avalon gear hashes consistently at more than expected with no issues.

also note that pps%  is 101 for Jan and 116 for Feb

One good thing about a 5 day n is positive variance can be very big.

Surely that's the same as saying "One bad thing about a 5 day n is the negative variance can be very big" isn't it?

If Bitmain is cheating S9 owners, the new T9 is even more suspect. It has less hashing power with higher power consumption.  Huh
That is because ASIC chips are less but as a bonus are overclocked Wink
My personal feeling is that this shit will start to explode very very soon Grin

Not necessarily overclocked at least in the normal use of the term. They may have been individually testing each one to find its maximum speed before it starts throwing errors just like Intel and AMD test their CPUs. Once they have enough chips in the fastest speed bin they can make the new model using them. You wouldn't refer to an i7-3.6GHz as overclocked and an i7-2.9GHz as underclocked if that was the speed on the box when you bought them.

eBay it is, I'd hang onto it for a few days in case it snows this week.

... It's just there are bad business people not treating their equipment right that make it seem that there is a high failure rate.
AKA hobbyists  Wink

I tripped over the power cable to one of the PSUs running my S9 and it spiked the mains and now that hash board doesn't power up. PSU is still good so I suspect the regulator has died but it's too cold to take it apart because two S7s aren't enough to keep my flat warm.

Is that what you mean by hobbyist? Wink

Is there anyway Kano could include a tx in the next block? I'm trying to consolidate some payouts and I've put a few on there but obviously too low.

Can't understand why there isn't a FAQ on how to consolidate or why the pool can't just save the mBTC up for us and then pay us per month or per week. I like CKpool for the banter and also for Kano throwing the extra 1BTC in the shared pay packet now and then but multiple tiny payments aren't easy to deal with. I/ve worked in several jobs that pay per-hour rather than per-week or per-month but you still don't have to go to your boss and ask for payment every hour and end up going home at the end of the day with a sack full of tiny coins.

He [your daytime boss] saves the tiny payments up in his own wallet and gives you in big notes at the end of the week if you're a casual worker, why doesn't CKpool offer this?

Interesting. I mine here because it's transparent, openly managed, and for all appearances over an extended period of time, honest. I don't give a rusty duck about a fancy GUI; I want to see hard numbers and open structure, and that's out front here and not buried. I'm reasonably confident that bad luck is simply that.

I've been doing this for several years. I came here last year. I'm not going anywhere.

Mine on.
I agree, a fancy GUI isn't important to me either, Although a bit more condensed homepage would be nice.
I'm just passing on what some of my friends have said, which means others feel it to.

Everyone who has done website design etc. Knows that info on a site isn't what pulls everyone in, look layout and feel are a big part, Even if it's irrelevant to the purpose.

Bitminter's got a good website layout and they've lost most of their hash power over the last 2 months.

Mr Banks,

The information you provide on Kano is irrelevant to this thread which is about CKPool rather than Kano himself. Can't you start a separate thread where you and Kano can discuss your differences rather than use this one? I came here to ask about consolidating the multiple tiny payments this pool sends us rather than letting us leave our coin in the pool until it becomes a useful sum but you have sidetracked that so I get no useful answers.

Oh, and please desist from utilizing sesquipedalians, it makes you sound like a Grauniad journalist.

The only incentive that will draw miners back is some green blocks.

Although it is ultimately down to luck there may be some tweaks such as difficulty setting that could affect the odds. I'm no expert but I think it may affect the pool's total results if we all picked the "Easy Mode" perk or alternatively if we all ticked the (non-existent) "hard-mode" perk. Maybe we should even stoop low enough to mine empty blocks to give the pool a few seconds head start over the others on each new block. At the moment I feel that odds are against us like playing roulette on a table that has a double-zero as well as the normal one. There may even be some mining rigs that are luckier than others, I wouldn't put it past the manufacturers to add a "withhold block if you're not using their pool" algorithm although I expect someone's checked through the code to ensure that's not true.

Sorry about the rant Doc but it can't be just bad luck for 3 months solid.

Hard to say whether this is good or bad, on the one hand we have miners complaining that their transactions won't go through but on the other hand we have miners shouting "yippee" because a block was paid 13.6 BTC rather than the 12.5 BTC that you get for an empty block. I'm not even sure that it's spam, could be Coinbase users moving their stashes out of the clutches of US government.

May we live in interesting times.

I will not confirm or deny  that .

I will confirm that paypal was politely denied. So I asked about BTC or CC for payment.

I do suggest that if you want to buy an Avalon 721  with BTC or CC you could ask politely as being nice can not hurt.

So far it (the btc payment of 2.74 )  is stuck and i am annoyed that some A--- hole decided to spam the blockchain.
I have had a similar experience re ordering, and I second your recommendation, Phil...other than getting the tx stuck, of course...

Being nice NEVER hurts.  Kiss

EDIT: ...and now I know why that transaction got stuck. My partner's core went offline just before the spam attack. When he came back on, the jam was happening. Crap.

I hope it wasn't me playing about with my wallet settings trying to consolidate these individual mBTC for free that spammed the network. I can't find a way to cancel the requests using Electrum but I don't think I did that many anyway.

What 1% are you guys are talking about?
I typically pay about 0.15-0.2% to consolidate. First confimation is typically in less than an hour, two hour max.
You just don't use the default settings.

Kudos. That's why I'm a newbie and you're legendary Grin

LOL, pay just 15 sat/226 bytes (4-5 times less than usual); it works on tx with many inputs OR kano's pool will confirm his own inputs.

I too do not understand this. I assume you are talking about using a trade exchange (tx) instead of a wallet like coinbase? So coinbase might take 1% to consolidate (or when you move to cold storage/buy something with these BTC) because the transactions are so small (by design small BTC transactions have a higher fee percentage to prevent spam). But you are suggesting sending these smaller payouts to an exchange and then consolidate them before sending these to cold storage?

I believe the trick is to include one large sum with all the little sums and send to yourself but I'm using Electrum wallet and even at the slowest/cheapest setting it wants over 1mBTC for the transaction. Think I'll have to download bitcoin core and manually set the servers that process the tansaction. Hopefully someone will tell me what to set them to.

I check this site almost every day for progress. The CDF appears to be going in the wrong direction.  Undecided

Yes, I noticed that too. It was on 99.95 and now on 99.93 but the difficulty went up so CDF is recalculated against the new difficulty.
