Re: [2014-01-03] Alpha Technology Takes Pre-Orders for Litecoin ASIC Miners

There is a solution...

- IP address / IP range hashrate cap - this will prevent everybody from creating big farms, just make a cap of share to every IP address and another cap for IP ranges to prevent from Multi-IP addressing.

This will solve the biggest problems:

- it will not consume so much electricity
- it will be more fair play
- it will prevent biggest farmers from affecting the market, 51 percent attack possibility and centralization

An example, make a limit to a single Ipv4 address, another limit to /24 IP address range, another to /20 range etc. The same for IPv6 ranges. E.G. 2 Mhash limit to one Ipv4 address, 6 Mhashes to the whole range, and so done.

Yeah there are a ton of workarounds for this that the common user can do, let alone some company with whale farms.

Re: [2014-01-03] Alpha Technology Takes Pre-Orders for Litecoin ASIC Miners

Litecoin is meant to be ASIC resistant, which it is.  That doesn't mean it resists the creation of asics...that's impossible.  Application specific integrated chip by definition is just a computer chip meant for a specific task.  My calculator is an ASIC...it's not a phone, but it's still an asic for solving math problems.  Litecoin is ASIC resistant meaning the effect of ASIC do not drive all the computing power to those who can afford it.  When GPU mining hit Litecoin it was no where near what it was with Bitcoin.

All this means nothing because both coins are in danger of the same fate...centralized mining.  Somehow every device on the network needs to be forced to mine, from a cell phone to a super computer...this is the only way to end centralizing.

never trust a popup

Right.

My point though is that a hacker apparently used the real version of the latest flash to take over my computer and nothing was detected by Comodo full version, malwarebytes, spybot, Norton, etc. The pop up is not the problem. Flash is the problem.

As of about 2 minutes ago the pop up has improved a bit more and now doesn't show the promo link but simply directs you to flash.

I have no adobe products whatsoever on this computer right now.

If I had been on the internet on a page with flash and got a pop up to update the flash, and was then directed to the real adobe site, I would get bitten.

If you really are running comodo/malwarebytes/spybot and Norton...there is a very good chance you have zero protection.  AVs fight eachother and prevent eachother from doing many basic tasks.  Uninstall Norton and spybot.  Malwarebytes isn't technically an AV, so you are fine there, but make sure that Comodo plays nice with it.

And to think, someday people will look back at Bitcoin, like they do Napster, Myspace, Yahoo and think, "Why oh why didn't I buy just a few Litecoin?"

My primary source of income at the moment is government money, and I don't spend much, so all I can think is "sweet, cheap Bitcoin".

I like that, Government money.  This is going to be rude, but has it ever occurred to you that that is my money, not magical government money?

Reality,

Boycotting won't stop them.  We need to put our thinking caps on, as Adam said, and figure out a better solution.  It seems the dark wallet and mixes is the best option.  If we figure out now what will fix the problem, we can popularize it while the coin is still young.

I was going to bounty but I currently only hold Litecoin while the BTC deflates =/

You've been very helpful and although you may monetize such a list or task, We are only trying to grow the community and appreciate the help you have given.

While I still have your seemingly omnescent attention <3, Is there a list anywhere of all the Merchants who accept BTC aside from the wiki?  I've read there are over 12k, and that list contains a little over 1200.

Thanks again.

Oh and I appreciated the benign retort from the gentleman above you =]

Honestly,

We don't want a token from them in return, all we need is a success or failure code to know it's a valid user/pass combo.  Would gladly be willing to meet with and sign an agreement with whoever is in charge of Bitcoin forum.

Any information on who I could contact would be greatly appreciated as well.

Thank you again.

You might consider limiting this to individual option.
For example, having messages signed by the address used in their profile or something like that.  Single Sign-on and shared userid is not an advantage to security.  Generally it is the opposite of that.

The only thing we are looking for is integration.  Meaning when users sign into our site, it will sign them into bitcointalk.org.  Our end will have nothing to do with it.  Security will not change.  It works just like the FB integration that you find in most forums/websites no a days.

In other words, a user on our site would click "Comment" and a box would pop up and say, "Would you like to log in using your bitcointalk.org ID ?"

I think I understand you correctly.

Bitcoin Project

Our team has been working on a project for a while and we would like to integrate with the bitcoin forum as far as usernames are concerned.  Who would I need to talk to about integration of api?  The only thing we want is for everyone to be able to keep their well known, forum usernames.  We don't want to risk that when we launch our new company and site, that people can take a well known forum username.  We are big believers of integration, making things easier for Bitcoin users to use other platforms are very important.  Imagine being able to go to any large Bitcoin platform and being able to simply use your same login/password everywhere.

Please point me in the right direction, our programmers are eagerly awaiting this information.

Thank you,
-Adam

Rev 13:17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

My friends and I actually had a discussion about how Bitcoin could cause this to happen, but BTC wouldn't be the  mark, but rather the government would create it to fight BTC.

If everyone started using BTC and therefor no longer had to pay taxes or even created a tax problem because it's impossible for the government to find out what you owe, they could then say, Hey you can only buy with USD or go to jail.  This in essence would fulfill the prophecy.

Re: [ANN] Cryptorig.com Custom GPU Mining Rigs
by

The info for mining rigs is free and available in every forum I have ever been in.  I can't imagine why anyone would pay for a rig when 99% of the fun is building it.  Mining is a hobby, otherwise just use the money you would buy the rig with and buy coins instead.
