Re: Official FutureBit Apollo BTC Software/Image and Support thread

Hi guys,

Given the limited hard drive for the node that comes inside the Futurebit Apollo BTC, I am thinking of increasing the hard drive; I think that keeping nodes running indefinitely is important because if each of us did this, it would keep the network strong and decentralized, but I am not sure exactly how to approach it. Can I simply attach an external SDD drive to it via its USB ports, or must I figure out how to install a larger internal hard drive?

Thanks!

If you have a "Batch 3" unit, the 1TB SSD is currently less than half full, so it's good for a quite some time.

If you have an older unit with the (now) nearly full 500GB SSD, just buy a 1TB NVMe SSD, shut down and power off, replace the 500GB SSD (it's obvious when you turn the unit over), and fire it all up again. It will take a couple days to sync again of course.

Thank you!

Does anyone know if I can daisy chain powered usb hubs to mine with Gekkoscience Newpacs? My laptop doesn’t have enough USB ports; so I was wondering whether my 3rd powered hub could be connected to the 2nd via usb and still work? Or would that damage the miners?

It is all spelled out in the Compaq-F support thread

Direct locations:
The master git for cgminer is https://github.com/kanoi/cgminer

CGMiner README https://github.com/kanoi/cgminer/blob/master/README

That includes linux compile steps, but to repeat, on linux:
Code:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade -y

sudo apt-get install -y build-essential autoconf automake libtool pkg-config libcurl4-openssl-dev libudev-dev libusb-1.0-0-dev libncurses5-dev zlib1g-dev git

cd
git clone https://github.com/kanoi/cgminer.git
cd cgminer

CFLAGS="-O2 -march=native" ./autogen.sh --enable-gekko --enable-icarus

make

CGMiner Windows 10 32bit binary
https://kano.is/cgminer.zip
It will probably work on older windows, but I'm only testing it on Windows 10

The instructions to compile it yourself on Windows 10 are here:
https://github.com/kanoi/cgminer/blob/master/windows-build.txt

As with all USB miners on Windows, you must install Zadig and setup the miner.
This is documented in the CGMiner README https://github.com/kanoi/cgminer/blob/master/README

Thanks for the info! This isn’t the easiest site to navigate, I guess I must’ve missed that thread.

All of Sidehack's sticks & pods can be ran off of a single instance of cgminer. The latest 4.12 version done by Kano is needed for the Compaq-F's as the earlier versions done by vh does not have the driver for the F's.

Thanks!

So, I’ve just searched GitHub and I can’t find 4.12 but maybe I missed it? Would you mind sharing a link if you know where I can get it for windows 10?

Hi guys,

I’ve just ordered 3 GekkoScience Compac F sticks, and I was hoping that someone would be able to answer this question for me:

Can I run them together with my R606 and my Newpacs using CGMiner, or must I use some other program? In case it matters, I?m using a windows 10 laptop as the head for my miners.

Thanks in advance!

Hi guys,

Sorry to bother you all again, but my cable arrived (thanks for the info!) and I’ve got my R606 running on CGMiner now, but I’m seeing some readout info that I don’t understand, and I was hoping someone could enlighten me!

First thing is:

I’m seeing 0: GSI 0 - R606 Bitcoin Miner (10040525) in between the ‘accepted…’ share messages that scroll down the screen;

Second thing is:

I’ve got the R606 USB directly plugged into my computer in case that matters, I’ve got the appropriate power supply, and I’m running it at setting 3, 420 mV. But the WU seems to fluctuate… it’s reading “75.1% WU: ^68%” but it fluctuates up to 100% on both counts sometimes. Is there something wrong with it, or is that normal given the power setting?

Right now it’s putting out 500 Gh/s but again, that fluctuates.

Do you guys think it’s okay? Also, what does 75.1% WU: ^68% mean?

Thanks again guys!

https://i.ibb.co/pzhsNVQ/image.png

here is a screenshot of my cgminer (this is for 4 R606's)

that first line you asking about is from below right? I see those occasionally and for each of my R606's - not sure what they mean. As for your other question, the WU changes on mine as well for example in the screenshot above my first miner shows WU as 70.6 and as I now write this it shows 98% - I believe this references how the hash rate compares to the target. When the hash rate increases so will the WU.

maybe some others can chime in as well.

Thanks a lot for the clarification. Sounds like everything is fine then! My Newpaks also fluctuate, but less, and they’re the only miners I’ve had until this point. I’ve ordered a Futurebit Apollo BTC, super excited about running my own node and getting a better miner! I’m pointing all my Gekkoscience gear at CKPool… something about the (remote) possibility of mining a block gives me hope every day. But the Apollo will probably be pool mining. If only I had a bigger place, I’d fill it with these things! Anyways, thanks again.

Yeah it's like the old PS3 controller connection as you can see in the pic above on the right,
it's not a micro-usb or usb-c like on android phones.

Thank you!

Hi guys,

I’ve just bought a used R606 Terminus on eBay, but it didn’t come with any cords. I’ve sourced a power adapter, but I can’t seem to figure out which type of USB cord the device needs to connect to my computer. Does anyone know what type it is? I’d really appreciate the help!

Howdy folks,

I'm running a few Gekkoscience Newpacs on CGMiner for the fun of it, and to see if I can hit the lotto! I do have a quick question in case anyone happens to know...

What does CGMiner display (if anything) if I were to miraculously mine a block?

Also, would my 'best share' need to be 13.7T or something like that in order to successfully mine a block? My best share to date is something like 54 million! lol...

BTW, if you read this, thank you CK for making this solo mining pool, and for CGMiner. I really appreciate it.

Yep, your best share would have to be over 13.7T (right now.) I know Cgminer also used to say "Block!!!" if it found one, but I'm not sure if it still has that. (That was a long time.)

Thanks, I appreciate it!

⭐ Merited by Bitcoin-Eco (1) ,decodx (1)
I’m generally very supportive of all crypto projects as I believe in a more decentralized society. As a person who loves and believes in the democratizing power of BTC, I regret to say that I am not a fan of this particular project. For what it’s worth, I’m not going to impugne the motives of the project’s developer, but there are two main reasons that I’m not going to take part in this one:

1) The idea that burning 1BTC in exchange for 1 unit of this new coin holds a reasonable value proposition is lunacy on its face; and,

2) I genuinely believe that this is a solution in search of a non existent problem. BTC does not need to be replaced (obviously I don’t believe that this project could ever achieve that even if the need existed). The anti crypto / pro CBDC demagogues already erroneously cite environmental concerns as a reason to oppose crypto, and we don’t need that sort of rubbish from inside the community. Crypto, and BTC specifically, are not a threat to the environment. If people are concerned about the pollution generated by the generation of electricity, then by all means, go invent a functional and economical renewable energy source. Don’t blame BTC. As a miner, if I could operate near a hydroelectric source, or use some other renewable source of energy, I would; it would increase the profitability of my machines! The incentive already exists.

Let’s not pretend that BTC mining is a serious power consumer compared to other industries either please. The entirety of the BTC mining industry’s power consumption is a veritable drop in the ocean, never mind the proverbial bucket. As I said, solution in search of a problem.

Re: Self-Proclaimed Satoshi Arrested Over Bitcoin Fraud

For a second I thought they caught Craig, lol.

I’m new here. First comment.

It was also Craig Wright who came to my mind first when I saw the title of this thread. But it wasn't, and it was a smaller faketoshi who was arrested. Why can't the wealthy faketoshi, CSW, be brought to justice and get arrested over his own worse version of fraud? The man is wreaking havoc within the crypto community and yet when he goes to court over something clearly foolish and baseless, he's given undue respect.

Yes, he came to mind for me as well. To answer your question, though it was not directed at me, I think that wealthy faketoshi hasn’t been arrested precisely because he is causing chaos - I believe that the system wants (in so far as it wants things) to destroy crypto generally. Wealthy faketoshi is a boon to the system; a wealthy fraud who is sufficiently arrogant and unscrupulous to use litigation/the judicial system (the system’s enforcement arm) to try to perpetrate his fraud upon the community and destabilize the fabric of crypto.

Lucky for us, the system is run by morons (when it comes to tech) and it’s dictates are enforced by jackbooted morons who are so dedicated to the fallacy of sunk costs that they’ll defend the system at all costs. Crypto is the new revolution. It’s the internet but much bigger and much more alien to the system. They don’t understand it, and they’re right to fear it.

As for faketoshis everywhere, nobody should take them seriously. They’re the fame-wh*res of the crypto sphere. They’ll come and go just like the losers who the system parades before us all day and night on the news. Fake, substance-less, and ultimately irrelevant (only relevant to the sycophants of the system - the drones to the sunk costs fallacy).
